Physics Potential and Prospects for CUORE and CUORICINO experiments
I. G. Irastorza,A. Morales,S. Scopel,S. Cebrian
Physics , 2001,
Abstract: The CUORE (Cryogenic Underground Observatory for Rare Events) experiment projects to construct and operate an array of 1000 cryogenic thermal detectors of a mass of 760 g each to investigate rare events physics, in particular, double beta decay and non baryonic particle dark matter. A first step towards CUORE is CUORICINO, an array of 56 of such bolometers, currently being installed in the Gran Sasso. In this paper we report the physics potential of both stages of the experiment regarding neutrinoless double beta decay of 130Te, WIMP searches and solar axions.

Abstract: a method for the study of the pantograph-catenary dynamic interaction in railways is presented. a non linear system of differential equations with constraints has been obtained, and the models for pantograph, catenary and constraints, are discussed. the equations have been solved as ordinary differential equations using the central differences method. this procedure has been used to develop high performance software in visual c, to simulate the mechanical behavior of several pantographs interacting with the contact aerial line (catenary), in order to obtain optimal installation values both in conventional and high-speed lines.

A method for the study of the pantograph-catenary dynamic interaction in railways is presented. Abstract: the accessory soleus muscle is an uncom-mon anatomical variant. we repon a accessory soleus muscle in a 18-years-old female and we make a review oftheliterature. the clinical presentation wassofttissue swelling with mi id pain in the posteromedial región of the anckle. ultrasonography shows homogeneous echogenicity consistent with normal-appearing muscle bundles in the appropriate anatomic location. mri showed a mass with signal characteristics of normal muscle, but in an abnormal location. awareness ofthis entity can help the radiologist contribute significantly to the patient's care, because accurate radiographic diagnosis can spare the patient more invasive tests such as exploration and biopsy.

Abstract: this work presents the formulation and the computational implementation of an evolutionary algorithm (ea) to solve the reconfiguration problem of radial distribution systems under different loading condition. in a network reconfiguration problem, the string used for representation could have information on system topology. the codification adopted uses the decimal representation model. the mutation, crossover and selection operators for the reconfiguration algorithms are analyzed. the selection approached used are stochastic tournament, elitist and a mixed techniques that seeks to use the advantage of the stochastic tournament and elitist crossover operators. the crossover operator was developed considering the representation structure of the chromosome that maps the linkage branches and the system radiality exigency, and another structure that considers the topology and the network operation feasibility for the effectuate the genetic material change. strategies to adequate the parameters and improve the efficiency of the evolutionary algorithm are proposed , emphasizing the dynamic variations of the crossover and mutation rates. the initial population topologies are randomly generated considering the radiality constraints and the fast constructive algorithms of minimal generation trees of prim and kruscal. the obtained results are analyzed and presented for two real systems, one of 135 buses and another of 215 buses.

Exploiting Heavy Tails in Training Times of Multilayer Perceptrons: A Case Study with the UCI Thyroid Disease Database
Manuel Cebrian,Ivan Cantador
Computer Science , 2007,
Abstract: The random initialization of weights of a multilayer perceptron makes it possible to model its training process as a Las Vegas algorithm, i.e. a randomized algorithm which stops when some required training error is obtained, and whose execution time is a random variable. This modeling is used to perform a case study on a well-known pattern recognition benchmark: the UCI Thyroid Disease Database. Empirical evidence is presented of the training time probability distribution exhibiting a heavy tail behavior, meaning a big probability mass of long executions. This fact is exploited to reduce the training time cost by applying two simple restart strategies. The first assumes full knowledge of the distribution yielding a 40% cut down in expected time with respect to the training without restarts. The second, assumes null knowledge, yielding a reduction ranging from 9% to 23%.

Abstract: we studied by magnetic resonance angiography and cerebral angiography 41 patients with 55 aneurysms confirmed by surgery. the mr angio detected 52 aneurysms with sensibility of 94.5% and the cerebral angiography detected 53 aneurysms with sensibility of 96.3%. for being non invasive, more quickly and less expensive mr angio may substitute vascular angiography in the diagnosis of intracranial aneurysms and prognosis of the subaracachnoid hemorrhage

Abstract: introduction: injuries in hand dorsum are frequent hospital emergences. it is necessary to study the relation between initial clinics and the tendinous injuries underlying in wounds present in this region, as well to assess its exact location, the type and etiology through observational study. methods: a cross-sectional study was conducted to assess 15 patients presenting with wounds in the hand dorsum and forearm, treated in emergency room of our hospital from june to december, 2009. results: the initial screening offer us a specificity and a positive predictive value of the 100%, but a sensitivity of 17,4% and a negative predictive value of 40,81% regarding the presence of the tendinous injury. conclusion: due to a lack of correlation between the initial clinics and a possible extensor tendinous injury, it is recommended the surgical exploration of hand dorsum injuries due to its simplicity and use of surgical act.
