Soy Germ Protein With or Without-Zn Improve Plasma Lipid Profile in Metabolic Syndrome Women
HAYATI Journal of Biosciences , 2012,
Abstract: The aim of this research was to determine the effect of soy germ protein on lipid profile of metabolic syndrome (MetS) patients. Respondents were 30 women with criteria, i.e. blood glucose level > normal, body mass index > 25 kg/m2, hypertriglyceridemia, low cholesterol-HDL level, 40-65 years old, living in Purwokerto, and signed the informed consent. The project was approved by the ethics committee of the Medical Faculty from Gadjah Mada University-Yogyakarta. Respondents were divided into three randomly chosen groups consisting of ten women each. The first, second, and third groups were treated, respectively, with milk enriched soy germ protein plus Zn, milk enriched soy germ protein (without Zn), and placebo for two months. Blood samples were taken at baseline, one and two months after observation. Two months after observation the groups consuming milk enriched with soy germ protein, both with or without Zn, had their level of cholesterol-total decrease from 215.8 to 180.2 mg/dl (P = 0.03), triglyceride from 240.2 to 162.5 mg/dl (P = 0.02), and LDL from 154.01 to 93.85 mg/dl (P = 0.03). In contrast, HDL increased from 38.91 to 49.49 mg/dl (P = 0.0008). In conclusion, soy germ protein can improve lipid profile, thus it can inhibit atherosclerosis incident.

The HIV epidemic in Indonesia has risen sharply since 2004, from 2682 cases in 2004 to 19,973 in 2009. The main transmission route of HIV in Indonesia is injecting drug use. There is little research on women who inject drugs in Indonesia. In-depth interviews were carried out with 19 women who injected drugs in three small cities in central Java. The interviews explored the living conditions of the women and the context of HIV risk. The transcripts were coded and the data were thematically analyzed. In this paper we report on condom use with regular partners. Condom use was very low with their regular partners, even though both they and their partners were injecting drug users. The reasons women gave were that they trusted their partners (although they realised this trust was shaky). The women used traditional Javanese cultural concepts of consideration to explain why they did not use condoms. This was heightened by other cultural norms of women’s place in Javanese society. Although the women in the study were marginalized because of their drug use, they still hold to many Indonesian cultural precepts—of consideration and care for the other above oneself in their relationships with their regular partners which impede condom use. While notions of consideration and harmony were used to explain non-condom use, the same notions could also be used in couple-counseling to assist.

Abstract: Behind the good will of government to build flats for low-income communities, there was a reduction of socio-cultural essence of life of its inhabitants. Reduction is happening in social interaction, initially living in a neighboring village, later turned into a mood of alienation and limitations because living in flats story a lot. This study used qualitative rationalistic approach, which aims to reveal the patterns of communal space as a space of social interaction of residents, expected results will be the next design evaluation flats. Research on patterns of communal space is taking the case of flats located in the Bandarharjo. More than eighteen years, residents tried to build social interaction with neighbors although no longer made in the halls of the road as well as in the villages. Their efforts are utilizing the functions of each floor of the building and the lobby open spaces around the ground floor of the building for social interaction among residents. Utilization of space functions has resulted in a communal space patterns in groups with the intensity of the use of high, medium, and low. The communal lounge with high intensity use tend to be close to their house.

Abstract: The purpose of this research was to examine the criterion validity of EAS 4 visual speed and accuracy test. Score of EAS 4 visual speed and accuracy test was correlated with score of clerical speed and accuracy test from differential aptitude test (DAT) battery. The subjects of this research were 87 students of the Faculty of Psychology Ahmad Dahlan University. The data were obtained through EAS 4 visual speed and accuracy test and clerical speed and accuracy test (D4). Quantitative analysis was done by SPSS version 15 software. Product moment's correlation analysis was used to test the relationship between score of EAS 4 visual speed and accuracy test and score of clerical speed and accuracy test (D4). The result of this research shows that there was a significant correlation (r=0,591; p=0,000) between score of EAS 4 visual speed and accuracy test and score of clerical speed and accuracy test (D4). It means that EAS 4 visual speed and accuracy test had good criterion validity to measure perceptual ability.

Kryzys lat 2007–2009 i luka informacyjna w sektorze finansowym

Management and Business Administration. Central Europe , 2013, DOI: 10.7206/mba.ce.2084-3356.55
Abstract: Purpose: The paper aims at identifying the major information gaps related to the financial sector that have emerged during the last years, including the explanation of the reasons and consequences of these gaps.Methodology: The analysis is conducted using the descriptive methodology based on real developments in the financial sector. This analysis identifies substantial institutional changes within the financial sector combined with the introduction of new financial instruments that significantly increased information gaps related to financial developments.Findings: We found that one of the main reasons for the breakdown in the financial liquidity market was the sudden buildup of a systemic risk caused, among other things, by substantial information gaps and limitations in the transparency of financial markets. The low transparency of the financial markets has been caused by institutional changes and new financial instruments introduced within the financial sector. They were introduced by the financial institutions themselves to facilitate very risky financial activities that were very profitable for them in the short term, but – as it occurred – very disruptive for the whole financial system and the whole economy in the longer term.Research limitations: The analysis is limited only to the consideration of the causes and consequences of statistical gaps substantially reducing the transparency of the financial sector. A more comprehensive project should also explore and provide an appropriate proposal for remedy data and – even more important – a proposal to set up a macroprudential policy framework.Originality: The original contribution of the paper is the link between specific institutional changes within the financial sector as well as new financial instruments and the emergence of particular information gaps.
Telerehabilitation In South Africa – Is There A Way Forward?
Maurice Mars
International Journal of Telerehabilitation , 2011, DOI: 10.5195/ijt.2011.6069
Abstract: South Africa, like the rest of sub-Saharan Africa, has a disproportionate burden of disease and a shortage of health professionals. Telemedicine has been identified as a possible way of overcoming part of the problem but telemedicine has not been widely adopted. In the public sector hospitals in South Africa which serve 82% of the population there are 2.5 physiotherapists and 2 occupational therapists per 100,000 people served. The extent of telerehabilitation in South Africa is unknown. A literature review of telerehabilitation found no papers from South Africa. A survey of the heads of university departments of physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language pathology revealed limited knowledge of telerehabilitation. Telerehabilitation services are confined to follow-up of patients at some institutions by telephone, fax or email. There is need to raise awareness among therapists if telerehabilitation is to become a reality in South Africa. Future actions are outlined.
A spacetime characterization of the Kerr metric
Marc Mars
Physics , 1999, DOI: 10.1088/0264-9381/16/7/323
Abstract: We obtain a characterization of the Kerr metric among stationary, asymptotically flat, vacuum spacetimes, which extends the characterization in terms of the Simon tensor (defined only in the manifold of trajectories) to the whole spacetime. More precisely, we define a three index tensor on any spacetime with a Killing field, which vanishes identically for Kerr and which coincides in the strictly stationary region with the Simon tensor when projected down into the manifold of trajectories. We prove that a stationary asymptotically flat vacuum spacetime with vanishing spacetime Simon tensor is locally isometric to Kerr. A geometrical interpretation of this characterization in terms of the Weyl tensor is also given. Namely, a stationary, asymptotically flat vacuum spacetime such that each principal null direction of the Killing form is a repeated principal null direction of the Weyl tensor is locally isometric to Kerr.
