Abstract: Recibido 11 de setiembre 2007 Aprobado 20 de noviembre 2007 Resumen. Abstract. The intention of the article is to announce the needs of a curriculum Identified in the NicaraguanThis article analyses the potential of information and communication technologies from a rural social context approach. The author approaches the advantages of the social incorporation of this resource, its menaces and risks as well as the aspects that have to be valued when an impact on social development is expected. This perspective allows tackling the relation between ICTs and social concerns such as social inequality, gender equity, and community participation, among others. The article ends up presenting a reflection about some challenges in this matter.
The Portuguese Medieval Parliament: Are We Asking the Right Questions?
Luís Miguel Duarte
E-Journal of Portuguese History , 2003,
Abstract: It had traditionally been thought that the history of the Portuguese mediaeval parliament was exhausted from the point of view of available information; almost all approaches had studied the Cortes from a legal angle. In 1990, Armindo de Sousa published As Cortes Medievais Portuguesas (1385-1490); this work was to radically renew everything that was known about the theme, proving that, even from the strictly factual point of view, there continued to be a large number of errors and gaps and, above all, suggesting a sociological and political approach to the mediaeval parliament, treating the texts that were produced at the Cortes as discourses, rejecting biologistic theories and concepts such as nature and decadence, lingering in particular over the study of the primary and secondary functions of parliament. But this book, which represented a complete break with everything that had previously been written on the theme, did not provoke any significant reaction either in Portugal or in other countries, being received in virtual silence. Thirteen years after its publication, this article seeks to rekindle discussion about the more controversial and innovative aspects of Armindo de Sousa’s thesis, as well as updating it in regard to a number of aspects and putting forward a new agenda for research into the Portuguese mediaeval parliament.
Phytoplankton lysis predicts dissolved organic carbon release in marine plankton communities
S. Agustí,C. M. Duarte
Biogeosciences (BG) & Discussions (BGD) , 2013,
Abstract: The relationship between the percent extracellular carbon release (PER) and the specific lysis rates of phytoplankton was examined across a range of communities spanning from highly oligotrophic ones in the subtropical Atlantic Ocean to productive ones in the N. African upwelling and the Southern Ocean. Communities in oligotrophic waters supported high phytoplankton cell lysis rates and low particulate primary production rates but high dissolved primary production and PER. The percent extracellular carbon released increased with increasing lysis rates to reach an asymptote at about 80% PER with specific lysis rates > 1.5 d 1, observed in the most oligotrophic conditions tested. These results confirm that high phytoplankton mortality in the oligotrophic ocean leads to high PER, accounting for the large fraction of the photosynthetic carbon channelled through bacteria characteristic of oligotrophic marine communities.

Rapid carbon cycling in the oligotrophic ocean
C. M. Duarte,S. Agustí
Biogeosciences Discussions , 2011, DOI: 10.5194/bgd-8-11661-2011
Abstract: The dynamics of organic carbon production, release and bacterial use was examined across a range of communities spanning from highly oligotrophic ones in the Subtropical Atlantic Ocean, mesotrophic ones in the Mediterranean Sea and productive ones in the Northern African upwelling and the Southern Ocean. A comparative analysis of experiments examining total and particulate organic carbon production across a range of time scales (15 min to 24 h) for 20 communities with contrasting phytoplankton cell status, as assessed by cell lysis rates, and the use of a simple inverse model was used to resolve patterns of carbon flow in the microbial food web. Communities in productive ocean waters accumulated organic carbon over hourly time scales, whereas only a small fraction of net primary production accumulated in communities from oligotrophic waters. These communities supported high phytoplankton cell lysis rates leading to a rapid flux of organic carbon to bacteria, which had high affinity for phytoplankton-derived carbon, much of which was rapidly respired. Conventional assessments of primary production in the oligotrophic ocean severely underestimate net phytoplankton production, as carbon flow in microbial communities from oligotrophic ocean waters occurs within short (minutes) time scales. This explains difficulties to reconcile estimates of primary production with independent estimates of carbon use by bacteria in oligotrophic marine ecosystems.

Aproxima es exploratórias entre Antonio Gramsci e o esporte Aproximaciones exploratorias entre Antonio Gramsci y el deporte Exploratory approximations between Antonio Gramsci and sport
According to several hypotheses which have been raised in recent studies, Antonio Gramsci’s interest in sport was close to zero. However, his lucubrations and his legacy are proficuous because they indirectly contributed to the intellection of this phenomenon which is one of the most expressive nowadays. This research has the goal of bringing to light a little of this discussion; that is, approximating Antonio Gramsci and sport in an exploratory way. For this purpose, a bibliographic review was carried out in order to investigate the work of this Sardinian philosopher, some of his interpreters in Brazil, as well as scholars of sport’s articles that use Gramsci as theoric-methodological reference, mainly from Anglophone literature.
