Fu Zi Prevent Extreme Cold Stress in Broilers Through Anti-Oxidative Activity

Abstract: Radix aconiti laterlis preparata (Fu Zi in Chinese), a Chinese traditional medicine has been widely used for Yang deficiency. Recent clinical studies have shown that Fu Zi could ameliorate stressed condition but the mechanisms underlying the anti-stress effect of Fu Zi remains unknown. In this study, researchers examined the effects of Fu Zi on the treatment of broilers exposed to Extreme Cold Stress (ECS). The levels of Nitric Oxide (NO) and creatine kinase in plasma were measured and Hsp70 mRNA expression in different tissues was analyzed. Broilers subjected to ECS exhibited increased NO content before 3 h and increased Hsp70 expression under a time and tissue-dependent manner. Biochemically, Fu Zi reversed ECS-induced increases in NO and Hsp70 mRNA and the results suggest that Fu Zi supplemented broilers kept an elevated plasma NO content through anti-oxidative activity during ECS.
On the Sackur-Tetrode equation in an expanding universe

Abstract: in this work we investigate the thermodynamic properties satisfied by an expanding universe filled with a monoatomic ideal gas. we show that the equations for the energy density, entropy density and chemical potential remain the same of an ideal gas confined to a constant volume v. in particular the sackur-tetrode equation for the entropy of the ideal gas is also valid in the case of an expanding universe, provided that the constant value that represents the current entropy of the universe is appropriately chosen.

Abstract: En el presente trabajo investigamos las propriedades termodinámicas que son satisfechas por un universo en expansión, el cual es lleno por un gas ideal monoatómico. Se prueba que las ecuaciones para la densidad de la energía, la densidad de la entropía y el potencial químico son las mismas que las de un gas ideal, el cual se encuentra confinado en un volumen V. En particular, la ecuación de Sackur-Tetrode, para la entropía del gas ideal continua siendo válido en el caso de un universo en expansión, siempre que el valor constante que representa la entropía del universo actual sea escojido adecuadamente.

A New Species of Psammophilic Scorpion From Iran (Scorpions: Buthidae)

Abstract: In order to study the psammophilic scorpions of sandy habitats of two provinces in western and south western Iran, some samplings were carried out by night catch (UV light) method during October 2007-March 2009. In total, 187 scorpions were collected. Vachoniolus iranus is a new species of Vachoniolus, that described from Khoozestan and Ilam provinces in South-western and Western of Iran. This is first record of genus Vachoniolus from Iran.

Abstract: Feronia limonia Linn. (Rutaceae) have gained traditional therapeutic importance owing to their high essential oil and coumarins content. Marmesin, a furanocoumarin was identified by TLC and isolated by column chromatography and further purified by Preparative TLC. Presently, there is no appropriate TLC based method available for standardization of F. limonia. A simple, sensitive and accurate high performance thin layer chromatographic (HPTLC) method has been developed for the estimation of marmesin in the methanolic extract of stem bark of Feronia limonia. HPTLC was performed on precoated silica gel 60F254 aluminium plates (20 cm × 20 cm) with Chloroform: Methanol (9.5:0.5), as mobile phase. Quantitative evaluation of the plate was performed in the absorption-reflection mode at 338 nm. The calibration curve was linear in the concentration range of 20 – 100 ng spot–1. The method was validated for precision, repeatability and accuracy. The technique has been applied, for the first time, for the estimation of marmesin. The proposed method was found to be robust, precise, and accurate, it therefore holds potential for detection, monitoring and quantification of marmesin in Feronia limonia and its related formulation.
First Record of Cercospora Leaf Spot Disease on Okra Plants and its Control in Egypt

Abstract: During June to September 2008, okra plants (Hibiscus esculentus L.) in Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate exhibited typical symptoms of Cercospora Leaf Spot (CLS) at different locations. Symptoms of infected okra leaves firstly started as light brown spots then turned to purple and varying in size. The spots spread to cover large areas of infected leaves. In case of severe infection, spots joined together and formed patches. Later, leaves were dry and remained intact with stem of plant. Samples of diseased leaves were collected to isolate the causal organisms. Isolated fungi were purified using single spore culture technique. Developed fungus was identified as Cercospora sp. Fresen based on cultural and morphological characteristics after light microscope examination. Also, Alternaria alternate and Aspergillus niger were isolated as associated fungi. Pathoginicity test confirmed efficiency of Cercospora sp. to induce typical symptoms on okra plants compared with other fungi. Foliar application using different concentrations of Topsin M-70WP and lemongrass oil was significantly reduced disease incidence compared with control. According to the available literature, this is the first record of CLS on okra in Egypt under natural infection in the field.
