Revista Cubana de Ortopedia y Traumatolog?-a , 1996,
Abstract: results attained in 200 patients with diverse arthropathies and orthopaedic and rheumatologic disorders attended to at the centro integral teaching policlinic of camagüey are analizaed. the teramag-mt-200 magnetic field was used in the management of these patients. good results were attained in 189 cases (94,5 %). better results were attained in disorders of the knee (osteoarthritis; synovitis; postoperative fibrosis and rigidity; chondromalacia; and hoffa's disease); epicondylitis and other disorders of the elbow; scapulohumieral periarthritis; tendinitis; inflammation of the insertions; inflammation of the trochanters; barré-liéou syndrome; and trigger fingers. the methods employed for each disorder are described.
Terapéutica con imanes en afecciones del aparato locomotor
Sosa Salinas,Ulises; Ramos González,Consuelo V.;
Revista Cubana de Ortopedia y Traumatolog?-a , 2000,
Abstract: the use of high potency magnets in the painful and inflammatory affections of the locomotor system is reported. the results obtained in 200 patients treated in the clinic of natural and traditional medicine of the higher institute of medical sciences of camagüey are analyzed. only 6 patients had the same symptomatology during the 5 sessions of treatment. the rest improved considerably or had a total absence of the inital symptomatology. the magnets were obtained from unused electrical generators, given away russian computers, bigloudspeakersetc. no intolerance or complications were observed on using this method.

American Journal of Plant Sciences (AJPS) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ajps.2014.520320
Abstract: A rainfall interception methodology was implemented in a deciduous Ficus benjamina (L.) tree to evaluate the interception loss, as well as the dynamics on canopy storage capacity (S) and free through fall (ρ). Measurements of gross precipitation (Pg), through fall and meteorological data were recorded every 5 minutes. Nineteen individual storms from summer to autumn 2005, and twenty one in spring to autumn, 2006 were analyzed. For the studied period, 151.59 mm and 203.35 mm of rainfall occurred on 2005 and 2006 respectively. Canopy interception was 59.46% and 70.98% of Pg for the first and second year. Throughfall data recorded during 2005 were  38.14% (of Pg) and 27.21% (of Pg) for 2006. The throughfall and gross precipitation relationship yielded S = 1.50 mm for the 2005 data. In 2006 storms were analyzed in detail, where ρ and S varied in a range from 0.10 to 0.64 and from 1.00 to 2.03 mm, respectively. Moreover, application of the Rutter and Gash models with two years of rainfall data (2005-2006) from the study area indicated an underestimation and overestimation of 69% and 88%, respectively. The slightly best prediction of the interception loss was obtained with the Gash model. Yet S and ρ change significantly due to wind speed, temperature, rainfall intensity and seasonal vegetation development.

Terapéutica piramidal en Ortopedia, ?mito o realidad?
Sosa Salinas,Ulises; Castro Soto del Valle,Antonio; Salles Betancourt,Guido;
Revista Cubana de Ortopedia y Traumatolog?-a , 1999,
Abstract: the preliminary results obtained in 210 patients treated with the new technique of pyramidal therapeutics at the clinic of natural and traditional medicine of the higher institute of medical sciences of camagüey were analyzed. pyramides made of aluminum and acrylic of different sizes according to the region to be treated were used. it was proved that its action is eminently analgesic, antiflogistic and bacteriostatic and that orthopedic and traumatological affections characterized by pain and inflammation of the soft tissues with local sepsis or not may be also treated. the therapeutics should start as soon as possible to attain better results. it should not be associated either with blockings with corticoids or with the systemic administration of steroids, since the therapeutic action of the pyramidal energy is inhibited.
Dedo en resorte por nódulo del tendón flexor: tratamiento mediante electromagnetoterapia en atención primaria
SOSA SALINAS,ULISES; HERNáNDEZ RODRíGUEZ,ALBERTO; MORFA VIAMONTES,FéLIX;
Revista Cubana de Ortopedia y Traumatolog?-a , 1997,
Abstract: an early phase ii, open, nonsequential clinical assay was conducted among 50 patients over 16 years old with the diagnosis of trigger digit that received medical attention at the orthopedics department of the central community polyclinic of camagüey from may, 1995, to may, 1996. patients were divided into 2 groups. a regimen of constant current was applied to one of them, and of unconstant current to the other, with a similar efficiency. as an average, 10 sessions were necessary to solve this affection. 100 % of the patients were cured at the end of the treatment. only one had a relapse less than 3 months after the treatment. no adverse reactions were observed in the sample studied. according to the results obtained in this preliminary paper, electromagnetotherapy may be considered as a posibility for the conservative treatment of this disorder considered as eminently surgical, and it may be also used in primare care.
Impacto del Seguro Popular en el gasto catastrófico y de bolsillo en el México rural y urbano, 2005-2008

Salud Pública de México , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0036-36342011001000006
Abstract: objective. to estimate the effect of "seguro popular" (sp) on the incidence of catastrophic health expenditure (che) and out-of-pocket (oop) health expenditure in the medium term. material and methods. we used the 'encuesta de evaluación del sp' -sp survey evaluation- (2005-2008). we analyzed the sp effect on the rural cohort during two years of follow-up (2006 and 2008) and in the urban cohort during one year of follow-up (2008). results. at the local level (regional clusters) we did not find an effect of the sp. at the household level we found a protective effect of sp on che and the oop health payments in outpatient and hospitalization in rural areas; and a significant effect on the reduction of oop health payments in outpatient services in urban zones. conclusions. sp seems to be an effective program to protect poor household against out-of-pocket health expenditures in the medium term.
Análisis estadístico para datos de conteo: aplicaciones para el uso de los servicios de salud
Salinas-Rodríguez,Aarón; Manrique-Espinoza,Betty; Sosa-Rubí,Sandra G;
Salud Pública de México , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0036-36342009000500007
Abstract: objective: to describe some of the statistical models for the study of count variables in the context of the use of health services. material and methods: we used the seguro popular evaluation survey to estimate the effect of seguro popular on the frequency of use of outpatient health services, using poisson regression models and negative binomial, zero-inflated negative binomial and the hurdle negative binomial models. we used the akaike information criterion (aic) to define the best model. results: results show that the best statistical approach to model the use of health services is the hurdle model, taking into account both the main theoretical assumptions and the statistical results of the aic. discussion: the modelling of count data requires the application of statistical models to model data dispersion; in the presence of an excess of zeros, the hurdle model is an appropriate statistical option.
