Abstract: the aim of the present work is to describe and analyze the linguistic attitude of people at the tri-border among brazil, colombia, and peru towards the spanish and portuguese varieties spoken in the area, and towards the phenomenon of codeswitching and interference resulting from linguistic contact. by means of interviews and direct observation, the article attempts to describe the linguistic attitude from three dimensions: cognitive, affective and behavioral. data analysis shows that there is a high level of negative attitude and negative self-attitude towards these speech varieties. results indicate a situation of linguistic stigmatization that is added to the ongoing social discrimination. thus, the study proposes the implementation of linguistic policies that promote the local speech forms through mass media and education in order to guarantee a process of consolidation of linguistic democracy, which in turn will lead to equity and social justice.

Abstract: Este trabajo tiene como objetivo describir y analizar las actitudes lingüísticas de los habitantes de la trifrontera Brasil-Colombia-Perú frente al portugués y espa ol del área, así como frente al fenómeno de alternancias e interferencias lingüísticas surgidas del contacto. A través de la técnica de la entrevista y la observación directa, se describen las actitudes desde sus dimensiones cognitiva, afectiva y conductual, y se descubren altos porcentajes de valoraciones y autovaloraciones negativas frente a las formas de habla estudiadas, lo cual sugiere una situación de discriminación lingüística que se suma al de discriminación social existente. Se propone, entonces, el comienzo de discusiones alrededor de políticas lingüísticas que apunten a la promoción de las formas de habla locales a través de los medios de comunicación existentes y los escenarios educativos, con el propósito de garantizar procesos de consolidación de la democratización lingüística y, en consecuencia, de equidad y justicia social.

Abstract: this study offers theoretical and empirical evidence of the impact a research training program in teaching reading and writing had on a group of 30 teachers whose professional training is in disciplines other than education. the teaching practices of the selected teachers were observed during a period of 18 months. the study identified a change in concept and educational practices with respect to teaching and learning, and the extent to which the professionals in question appropriated the training they received, in terms of declarative knowledge and exercise of their teaching skills.
p53 Codon 72 Polymorphism and Risk of Cervical Cancer

Abstract: Storey et al. (1998) implicated the proline/argine polymorphism of the codon 72 of the tumor-suppressor gene p53 in the development of cervical cancer (CC) with the observation that the p53 protein is more efficiently inactivated by the E6 oncoprotein of human papillomavirus in p53 arginine as compared with its proline isoform. These authors further noted that in the United Kingdom, individuals homozygous for the arginine allele were several times more susceptible to HPV-associated tumorigenesis that proline/arginine heterozygotes. Subsequent studies in different countries failed to unanimously confirm this association. Motivated by the high incidence of CC in Chile, we undertook a case control study obtaining the following frequencies for genotypes PP, AP and AA in 60 ICC cases and 53 carefully selected controls: 0.067, 0.250, 0.683 and 0.075, 0.453, 0.472 respectively. A significant difference (X2 = 3.19 p < 0.02) and an odds ratio of 2.62 supported Storey et al (1998)'s results. In addition, rejecting previous hypotheses about the world distribution of the p53 codon 72 polymorphism, we conclude that this distribution most likely represents ancient human dispersal routes. Several methodological and biological explanations for the results obtained in previous negative association studies are briefly discussed.
CORRELACIóN ENTRE LA ENFERMEDAD RESPIRATORIA AGUDA (ERA) EN MUJERES EMBARAZADAS Y LA CALIDAD DEL AIRE CORRELATION BETWEEN ACUTE RESPIRATORY DISEASE (ARE) IN PREGNANT WOMEN AND THE AIR QUALITY

Abstract: La contaminación ambiental es uno de los factores que contribuye a exacerbar las enfermedades respiratorias (ERA) y que puede afectar el embarazo. Se tomaron los registros de consulta externa y de urgencias del Hospital de Suba y se tabularon las cinco primeras causas de ERA, correlacionándolas con los promedios mensuales del material particulado PM10, concentración de Gases NO, N0(2), NOx, SO2, flujo radiante (W), dirección del viento (DV) y temperatura medio ambiente (TPM). En la evaluación estadística, se utilizaron medidas de tendencia central y el índice de correlación de Pearson. Se tabularon 6.310 casos que ingresaron al Hospital, de los cuales, 1.307 correspondieron a mujeres embarazadas (27,9%). Las cinco primeras causas de ERA presentaron una frecuencia de asma no específica (26,1%), amigdalitis (24,4%) gripa (21,8%), faringitis (16%) y asma (11,5%). Las diferencias promedio de las variables mostraron diferencias entre el primer y el segundo semestre, así: W (X=177 vs 155), DV (225,7 vs 199,5), T°C (16,8 vs 15,6) y PM10 (94,23 vs 84,86), y para los gases: NO (10,5 vs 15,2), NO2 (15,9 vs 16,4), NOx (28,5 vs 31,8) y SO2 (2,0 vs 3,2). En su correlación mostró una fuerte asociación entre PM10, SO2 y asma no específica (p < 0,007 y 0,0048) y DV y estado gripal (0,048). Se puede afirmar que la contaminación ambiental, se manifiesta en forma cíclica durante el a o, afectando la ERA en la mujer embarazada, existiendo una correlación significativa entre las PM10, SO2 y asma no específica y la DV y los estados gripales. Environmental pollution is one of the factors that contribute to exacerbate respiratory diseases (ERA) and can affect pregnancy. The records of outpatient and emergency entrances of the Hospital of Suba, were studied and tabulated, correlating the five leading causes of ERA with the monthly averages of particulated materials PM10s, fume concentration NO, N0(2), NOx, SO2, radiant flux (W), wind direction (DV), environmental temperature (TPM). In the evaluation, statistical measures of central tendency and the Pearson index were used. 6310 cases entering the Hospital were tabulated, corresponding 1,307 (27.9%) to pregnant women. The five leading causes of ERA presented a frequency of non specified asthma (26.1%), tonsillitis (24.4%) flu (21.8%), pharyngitis (16%) and asthma (11.5%). Abstract: Esta investigación presenta evidencia teórica y empírica del impacto que tiene un programa de formación en investigación en pedagogía de la lectura y la escritura, en un grupo de 30 docentes conformación profesional en áreas diferentes a la educación. Los profesores seleccionados fueron observados en sus prácticas pedagógicas durante un a o y medio. La investigación identificó la transformación conceptual y de las prácticas pedagógicas con respecto a la ense anza y el aprendizaje, y el grado de apropiación de la formación impartida, tanto en lo relacionado con el conocimiento declarativo como en la ejecución de competencias pedagógicas de los docentes. Abstract: color perception represents a major adaptive advantage which has been given by evolutionary pathways. it is such an important mechanism of biological signaling, a source of information from the environment. there are external factors other than those related with physiological processes influencing such perception, like sex and gender, due to the presence of estrogens receptors on the retina. the results of a test, designed to distinguish influences of sex, gender and eye diseases upon color perception are presented. the experimental device consisted of accomplishing a chromatic effect in one half of a trapezoidal white card receiving reflection from the other half, which is magenta in color, irradiated with white light. data from 561 people (289 women and 272 men), whose ages are in the range of 4-71 years were taken. men and women whose age ranged between 9 and 35 years old perceived lighter tonalities (magenta percentage <50%) than older people. probably darkening of cornea and lens in people over 35 years old lead to a tendency of perceiving duskier colors. moreover, women perceive darker colors (46-50% magenta) than men (38-44% magenta). significant differences were found between ages ranging from of 9-13 (p=0,04) and from 14-18 years old (p=0,03); these ranges coincide with the beginning of hormonal changes, the first age range associated to women, and the second one linked to men
