Implicit Attitudes of Chinese University Students towards Altruism: Evidence from Single Category Implicit Association Test  [PDF]

Abstract: IAT measures are supposed to be able to remove the effects that come from people’s natural tendency to believe that they have socially desirable traits. In the present study, the Single Category Implicit Association Test (SC-IAT) was used to explore implicit attitudes and self-images of Chinese university students with respect to altruism. Three kinds of altruism (general altruism, kin altruism and reciprocal altruism) were considered to detect the participants’ implicit attitudes and self-images. Specific wording was incorporated in the SC-IAT measures to explore whether the students believed that apparent altruism in others was honest or hypocritical. The results show: 1) Chinese students generally hold positive implicit attitudes towards kin, reciprocal, and general altruism, but the positive attitudes towards reciprocal and kin altruism are significantly stronger than towards general altruism. 2) Chinese students regard themselves neither as altruistic nor selfish in their implicit self-concepts. 3) Chinese students tend to judge altruism as honest rather than hypocritical behavior, especially in the cases of kin and reciprocal altruism.
Analysis of Strategic Emerging Industrial Policies on the Level of Central Government in China  [PDF]

40 samples are selected from the collected China’s strategic emerging industry (SEI) policies on the level of central government from 2010 to 2013, and policy content analysis is applied to conduct a textual and quantitative research on them. Through constructing a two-dimensional analytical framework of “industry development dimension” and “policy support dimension”, this paper makes a statistical analysis on the frequency of certain words counts in China's SEI policies. The results show that China's SEI policies are characterized as focused keywords, innovation as the first key element, excessive planning and insufficiency of demand-based policy.

A Hybrid Differential Evolution and Tree Search Algorithm for the Job Shop Scheduling Problem

Abstract: The job shop scheduling problem (JSSP) is a notoriously difficult problem in combinatorial optimization. In terms of the objective function, most existing research has been focused on the makespan criterion. However, in contemporary manufacturing systems, due-date-related performances are more important because they are essential for maintaining a high service reputation. Therefore, in this study we aim at minimizing the total weighted tardiness in JSSP. Considering the high complexity, a hybrid differential evolution (DE) algorithm is proposed for the problem. To enhance the overall search efficiency, a neighborhood property of the problem is discovered, and then a tree search procedure is designed and embedded into the DE framework. According to the extensive computational experiments, the proposed approach is efficient in solving the job shop scheduling problem with total weighted tardiness objective. 1. Introduction The job shop scheduling problem (JSSP) has been known as a very stubborn combinatorial optimization problem since the 1950s. In terms of computational complexity, JSSP is -hard in the strong sense [1]. Therefore, even for very small JSSP instances, it is by no means easy to guarantee the optimal solution. In recent years, the metaheuristics—such as genetic algorithm (GA) [2, 3], tabu search (TS) [4, 5], particle swarm optimization (PSO) [6, 7], and ant colony optimization (ACO) [8, 9]—have clearly become the research focus in practical optimization methods for solving JSSPs. Remarkably, most recent research concentrates on the hybridization of two or more heuristics to solve JSSP. For example, ACO is hybridized with TS in [10]; GA is hybridized with VND (variable neighborhood decent) in [11]; a hybrid algorithm based on PSO, VNS (variable neighborhood search), and SS (scatter search) is proposed in [12] for solving a biobjective JSSP. The underlying motivation for constructing hybrid algorithms is that different search mechanisms and neighborhood structures are usually complementary to each other (i.e., when one fails, the other may be effective). Therefore, a combination of several optimizers is likely to promote the probability of finding optimal solutions. A common strategy is to hybridize an algorithm good at large-scale exploration (diversification) with an algorithm good at fine-scale exploitation (intensification), which provides reliable searching ability for tackling complex solution spaces. Abstract: Most existing research on the job shop scheduling problem has been focused on the minimization of makespan (i.e., the completion time of the last job). However, in the fiercely competitive market nowadays, delivery punctuality is more important for maintaining a high service reputation. So in this paper, we aim at solving job shop scheduling problems with the total weighted tardiness objective. Several dispatching rules are adopted in the Giffler-Thompson algorithm for constructing active schedules. It is noticeable that the rule selections for scheduling consecutive operations are not mutually independent but actually interrelated. Under such circumstances, a probabilistic model-building genetic algorithm (PMBGA) is proposed to optimize the sequence of selected rules. First, we use Bayesian networks to model the distribution characteristics of high-quality solutions in the population. Then, the new generation of individuals is produced by sampling the established Bayesian network. Finally, some elitist individuals are further improved by a special local search module based on parameter perturbation. The superiority of the proposed approach is verified by extensive computational experiments and comparisons.
An Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm for the Job Shop Scheduling Problem with Random Processing Times

Abstract: Due to the influence of unpredictable random events, the processing time of each operation should be treated as random variables if we aim at a robust production schedule. However, compared with the extensive research on the deterministic model, the stochastic job shop scheduling problem (SJSSP) has not received sufficient attention. In this paper, we propose an artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm for SJSSP with the objective of minimizing the maximum lateness (which is an index of service quality). First, we propose a performance estimate for preliminary screening of the candidate solutions. Then, the K-armed bandit model is utilized for reducing the computational burden in the exact evaluation (through Monte Carlo simulation) process. Finally, the computational results on different-scale test problems validate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed approach.
Effect of acupuncture serum on intracellular Ca2+ concentration in cultured neurons

Abstract: Objective: To study the humoral factor of acupuncture in improving functional activities of the organism. Methods: Neurons of the cerebral cortex from the new born rats were taken to be cultured in a strictly controlled medium. Seven to ten days later, fluorescein-molecular probe Fluo-3AM was used for staining intracellular Ca2+. Ca2+concentration and its changes after application of acupuncture serum were measured by using a laser confocal microscope. Normal serum and acupuncture serum were derived from the normal control rats and the rats undergoing electro-acupuncture of "Baihui (GV 20)", "Zusanli (ST 36)", "Quchi (LI 11)" and "Sanyinjiao (SP 6)" for 2 weeks. Results: After application of normal serum, the intracellular Ca2+concentration increased strikingly immediately at the beginning, and gradually got stable afterwards. When acupuncture serum was added to the culture fluid, Ca2+concentration lowered significantly. Conclusion: These results suggest that bioactive substances in serum collected from rats undergoing acupuncture can affect the intracellular Ca2+ concentration of the cerebral neurons, and the humoral factor may participate in the effect of acupuncture in regulating functional activities of the organism.

Through reforming, students’ comprehensive practical ability was improved, comprehensive quality education was really carried out in the course of teaching, and adaptability to the need of the society had been enhanced. The practice teaching innovation plays positive exemplary role for practice innovation and construction of similar undergraduate course.

The Pitch Control Algorithm of Wind Turbine Based on Fuzzy Control and PID Control  [PDF]

Due to the special features of great inertia, pure lag and non-linearity provided with wind turbine, coupled with complex and variable working condition, it is difficult to achieve satisfactory control results simply by employing traditional PID, which has the drawbacks such as adjustment inconvenience, poor anti-interference, and large overshoot, and prolonged adjust span. This paper puts forward one type of improved controller combining Fuzzy Control with PID Control. With larger speed deviation, the controller emphasizes Fuzzy Control to speed system response; with less speed deviation, the controller emphasizes PID Control to improve control accuracy. Simulation Test directing at the algorithm is based on the Bladed software, with the positive result of improved dynamic and static performance of wind turbine under large disturbance.

It is known that the Ramsey number R(K4 -e, K6) = 21, and the planar Ramsey numbers PR(K4 - e, Kl) for l ≤ 5 are known. In this paper, we give the lower bounds on PR (K4 ? e, Kl) and determine the exact value of PR (K4 - e, K6).
