Atmospheric muons: experimental aspects
S. Cecchini,M. Spurio
Geoscientific Instrumentation, Methods and Data Systems (GI) & Discussions (GID) , 2012, DOI: 10.5194/gi-1-185-2012
Abstract: We present a review of atmospheric muon flux and energy spectrum measurements over almost six decades of muon momentum. Sea level and underground/water/ice experiments are considered. Possible sources of systematic errors in the measurements are examined. The characteristics of underground/water muons (muons in bundle, lateral distribution, energy spectrum) are discussed. The connection between the atmospheric muon and neutrino measurements are also reported.

In order to describe the clinical and laboratory findings of Mycobacterium tuberculosis peritonitis M. tuberculosis in HIV+ patients, we conducted a retrospective analysis of the medical records of HIV+ patients with isolation of M. tuberculosis from ascitic fluid (AF), assisted at Hospital Mu iz, Buenos Aires, Argentina (1996-2005). Results: 21 patients were included. Median age: 33, male sex: 52%; peripheral blood CD4-T lymphocyte count (median): 85/mm3; prior history of tuberculosis: 40%; cirrhosis: 65%; enolism: 45%; HCV coinfection: 85%. The most frequent symptoms were abdominal distension (71%), fever (62%) and abdominal pain (19%). The chemical characteristics of the AF were (median): leukocyte count: 751/mm3 (mononuclear predominance: 79%), protein: 3.1 g/dl, LDH: 351 IU/l. AF samples positive for acid fast bacilli at direct microscopic examination: 14%. Infection with multidrug resistant M. tuberculosis (TB-MR): 20%. M. tuber
Pré-resfriamento e tratamento químico pós-colheita de ma??s cvs. 'Golden delicious' e 'Fuji'
Brackmann, Auri;Mazaro, Sérgio Miguel;Cecchini, Ricardo;
Ciência Rural , 1996, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-84781996000200003
Abstract: the aim of this experiment was to evaluate the effect of precooling, calcium and fungicide postharvest treatments on quality of 'golden delicious ' and 'fuji' apples during storage in air and controlled atmosphere conditions. the 18 treatments were combinations of three levels of precooling (without precooling, with precooling until 10°c and with precooling down to 4.5°c); two levels of calcium application (without and with calcium) and three levels of fungicide application (without fungicide, fungicide during precooling and fungicide after precooling). calcium source was cacl2 (2%) and fungicide used was iprodione (150g.i.a./100 l.). temperature of fruits storage in air was 1°c. 'golden delicious' fruits were stored in controlled atmosphere with 4% of co2 and 1.5% of o2 concentrations and temperature was kept at 1°c. 'fuji' fruits were stored in controlled atmosphere with 0.4% of co2, and 2.5% of o2 concentrations and temperature was kept at 2°c. 'golden delicious' and 'fuji' apples in cold storage were evaluated after five and six months, respectively. in controlled atmosphere the evaluations was done after eight months of storage. the results showed that the two forms of precooling reduced weight loss and schriveling of apples. precooling with temperature lower than 4.5°c provided higher rol anel fruit splitting incidences than the precooling down to 10°c. cacl2 reduced the rot of fruits that had be wouded. the best results on rots control was obtained with fungicide application during precooling, however the use of fungicide during precooling caused fruit schriveling, mainly in long precooling down to 4.5°c.
Clarisa Brezzo,Diego Cecchini,Fernando Biscione,Tomás Orduna
Medicina (Buenos Aires) , 2006,
A 21 year old man, previously healthy, presented with subcutaneous nodes consistent with gummas. Ultrasonography disclosed multiple subcutaneous abscesses and images suitable with piomiositis, pleural and pericardium effusion. A puncture-aspirate with fine-needle was performed and produced purulent material, with isolate of Staphylococcus aureus. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing by disk diffusion showed resistant to cefalotin, erythromycin and clindamycin, and susceptibility to trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, ciprofloxacin and rifampicin. Methicilin-resistance was confirmed by Staphyslide agglutination testing (Biomérieux). The patient was treated with ciprofloxacin and rifampicin during four weeks, with a good clinical response. The frequency of CA-MRSA infections is increasing, and these are reported in patients without identified predisposing risks leading to failure on empiric therapy for community infections presumed to be due to staphylococcal agents.

Physics , 2006,
Abstract: Total solar eclipses (TSEs) offer a good opportunity to look for photons produced in possible radiative decays of solar neutrinos. In this paper we briefly review the physics bases of such searches as well as the existing limits on the neutrino proper lifetimes obtained by such experiments. We the report on the observations performed in occasion of the 29 March 2006 TSE, from Waw an Namos, Libya.
New calibrations and time stability of the response of the INTERCAST CR-39
S. Cecchini,G. Giacomelli,M. Giorgini,L. Patrizii,P. Serra
Physics , 2001, DOI: 10.1016/S1350-4487(01)00120-2
Abstract: We present new calibrations of different production batches (from 1989 to 1999) of the INTERCAST CR-39, using the BNL-AGS 1 A GeV iron beam. The comparison with previous results, obtained with the 158 A GeV lead beam from the CERN-SPS shows that, while each production batch has a different calibration curve (mainly due to minor differences in the production conditions), the aging effect is negligible. We also tested the dependence of the CR-39 response from the time elapsed between exposure and analysis (fading effect). The fading effect, if present, is less than 10%. It may be compatible with the experimental uncertainties on the bulk etching rate vB.
Mediernes magt eller magtens medier? Mediernes udvikling i Italien i 80′erne og 90′erne
Leonardo Cecchini
MedieKultur : Journal of Media and Communication Research , 1996,
