Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to identify pedagogical formation students’ (teacher candidates’) communication skills based on their perceptions. The study sought answers to the following research question: What are the perceptions of pedagogical formation students (teacher candidates) related to their communication skills? Assessment of pedagogical formation students’ (teacher candidates’) perceptions regarding their communication skills was undertaken through qualitative research methods. Qualitative data collected with the help of semi-structured interview form were analyzed in terms of content. The study was conducted with the participation of 48 teacher candidates attending pedagogical formation classes at Düzce University during 2013-2014 academic year. According to the data obtained at the end of the study, teacher candidates are aware of the necessity and importance of communication. They are aware that the prerequisite for being contented, successful and social individuals and professionals is healthy and good communication with others. Teacher candidates know the importance and necessity of body language in effective communication and generally prefer to use it. They are also aware of the need for written and oral communication when required. Psychological situations such as anxiety, stress, lack of self-efficacy, timidity, fear and excitement are regarded as barriers that inhibit communication. These barriers are followed by being misunderstood, lack of feedback and language, culture, prior information and prejudices related to inappropriate context/environment and persons involved in communication. Teacher candidates express that they can develop communication skills by participating in social activities. They also state that they can develop communication skills by reading books/articles/research findings, participating in courses/seminars/conferences, meeting new and different people and taking training-expert support.

Open Journal of Social Sciences (JSS) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/jss.2017.53008
Abstract: Children make a rapid development physically, cognitively and affectively in preschool educational period (age 0 - 6). The cognitive dimension of a child at pre-school age is creative, independent and imaginary. The imagination unceasingly works. This period is regarded as the time that the children have high potential of learning and developing. Thus, the quality of preschool education affects the higher educational success and even the lifelong success of the child. Therefore the aims of the research are to emphasize the importance of preschool education on the development of the child, to make a comparison between the preschool education of Turkey and other developed countries and to support preschool education by explaining why and how the preschool education in Turkey should be improved. In this research, case study method from data collection methods was used; related written and electronic resources were collected, analyzed and interpreted in line with the research purpose. The following suggestions are developed in order to improve the preschool education in Turkey: Service delivery models that increase the participation to preschool education should be varied; the preschool educational facilities should be extended supporting the access of regions with limited financial means and regulations that decreasing the educational costs of families should be adopted. For all children, especially for families with low income, preschool educational institutions should be free like in more than half of European Union countries or preschool educational costs should be arranged in accordance with family incomes and other criterion, and families should be supported. The improvement and development priority should be given to preschool educational stage, accordingly physical resources (building, materials, substructure) and human resources (manager, educator, deputy manager and support staff) should be provided. Besides preschool teaching departments should be opened in faculties of education in universities and the quota of preschool teaching departments should be increased.

Creative Education (CE) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2014.511101
Abstract:

The aim of the study is to determine the perception of workload of primary and secondary school teachers in Turkey in accordance with teachers’ opinion. The research data were collected using phenomenological pattern which is one of qualitative research methods, and analysis of documents was made. The research was made on 72 Primary and Secondary school teachers who have at least three years seniority working in 24 schools subordinate of Directorate of Istanbul Provincial Education. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews. The analysis of the resulting data was conducted by inductive content analysis. In the study, teachers generally state that security duties of teachers should be transferred to the security companies, and teachers should not interfere to the duty of collecting money from students in no way under any intentions. Again, according to the findings of the research, the most fatiguing, puzzling and time consuming issues as for teachers should be reduced which are, documents and correspondences, student tracking and control, disciplinary procedures, administrative meetings, collection of dues, ceremonies and celebrations, home visits and development of material as well. Questions of survey related to special education and guidance and counseling services should be asked by experts of this section and related ones since the related questions include very special subjects for children; as for data entries, they must be done by the school officers. The results are significant due to the fact that they offer a sight for the stakeholders about the works stated in teachers’ job description and the perception of the teachers themselves related to their workload.

Abstract: Underage marriages are going on to keep their commonness in countries such as Turkey although frequencies of them are decreasing in the world. According to the law, marriages before eighteen years old are also defined as early marriages. Being married of girls at early ages makes these children deprived from education life and their vicinity. Therefore severe psychological difficulties occur in these children. In this study, 19 girls, who were being married at early ages and psychologically examined between January 1st, 2013-April 1st, 2015 in physical and mental health committee of the Dicle University, Medical Faculty, were taken to evaluate. These 19 cases were retrospectively assessed in sociodemographic data (age, education level, and relative degrees), type of marriage, state of mind, forensic reports and files. Of 410 cases, who admitted to our mental and physical committee, 19 (4.6%) were at the category of early age marriage. These 19 cases range between 13 and 17 years of age. Three of them (15.8%) were thinking of suicide and one of them (5.3%) attempted suicide. At least, one mental disorder was diagnosed in 8 (42.1%) of the cases and the most common diagnose was acute stress disorder in four (21.1%) cases. It has been stated that marriages at early ages are caused by economic and cultural reasons. As conclusion, being married of children at early ages is an important risk factor in social and mental health.

Mathematics , 2013,
Abstract: In this paper, the parallel transport frames over non-lightlike curves in Minkowski 3-space are introduced. Evolution equations of these frames with respect to arc length and time are calculated over the space of these curves. Then the equivalence of the non-linear Schr\"odinger equation and non-linear heat system to the vortex filament equation for the binormal motion of non-lightlike curves is shown by use of the parallel frames and their evolution equations.

Anadolu Kardiyoloji Dergisi , 2010,
Abstract: Objective: To investigate possible relationship between the D-dimer and ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) levels and radiological imaging-based severity scores in pulmonary embolism (PE) based on two different radiological characteristics; the pulmonary arterial obstruction index (PAOI) and the right ventricle/left ventricle (RV/LV) ratio. Methods: In this prospective cohort study, forty-seven patients presenting to the emergency department and definitively diagnosed with PE using spiral computerized tomography (CT) were initially enrolled in the study. Levels of IMA and D-dimer were assessed colorimetrical and immuno-turbidimetric methods, respectively. The PAOI and RV/LV ratios were calculated from CT images. The levels of biochemical parameters between the groups were compared with use of Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis tests and relationship between the radiological scores were assessed using the Spearman correlation test. Results: Analysis of the calculated PAOI and RV/LV ratio revealed a significant correlation between them (r=0.36, p=0.023). D-dimer levels differed considerably among the mild (<40%), moderate (40%-60%) and severe (60%) groups constituted on the basis of PAOI (p=0.039). This difference stemmed from those in D-dimer levels in the mild group, PAOI <40 % and the severe group, PAOI 60% (p=0.02; Z= -2.328). In addition, D-dimer levels and PAOI revealed a positive correlation, but no similar correlation was determined between D-dimer levels and RV/LV. There were no significant correlations between IMA and D-dimer levels, PAOI and RV/LV ratios. Conclusion: In the biochemical determination of severity of PE based on radiological characteristics, D-dimer may be a more relevant marker than IMA, which has been proposed as a new marker.

Dicle Medical Journal , 2005,
Abstract: We have aimed in this study to describe the epidemiology of mortalities in Diyarbakir, Turkey over a 4 years period.Data obtained from the Diyarbakir City forensic Section, including autopsy reports. We considered ages, gender, cause and type of death, season, and death time. There were 983 (68.2%) males and 458 (31.8%) females. The majority were in the groups aged 0-10 years (28%). The most frequently cause of death was traffic accidents (39.1%), followed by fall from height (17.1%). There were a total of 1097 (76%) victims of accidental, 123 (9%) suicides and 221 (15%) homicides. There was an increase in the July month (12.9%). It was detected that the rate of autopsy very low (20%) and in 36.9% of victims autopsy was performed systematically. In conclusion, preventive measures of traffic accidents and falling from height may lead to reduce mortality in our region, given that more than half of deaths were related to these accidents.
