Abstract: aiming to analyze and characterize the scientific production in cuba as well as another iberoamerican countries, the total production done by each country was determined in the pubmed database, as well as the percentage published in each national journal and in the english language. in the case of cuba, a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the evolution was also done, also the nowadays state and the future perspectives of the scientific production in the stated database.

Abstract: library, documentary and information services are approached from a theoretical and historic perspective, considering their essence, evolution and present state. the high value-added, tailor-made, and knowledge-oriented information services are defined. the supply of information services with these characteristics is a basic precedent to obtain a high impact in a users' community and in society in general. today, diverse generations of services directed to the satisfaction of the various needs of information of the users coexist in a library.

Abstract: some basic elements of theoretical character that are useful to understand, above all, from the psychological point of view, the expert?s evaluations, which are one of the most used forms to select serials in the setting of medical libraries, are approached. the cognitive and affective processes, as well as those of the activity are studied aimed at explaining their influence on the results of the evaluations given by the specialists in a specific area of knowledge and the ways to reduce the negative effects produced by the defects inherent to the own psychological processes intervening in the activity of evaluation.

Abstract: the current decade is characterized by the ocurrence of significant changes in the information-librarian sectors. the main trends that harmonize the change of work approches of the organizations, in general, and of the information institutions, in particular, are identified. with this aim, a number of documentary sources belonging to the industry and trade sectors and also to the health and information sector were consulted. the main trends that were found are as follows: the development of a powerful technological infraestructure; the adoption of a marketing approach in the activity; the supply of informations products and services of a high added value; the assessment of information products and services; the functional design of the organization; the reorganization of human resources; the introduction of a management concept; the creation of quality systems; the forming of funds and the organization of resources oriented to the user as well as the development of permanent education and researches. the trends found constitute a model to the development of the educational activity in the sector.

Abstract: the assessment by experts constitutes a study modality of the scientific literature with a broad use by the selectors of primary serial publications at the information institutes. however, the way in which such assessments have been carried out traditionally generates results that, in many occassions, have a predominantly subjective character and therefore are of doubtful validity for its application in the context of information scientific activity. the assessment by experts is analyzed as a tool of vital importance for the selecting activity of scientific publications with special emphasis on the limitative elements in its way of traditional fulfiment. finally, it is proposed a new methodology for its carrying out.

Abstract: the general search engines are search tools the most popular on the web. perhaps for this reason too they are in many academic circles. however, there is often an incorrect operation of these tools, both for the place where they are located in all available information resources in a discipline, as underemployment of the facilities offered by their interfaces. for this reason, we need to know some basics for better jobs. it made a brief reference to the use of general and specialized academic search engines in health. it is not acceptable to say that search engines are inadequate tools for finding health information. except that every action has a purpose, design and contents, led to a potential user community and in keeping with this should be used.

Abstract: the specialized literature was reviewed aimed at systematizing a set of useful theoretical elements to obtain general definitions of the categories comprising the philosophical-conceptual system of the term information,. the basic knowledges contributing to understand reflection as the universal property of matter that sustains information, knowledge and communication are shown. the conceptual foundations defining the system terms that make up the information category are also explained. a set of considerations are made of the definitions of each term, in special, of the information concept. the notions offered on this topic by different authors are analyzed. the approaches made are a support to obtain general definitions of the concepts of the philosophical system comprising the "information" category and widen significantly the scope that has been traditionally granted to its components.

Abstract: work with internet has just begun in cuba. its access that is still limited, promises to reach progressively the main health institutions of the country. this fact will largely benefit the professional activity in this sector. however, the correct exploitation of the information resources that may be used via internet is complex and laborious. the purpose of this paper is to offer a brief introductory explanation about some of the most used elements to those readers who do not have the knowledge or the complete access to the greatest information network of the world yet. some details about the creation of internet, its basic services, as well as a series of considerations on its significance for scientific communication in general and for the health sector in particular are exposed.
