Estimation of Mandibular Premolar Teeth Length and Mesiodistal Width Based on Panoramic Radiograph

Abstract: Statement of Problem: In diagnostic studies of dentistry, estimation of the mesiodistal width of the unerupted teeth and the required space for their eruption in relation to the space analysis and evaluation of the root-crow ratio is of great importance. Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the ratio between the real and radiographic length and mesiodistal width of mandibular premolars and provide a formula for prediction of the teeth length and mesiodistal width.Materials and Method: Fifty six extracted teeth of mandibular first and second premolars of patients and their panoramic radiographs with good quality were collected. The extracted teeth were divided into four groups: T34 (lower left first premolar), T44 (lower right first premolar), T35 (lower left second premolar), and T45 (lower right second premolar). Then the length and mesiodistal width of both the panoramic images and the extracted teeth were measured. All of the obtained data were analyzed through t-test, two tailed student and linear regression model.Results: It was shown that the vertical magnification of the mandibular first premolars was almost 11.4%-12.1% and that of the mandibular second premolar was almost 16%. The horizontal magnification of the mandibular first premolar was almost 15% and that of the mandibular second premolar was almost 26%. No statistically significant differences were found between the true and radiographic length and mesiodistal width and the magnifications of the left side premolars compared with right side premolars. To determine the real mesiodistal width and length size, some equations are introduced.Conclusion: The panoramic radiographs taken in this research by X-ray imaging machine are feasible and reliable for estimating the actual premolar teeth length and mesiodistal width using specific equations for each teeth in the lower jaw.
Ameloblastomatous calcifying odontogenic cyst; a case report

Abstract: Introduction: Calcifying odontogenic cyst (COC) is an uncommon developmental odontogenic cyst first described by Gorlin in 1962. It is considered as extremely rare and accounts for only 1% of jaw cysts reported. Because of its diverse histopathology, there has always been confusion about its nature as a cyst, neoplasm or hamartoma.Case Report: In this report, we present a rare case of calcifying odontogenic cyst with ameloblastic proliferation, an extremely rare histologic variant, in a 15 year old female in the left mandibular molar region. The lesion was surgically removed. After enucleation and curettage, no recurrence recorded in next two years.Conclusion: Ameloblastomatous calcifying odontogenic cyst, microscopically resembles unicystic ameloblastoma except for the ghost cells and dystrophic calcifications within the proliferative epithelium. There has always been confusion about its nature as a cyst, neoplasm or hamartoma. Microscopically, this cyst shows ameloblastic proliferation in the connective tissue but no characteristics of basal cell hyperchromatism, vacuolization and nuclear polarization which is often seen in ameloblastoma, are present here. Ameloblastoma ex COC and ameloblastomatous COC are morphologically and clinically entirely different and easily distinguishable.Key words: Calcifying odontogenic cyst, Ghost cell, Gorlin Cyst, Ameloblastic proliferation
Synthesis of Nano-Structured Polyaniline by Direct Emulsion Polymerization

Abstract: A direct emulsion process was performed for the synthesis of an emeraldine salt of polyaniline (PANI) using a novel surfactant, namely cetyl dimethyl ammonium phenyl chloride (CDAPhCl). HCl was used as dopant and potassium persulfate(KPS)was used as an oxidizing agent. Variation of polymer yield was recorded using conventional gravimetric method and resulting polymer salt was analyzed by FTIR. Average particle size and latex morphology was studied using dynamic light scattering (DLS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).Furthermore, the influence of the reaction time followed by polymer yield on the conductivity of resulted PANIsalt was investigated. SEM images showed a nanostructured polyaniline and conductivity of the polyaninle film found to be 1.65 S cm-1.
Radiographic evaluation of the mental foramen in a selected Iranian population

Abstract: Background: Information on the position of the mental foramen is important for dental surgeons. Variations in its position can be a cause of complications during local anesthesia or surgical procedures. The usual position of the mental foramen in an Iranian population has not been previously reported. Aims: The purpose of this study was to determine the most common location of the mental foramen in an Iranian population. We also analyzed gender differences and the symmetry of location within individuals. Materials and Methods : 400 panoramic radiographs were evaluated with regard to the location and symmetry of the mental foramina in male and female subjects. Results : We found that the mental foramen was located between the first and second premolars in 47.2% of patients and in line with the second premolar in 46%. In 49.2% of males, the mental foramen was in line with the second premolar. In 50.9% of females it was between the first and second premolars. It was symmetrical in 85.7%. Conclusions : Based on this study it appears that the most common position of mental foramen is either between the two premolars or in line with the second premolar. This is in concordance with previous studies.
Radiographic evaluation of apical root resorption following fixed orthodontic treatment

Abstract: Background and Aims: Apical root resorption is an adverse side effect of fixed orthodontic treatment which cannot be repaired. The aim of this study was to use panoramic radiographs to compare the root resorption before and after the orthodontic treatment with standard edgewise .018 appliance.Materials and Methods: The before and after treatment panoramic views of sixty-three patients needed fixed orthodontic treatment included 1520 teeth were categorized into 3 Grades (G0: without resorption, G1: mild resorption with blunt roots or ≤ 1/4 of root length, G2: moderate to severe resorption or > 1/4 to 1/2 of root length. Relationship between root resorption and sex and treatment duration was analyzed with Mann-whitney and Spearman's correlation coefficient, respectively.Results: The findings showed that 345 teeth were categorized as Grade 1. Grade 2 of root resorption was not found in this study. The highest amount of root resorption was recorded for the mandibular lateral incisor. In both gender, the root resorption of the mandible was more than that of the maxilla. The males showed significantly higher rate of resorption than the females (P<0.05). Root resorption was not significantly related to the treatment duration and the side of the jaws (P>0.05).Conclusion: The mandible and male patients showed higher amount of root resorption. In addition, root resorption was not related to the treatment duration and the side of the jaws.
The role of prophylactic ibuprofen and N-acetylcysteine on the level of cytokines in periapical exudates and the post-treatment pain

Abstract: To evaluate the role of prophylactic ibuprofen and N-acetylcysteine (NAC) on the levels of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF- α), interleukin- 6(IL-6) and IL-17 and post-treatment pain level in chronic periapical lesions.Eighty patients with chronic apical lesions less than 1?cm were randomly assigned to receive NAC tablets (400?mg), ibuprofen tablets (400?mg), NAC (400?mg)/ibuprofen (200?mg) combination and placebo 90 minutes prior to sampling. Periapical exudates were collected from root canals. TNF- α, IL-6 and IL-17 levels were determined by ELISA and post-treatment pain was assessed using a visual analog scale (VAS).There was a significant difference in IL-6 level between ibuprofen group and placebo (p?=?0.019). Significant difference in IL-17 level was observed between NAC/ibuprofen combination group and placebo (p?=?0.043). Four hours after treatment, a significant difference was observed in VAS pain score between ibuprofen group and placebo (p?=?0.017). Eight hours post-treatment, VAS pain score for NAC group was statistically lower than placebo group (p?=?0.033). After 12 hours VAS pain score showed a significant decrease in NAC group compared to placebo (p?=?0.049).The prophylactic ibuprofen and NAC failed to clearly reflect their effect on cytokines levels in exudates of chronic periapical lesions. On the other hand it seems that NAC can be a substitute for ibuprofen in the management of post endodontic pain.Periapical lesions are inflammatory diseases that develop as result of root canal bacterial infections and may result in periapical bone destruction because of host defensive–microbial disturbances [1,2]. Abstract: Multiferroic BiFe1-xCrxO3 (x = 0.2 and 0.4) ceramics were synthesized in a single phase. The effects of Cr3+ substitution on the crystal structure, dielectric permittivity and leakage current were investigated. Preliminary X-ray structural studies revealed that the samples had a rhombohedral perovskite crystal structure. The dielectric constant ε' significantly increased while the dielectric loss tanδ was substantially decreased with the increase in Cr3+ substitution. The temperature effect on the dielectric properties exhibited an anomaly corresponding to magneto-electric coupling in the samples and was shifted to lower temperatures with the increase in Cr3+ substitution. The leakage current density also reduced in magnitude with the increase in the Cr3+ substitution.

Abstract: We investigate the FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) model and G-CSF (granulocyte colony-stimulating factor) treatment of CN (Cyclical Neutropenia). We collect grey collies and normal dog’s data from CN and analyze the G-CSF treatment. The model develops the dynamics of circulating blood cells before and after the G-CSF treatment. This is quite natural and useful for the collection of laboratory data for investigation. The proposed interventions are practical. This reduces the quantity of G-CSF required for potential maintenance. This model gives us good result in treatment. The changes would be practical and reduce the risk side as well as the cost of treatment in G-CSF.
