Genetic Diversity of Pandanus from West Java based on ISSR Markers

Abstract: Genetic Diversity of Pandanus from West Java based on ISSR Markers. The genetic diversity of 10 species ofPandanus from West Java was examined using inter simple sequence repeat (ISSR) technique. Samples were collectedfrom different localities in West Java. Two primers (ISSR2 and ISSR7) were selected as reliable amplifying ISSRmarkers. The two primers amplified 19 band position, with amplification size ranged from 200 to 1500 bp. Geneticdistance for samples ranged from 0.267 to 0.957. Genetic distance was high (0.957) between P. pseudolais and P.spinistigmaticus, and between P. kurzii and P. pseudolais, where as genetic distance was low (0.267) between P.scabrifolius and P. bidur.

Abstract: This study aimed to compare the acute effect of different fast food types on appetite regulatory hormones. This was a randomized, cross over design study. After ten-hour fasting, sixteen obese participants (Body Mass Index 33.6 ± 4.8 kg/m2) received Indonesia Fast Food (IFF) followed Western Fast Food (WFF) after 1 week wash out. Both of fast foods have similar energy content but higher fat content on WFF vs IFF. Plasma ghrelin, Peptide YY (PYY) and Cholecystokinin (CCK) were measured at 30, 60 and 120 minutes after ingestions. The investigation revealed that the change of plasma ghrelin level was lower on participant consuming WFF in 120 minutes vs IFF (P < 0.05). The change of plasma PYY showed significantly higher among participant on 60 minutes following WFF vs IFF (P < 0.05). The change of plasma CCK level is lower in 30, 60 and 120 minutes after consuming WFF vs IFF (all, P < 0.001). The appetite response regarding “desire to eat” was higher after consuming IFF vs WFF. This study suggested that IFF induced feeling “want to eat” higher than WFF also induced the increasing orexigenic hormone, ghrelin, but the effects on the anorexigenic hormone (PYY) and CCK were opposite.

Abstract: Background: Standart evaluation and quality control exlpain that nursery services guarantee a high quality of nursing by involving themselves into quality control in the hospital. Job satisfaction must be created goodly, in order to job morality, disciplined, dedication and job performance can be increased. The employee can work produce or not was depent on motivation, job satisfaction, the level of stress, phisicly condition of job, salary, project of work, aspeck of economy and technics. The aim of this reseach was to know correlation job satisfaction and job performance. Methods: The study was analytic quantitative with cross sectional method. Data were analyzed quantitatively with Product Moment correlation analyze. The population was all of nurse (110 persons) in the nursery room services at the Klaten Islamic Hospital. The tool of the study was questionaire toward 52 respondents. Sample taken by proportional random sampling. Result: The result of the study showed that job satisfaction of nurses was on the moderate level reached (63,5%). Job performance of nurses was on the good level reache (78,8%). There were positive correlation between job satisfaction and job performance, with correlation coefficien r = 0,393 (on the low level); with p=0,004. Conclusion: There were positive correlation between job satisfaction and job performance of nurses. Key words: Job satisfaction, job performance, nurse.

Abstract: Background : Family planning program is a program intended to help couples and individualsachieve their reproductive goals. The low participation of men in family planning can have negativeimpact on women's reproductive health because of not only women are always actively involved, sowomen emancipation who demanded equality of rights between men and women becomes a reality.The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between the characteristics of the husbandwith the participation of husbands become acceptors of family planning in the Village areaKarangduwur Petanahan Kebumen district of Central Java. Methods : This was a observasional analytic research using cross sectional research design in thisstudy were all husbands of childbearing age (EFA) in the Village Karangduwur Petanahan Kebumendistrict of Central Java. The number of samples taken in this study is 85 people. Data analysis wasperformed univariate and bivariate. Result : Result of hypothesis test showed that husband characteristic in terms of revenue associatedwith the participation of husbands in family planning as indicated by the value of Chi Square = 7.743(p = 0.005 <0.05), husband characteristic in terms of knowledge is not related to the participation ofhusbands in family planning as indicated by the value Chi Square = 0.022 (p = 0.882> 0.05), characteristic husband in terms of education is not related to the participation of husbands in family planning as indicated by the value of Chi Square = 2.292 (p = 0.130> 0.05), husband characteristic in terms of number of children associated with the participation of husbands in family planning as indicated by the value of Chi Square = 10.916 (p = 0.01<0,05). Conclusion : From four independent variables studied there was a significant correlation factors there are income, and number of children, or parity, and there was no significant correlation: education and knowledge. Zooplankton communities in the Krenceng Reservoair, Cilegon, Banten

Abstract: This research was carried out to know the structure of zooplankton communities and relations between the phytoplankton and zooplankton in the Krenceng Reservoair, Cilegon. The zooplankton abundance with used Sedwigck Rafter Counting Method, diversity and evenness were counted. Relations between zooplankton and the environmental factors as well as its relations to phytoplankton calculated with regression. The results showed that are 13 species of the zooplankton found which including in three classes with the highest abundance on Novembers 2002 and March 2003 of the Rotifera. The analysis of regression pointed out that the environmental factors such: pH, BOD5, nitrate, CO2 and abundance of phytoplankton influence the abundance zooplankton in November. While in March, the abundance of zooplankton is influenced by brigthtness, nitrate, orthophosphates and C organic. The abundance of phytoplankton influenced positively by the abundance of zooplankton.
Synthesis of Hydroxyl Radical Scavengers from Benzalacetone and its Derivatives

Abstract: Synthesis of hydroxyl radical scavengers from benzalacetone and its derivatives has been done. Benzalacetone synthesis was done by crossed aldol condensation between benzaldehyde and acetone with 1:1 mol ratio, while dibenzalacetone in 2:1 mol ratio. Benzalacetone derivatives were synthesized by replacing benzaldehyde with its derivatives, i.e. p-anisaldehyde, veratraldehyde and cinnamaldehyde. The compounds that were active as radical scavengers based on the IC50 value from the highest level were: dibenzalacetone, veratralacetone, dicinnamalacetone, diveratralacetone and anisalacetone.
Influence of Silica/Sulfonated Polyether-Ether Ketone as Polymer Electrolyte Membrane for Hydrogen Fueled Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells

Abstract: The operation of non-humidified condition of proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) using composite sPEEK-silica membrane is reported. Sulfonated membrane of PEEK is known as hydrocarbon polyelectrolyte membrane for PEMFC and direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC). The state of the art of fuel cells is based on the perluorosulfonic acid membrane (Nafion). Nafion has been the most used in both PEMFC and DMFC due to good performance although in low humidified condition showed poor current density. Here we reported the effect of silica in hydrocarbon sPEEK membrane that contributes for a better water management system inside the cell, and showed 0.16 W/cm2 of power density which is 78% higher than that of non-silica modified [Keywords: composite membrane, polyether-ether ketone, silica, proton exchange membrane fuel cell].
Archaeal Life on Tangkuban Perahu- Sampling and Culture Growth in Indonesian Laboratories

Abstract: The aim of the expedition to Tangkuban Perahu, West Java was to obtain archaeal samples from the solfatara fields located in Domas crater. This was one of the places, where scientists from the University of Regensburg Germany had formerly isolated Indonesian archaea, especially Thermoplasma and Sulfolobus species but not fully characterized. We collected five samples from mud holes with temperatures from 57 to 88 oC and pH of 1.5-2. A portion of each sample was grown at the University of Regensburg in modified Allen’s medium at 80 oC. From four out of five samples enrichment cultures were obtained, autotrophically on elemental sulphur and heterotrophically on sulfur and yeast extract; electron micrographs are presented. In the laboratories of Universitas Indonesia the isolates were cultured at 55-60 oC in order to grow tetraetherlipid synthesizing archaea, both Thermoplasmatales and Sulfolobales. Here, we succeeded to culture the same type of archaeal cells, which had been cultured in Regensburg, probably a Sulfolobus species and in Freundt’s medium, Thermoplasma species. The harvested cells are documented by phase contrast microscope equipped with a digital camera. Our next steps will be to further characterize genetically the cultured cells from Tangkuban Perahu isolates.
Enzymatic Synthesis of Sucrose Polyester as Food Emulsifier Compound

Abstract: Sucrose polyester (SPE) is a carbohydrate ester compound that has diverse functions, from surfactant to low-calorie food products. Sucrose fatty acid ester with the degree of substitution 1-3 can be used as emulsifier in foods and cosmetics. The enzymatic synthesis of sucrose polyesters can be carried out using lipase in organic solvent and contain small amount of water. In these studies sucrose esters were synthesized by esterification reaction between sucrose with fatty acids from coconut and palm oil using Candida rugosa lipase in n-hexane. Optimization esterification reaction carried out for parameters of incubation time, temperature, and the ratio of the substrate. The optimum incubation time is at 18 hours for coconut oil and 12 hours palm oil, the optimum temperature is 30 oC for coconut and palm oil, and the mole ratio of fatty acid to sucrose is 40:1 for coconut oil and 64:1 for palm oil. Esterification products were characterized by FT-IR. The FT-IR spectrum showed the ester bond was formed as indicated by the wave number 1739.79/cm. Esterification products have 2 substitution degrees.
Synthesis of Degradable Bio-Composites Based on Recycle Polypropylene Filled with Bamboo Powder Using a Reactive Process

Abstract: Synthesis of bio-composite from recycled polypropylene (rPP) using bamboo powder (BP) as a filler had been carried out. Five levels of filler loading with or without divinyl benzene (DVB) were designed. The influence of filler concentration could improve tensile strength (TS) up to the optimum condition (ratio rPP/BP = 8/2). The effect of the bamboo particle size showed that the TS increased as the size of the particle smaller. The effect of BP particle size showed that the bigger of its size gave better bio-degradation properties. The use of DVB for the synthesis of bio-composites showed more biodegradable than without DVB.
