Abstract: Success in root canal treatment is achieved after thorough cleaning and shaping followed by complete obturation of the canal system. Therefore, endodontic therapy requires specific and complete knowledge of the internal and external dental anatomy, and its variations in presentation. Such treatment may be performed in root canal systems that do not comply with the normal anatomical features described in standard textbooks. The internal anatomy of the maxillary central incisor is well known and usually presents one root canal system. This case report describes an endodontic retreatment of a maxillary central incisor with two canal systems.

This work aimed to research the aquatic insect community structure using this community as a bioindicator of the environmental quality in a stretch of the Correntoso river, in Pantanal do Negro, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. Six collections were taken in different seasonal periods; ebb, dry and wet. The organisms were collected using a 300 Ym mesh D net sweeping five times through the roots of macrophyte banks at each sample. Three environments were compared (open, intermediary, closed) by adding the information from six collection sites. Family richness, absolute and relative abundance ofinsect samples and an evaluation of water quality were analyzed by using the BMWP index, BMWP-ASPT index, IBF index and Shannon diversity index, with log2. A total of 60 families from 12 orders of Insecta Class were recorded, totaling 19,773 individuals. Among the indexes applied, the BMWP index was the one that best represented the conditions of the studied environment.

Abstract: the maximization of environmental resources exploration is necessary to maximize maize grain yield. the plant arrangement (spatial arrangement and occupied area by the plant), acts on the intraspecific competition by environmental factors. thus, the objective of this work was to compare the equidistant plant spacing and 0.80m row width, in populations of 30000 to 105000 plants ha-1. the essay was located in a clay red alfisol area, in the fca/unesp-botucatu-sp, in 2007/08 growing season. the experimental design was a randomized block in four replications, in 4.5 x 10m plots. it was evaluated ear and grain length, ear and cob diameter, number of grain rows and grain weight per ear, a thousand grains weight, ear index, ear and grain number per hectare, plant lodging and grain yield. all parameters evaluated were affected by plant densities and the spatial arrangements affected only the percentage of stalk lodged plants. in these conditions, it can be affirmed that the maize plant was influenced mainly by plant densities, not by plant arrangement.

Abstract: Semisynthetic beta-lactam antibiotics are among the most used pharmaceuticals. Their use in veterinary and human medicine is in continuous expansion. There is a growing need for developing bioactive implants. Advantages of implantable drug delivery tools can include high release efficiency, precise dose control, low toxicity, and allow to overcome disadvantages connected with conventional methods. In this respect, hydroxyapatite (HA) is an elective material. It enables to produce architectures similar to those of real bones. Here we studied a kinetic model to describe ampicillin release from HA. In the course of adsorption experiment, ampicillin was dissolved, maintained at 30°C and shaken at 60 strokes/minute. Samples were withdrawn periodically for analysis and then returned to the mixture. Adsorbed amounts were measured by the difference of the concentration of the antibiotics before and after adsorption using UV adsorption at 225 nm. The aim of this work was to evaluate its application as ampicillin delivery carrier.

Abstract: purpose: evaluate the different types of conduction blocks obtained between inferior vena cava-tricuspid annulus (posterior isthmus) and between tricuspid annulus-coronary sinus ostium (septal isthmus) after radiofrequency (rf) catheter ablation of atrial flutter (afl) methods: in 16 procedures, 14 patients (pts), 9 male, with type i afl underwent rf ablation. atrial activation around tricuspid annulus was performed with a 10-bipole "halo" catheter (h1-2; h19-20). in sinus rhythm, isthmus conduction was evaluated during proximal coronary sinus (pcs) and low lateral right atrium (h1-2) pacing, before and after linear ablation. according to the wave front of impulse propagation we assessed absence of block (bidirectional conduction); incomplete block (bidirectional conduction with delay in one front of impulse propagation) and complete block (absence of conduction). the pcs/h1-2 interval was measured before and after ablation. results: complete isthmus block was achieved in 7 (44%) and incomplete block in 4 (25%) procedures. conduction block was not achieved in 5 procedures. at a mean follow-up of 12 months, there were no recurrences in the pts with complete block, whereas afl recurred in the 6 pts with incomplete or no conduction block (p<0.001). pts with complete block had dpcs/h1-2 interval (74.0 ± 26.0ms) greater than incomplete (30.5 ± 7.5ms) or absent block (p<0.05). conclusion: the verification of complete isthmus conduction block with atrial multipolar mapping is an effective strategy to assess electrophysiological success and absence of late recurrence in common atrial flutter ablation.

Abstract: brucellosis is a chronic zoonosis that plays an important role in public health. considering the lack of data in brazil regarding its presence in raw milk and non-pasteurized dairy products, we determined the presence of brucellae in milk from brucellosis positive animals. the slide agglutination test (sat), tube agglutination test (tat) and tat treated with 2-mercaptoethanol were used to identify positive animals in studied herds. for 3 days, 300 ml milk samples/cow (75 ml/teat) were collected from all productive quarters of the positive animals. these were mixed and centrifuged. part of the pellet and of the supernatant were inoculated in farrel and brodie-sinton (bs) media supplemented with antimicrobial agents. the inoculated plates and tubes were incubated at 37oc for 7 days, with 10 per cent co2 atmosphere. the suspected bacterial growth in bs media was immediately cultivated in agar brucella media, under the same conditions. colonies were submitted to identification procedures including gram stain, co2 requirement, h2s production, urease activity and growth in the presence of thionin and fuchsin. of the 49 analysed samples, 15 (30.61%) contained brucella abortus. the distribution was as follows: biotype 1 in one sample (2.04%), biotype 2 in eight (16.32%) and biotype 3 in six samples (12.25%).
