Abstract: Introduction: Late-life depression is one of the most frequent disorders among the seniors and often remains unrecognized. One of the reasons why late-life depression often passes unrecognized is the comorbidity. Hearing and visual impairments are very common condition among the elderly. Thus, depression among the elderly is commonly accompanied by hearing and visual impairment. The epidemiology together with the visual and hearing-related problems still remains poorly investigated. Objective: The aim of the study was to evaluate the relationship between hearing and visual function and the late-life depression. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study with a random sample of 120 participants, 60 patients with late-life depression and 60 community-dwelling older adults aged over 60 and without the symptoms of depression. All participants were examined using a questionnaire designed for the aim of the study to measure the severity of the symptoms (scale with scores from 1 to 3 - from mild to profound degree) of self-reported hearing and visual impairment. In addition, existing medical records and the Geriatric Depression Scale were used as well. Results: The patients with late-life depression in larger number suffered from hearing and visual impairment compared to the non - depressed elderly people: hearing impairments (χ2=6.97, df=1, p=0.0083) and visual impairments (χ2=4.37, df=2, p=0.012).Conclusion: These data suggest that the risk of late-life depression is higher among elderly patients with hearing and visual impairment. A comprehensive annual eye exam is the most important step that can be undertaken to help monitor and protect normal visual function in the elderly. It is necessary to conduct routine screening and early treatment of depression in elderly patients with hearing and visual impairment within the primary care practice. Ophthalmologists and otologists should be aware of the need for routine screening for geriatric syndromes in the eye and otology clinics.

Abstract: The current study was aimed at examining the risk factors in 30 patients with Alzheimer's dementia and 30 patients with vascular dementia. The reports of the caregivers and the medical documentation were used to estimate the risk factors. The condition for the patients to enter this study was the age above 60 years. The results showed that the average age in the patients with dementia of the Alzheimer type was statistically significantly higher than in the patients with vascular dementia (p<0.0043), which is the confirmation that the most potential risk factor for Alzheimer's disease is aging, and for vascular dementia it is an additional factor. The incomplete education is more common in patients with Alzheimer's disease than in the group with vascular dementia and the difference had statistical significance (p=0.0199). The patients with vascular dementia have higher rate of heart disease (p=0.0002), hypertension (p=0.0005) and diabetes mellitus (p=0.0228) than in the group with Alzheimer's disease with a statistically significant difference. In regard to marital status, head injury and smoking, the difference had no significance in either groups.

Pakistan Journal of Nutrition , 2012,
Abstract: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of adding “Tape Singkong” juice on the characteristic of fermented milk. In the study 4000 ml of milk was used and divided into 20 cups (200 ml/cup). A completely randomized design that consist of five treatments with four replications was used to analyze the data. The treatment are the giving tape singkong juice as much as 0% (A), 22.5% (B), 5% (C), 7.5% (D) and 10% (E) into the milk that contained 2% of Lactobacillus acidophilus. The variable was observed the characteristic of fermented milk that consist of the moisture, fat, lactose and alcohol content, acidity and bacteria colony count. The result of this research indicated that the addition of tape singkong juice up to 7.5% was significantly decreased the content of moisture, fat and lactose and increased acidity, alcohol content and bacteria colony count.

Abstract: Necessity for innovative production development sets the new requirements for content, organization, forms and methods of management activity. Non-traditional tasks faced by the present system of human resources management require the similar type of non-traditional methodological approaches and tools for social diagnosis, training and management of people in new situations. Therefore special attention should be also given to development of new type training centers that act as concentration of continuous training through forming the networks of comparative analysis and detecting the best practice.
