Synthesis of Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), and Mn(II) Complexes with Ciprofloxacin and Their Evaluation of Antimicrobial, Antioxidant and Anti-Tubercular Activity  [PDF]

Abstract: Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Mn(II) complexes synthesized by reflux of 6-bromo-3-(3-(4-chlorophenyl)acryloyl)-2H- chromen-2-one, Ciprofloxacin and various transition metal. 1H, 13C, IR and ESI Mass confirm the formation of ligand. The metal complexes were characterized on the basis of various spectroscopic techniques like IR studies and elemental analysis while the geometry of complexes was octahedral which is confirmed by electronic spectra and thermogravimetric analysis. The compounds were subjected to antimicrobial, antioxidant and anti-tubercular activity screening using serial broth dilution method and Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) is determined. Mn(II) complex has shown significant antifungal activity with an MIC of 6.25 μg/ml while Cu(II) complex is noticeable for antibacterial activity at the same concentration. Anti-TB activity of the ligand has enhanced on complexation with Ni(II) and Co(II) ions. While Ni(II) complex shows superior antioxidant activity than other complexes.

Abstract: A transparent polymer based solar cell was designed and fabricated to utilize the solar energy when exposed to sunlight. The transparent solar cell for window module was composed of a polymeric material PPV (Polyphenylene vinylene), ITO (Indium Tin Oxide) and electrode (Al, Mg, Ca). The polymeric sheet of this cell is by casting process, and electrode is applied on it by CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) process. The solar energy collected by this window can be used to power up small household electrical appliances. Recently, polymeric solar cell is made by a roll-to-roll process without using indium-tin oxide (ITO). A commercially available kapton (Polyimide) foil with an over layer of copper was used as the substrate. Sputtering of titanium metal on to the kapton/copper in a vacuum metalizing process gave the monolithic substrate and back electrode for the devices. The active layer was slot-die coated on to the kapton/Cu/Ti foil followed by slot-die coating of a layer of PET, PC or PEN.
Spectrophotometric estimation of cefotaxime and ceftriaxone in pharmaceutical dosage forms

Abstract: A simple, sensitive, accurate and rapid spectrophotometric method has been developed for the estimation of cefotaxime and ceftriaxone using Folin-Ciocalteu reagent in presence of 20% sodium carbonate solution. The blue colour chromogen formed is measured at wavelength of maximum absorption 752 nm and 750 nm for cefotaxime and ceftriaxone respectively against reagent blank. The chromogen obeyed linearity over 5.0 to 60 μg/ml for cefotaxime, and 2.0 to 36 μg/ml for ceftriaxone. The results of analysis have been validated statistically and by recovery studies.
Simultaneous spectrophotometric estimation of Ciprofloxacin and Ornidazole in tablets

Abstract: Two simple, sensitive, rapid, accurate and economical methods were developed for the estimation of ciprofloxacin and ornidazole in two-component solid dosage form. First method is based on the simultaneous equation, and second method is based on Q-analysis (absorbance ratio method). Ciprofloxacin has absorbance maxima at 271.4 nm, and ornidazole has absorbance maxima at 320 nm in distilled water. The linearity was obtained in the concentration range of 2-10 μg/ml for ciprofloxacin and 2-20 μg/ml for ornidazole. In the first method, the concentrations of the drugs were determined by using simultaneous equations; and in the second method, the concentrations of the drugs were determined by using ratio of absorbances at isoabsorptive point and at the λmax of one of the drugs. The results of analysis have been validated statistically and by recovery studies.
Spectrophotometric methods for the estimation of Cephalexin in tablet dosage forms

Abstract: Two simple, sensitive, accurate, rapid, and economical spectrophotometric methods, have been developed for the estimation of cephalexin in tablets. Method A is based on the reaction of cephalexin with Folin-Ciocalteu reagent, in presence of 20% sodium carbonate solution, giving a blue colour chromogen, which shows maximum absorbance at 753 nm against reagent blank, while method B is based on the estimation of cephalexin in distilled water, at 263 nm. Beer′s law was obeyed in the concentration range of 10-160 μg/ml in method A, and 5-50 μg/ml in method B. Results of the analysis were validated statistically, and by recovery studies.
Visible spectrophotometric methods for the estimation of metoclopramide hydrochloride in tablets

Abstract: Two simple, sensitive, accurate, and rapid visible spectrophotometric methods have been developed for the estimation of metoclopramide hydrochloride in tablets. Method A is based on the reaction of drug with 4-dimethyl amino-benzaldehyde (Ehrlich reagent) to yield a yellow colour Schiff′s base, which shows maximum absorbance at 438 nm against reagent blank, while method B is based on diazotisation of primary amine group of metoclopramide hydrochloride with sodium nitrite and hydrochloric acid followed by coupling with β-napthol (in alkaline medium) to form a red colour dye, which shows maximum absorbance at 553 nm against reagent blank. Beer′s law was obeyed in the concentration range of 10-100 μg/ml in method A and 1-10 μg/ml in method B. Results of the analysis were validated statistically and by recovery studies.
Simultaneous spectrophotometric estimation of imipramine hydrochloride and chlordiazepoxide in tablets

Abstract: A binary mixture of imipramine HCl and chlordiazepoxide was determined by three different spectrophotometric methods. The first method involved determination of imipramine HCl and chlordiazepoxide using the simultaneous equations and the second method involved absorbance ratio method. Imipramine has absorbance maxima at 251 nm, chlordiazepoxide has absorbance maxima at 264.5 nm and isoabsorptive point is at 220 nm in methanol. Linearity was obtained in the concentration ranges of 1-25 and 1-10 μg/ml for Imipramine HCL and Chlordiazepoxide, respectively. The third method involved determination of these two drugs using the first-derivative spectrophotometric technique at 219 and 231.5 nm over the concentration ranges of 1-20 and 2-24 μg/ml with mean accuracies 99.46±0.78 and 101.43±1.20%, respectively. These methods were successively applied to pharmaceutical formulations because no interferences from the tablet excipients were found. The suitability of these methods for the quantitative determination of the compounds was proved by validation.
High performance thin layer chromatographic method for estimation of linezolid in tablets

Abstract: A simple and sensitive high performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) method has been developed for the quantitative estimation of linezolid in its single component tablet formulations (600 mg). Linezolid was chromatographed on Silica Gel 60 F254 TLC plate using methanol: benzene (2:8 v/v) as mobile phase. Linezolid showed Rf value 0.45 + 0.03 and scanned at 258 nm using a Camag TLC scanner 3. The method was validated in terms of linearity (200-1400 ng/spot), precision (intra-day variation, 0.75 to 1.26% and inter-day variation, 1.2 to 2.8%), accuracy (97.8 to 100.4%) and specificity. The limit of detection and limit of quantification for linezolid were found to be 16.7 ng/spot and 50.7 ng/spot, respectively. The developed method was successfully used for the assay of linezolid tablet formulations. The method was found to be simple, sensitive, specific, accurate and precise and can be used for the routine quality control testing of linezolid marketed formulations.

Abstract: Chinese utilities as well as those worldwide are facing increased demand for additional electricity, reduced plant emissions and greater efficiency. To meet this challenge will require increasing boiler temperature, pressure and coal ash corrosion resistance of the materials of boiler construction of future coal-fired boilers. A new nickel-based tube alloy, INCONELR alloy 740, is described aiming at meeting this challenge. Emphasis will be on describing the alloy's mechanical properties, coal-ash and steam corrosion resistance. Microstructural stability as a function of temperature and time is addressed as well as some of the early methodology employed to arrive at the current chemical composition.
