Pauli, Sueli Cristina De;Rossetti-Ferreira, Maria Clotilde;
Cadernos de Pesquisa , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-15742009000300010
Abstract: the objective of this work is to present the results of a brief bibliographic review concerning the common idea that adopted children often experience difficulties in school learning. studies of how difficulties in learning arise in adopted children are quite scarce both in brazil and internationally. some of the few researches found make direct reference to the problems in learning for these children - usually relating these difficulties to the length of time children are in institutions. the literature in educational psychology has previously identified some symptoms associated with adoption - for example, problems in ego strength, low self-esteem, reduced intellectual functioning associated with behavioral problems, hyperactivity, and deficits in attention. however, these problems are not described with either depth or reliability. this suggests that there is a shortage, a vacuum of knowledge, requiring the execution of specific studies, which might make visible the actual magnitude of learning difficulties among adopted children and as well illuminate the factors that contribute (or that do not contribute) to these symptoms.

Amorim, Katia de Souza;Rossetti-Ferreira, Maria Clotilde;
Paidéia (Ribeir?o Preto) , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-863X2008000200003
Abstract: in the construction of a theoretical-methodological instrument, aimed to understand and investigate relational and situated human developmental processes, the notion of dialogism was reached. seeking to make this notion more explicit, a bibliographical review and reading of bakhtinian propositions were carried out and presented in this study. theoretical-methodological issues and practical implications were raised during the analysis, which appoint to issues like the place of the otherness in the self and human development. a series of issues concerning the research process is discussed. finally, a mother-infant interactional episode is analyzed through the concept of dialogism. the analysis appoints to the need of considering the body in the investigation process. it also indicates the search for language notion that goes beyond its verbal dimension and re-conceptualization of culture as discursive practice.
Tornar-se pai e m?e em um processo de ado??o tardia
Costa, Nina Rosa do Amaral;Rossetti-Ferreira, Maria Clotilde;
Psicologia: Reflex?o e Crítica , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-79722007000300010
Abstract: a new culture of adoption emerges in brazil, which searches a family for a child, instead of a child for a family. this proposal holds new family, maternity and paternity projects. in it, new meanings are attributed to being father and mother, distinct from the traditional consanguinity model. late adoptions are clearly inserted in this context. to understand the processes of building adoptive motherhood and fatherhood in those circumstances, it is important to investigate the meanings produced while becoming father/mother. this paper focuses on the discursive production of a couple when interviewed at home, during the late adoption process of two sisters (4 and 5y.o.). the meanings produced in the conversation are presented, on answering the question on how it was to be father or mother at that moment. the analysis points towards the specificities of becoming father/mother during late adoption, the difficult and fragile construction of bonds and the need for post-adoptive support.
Costa, Nina Rosa do Amaral;Rossetti-Ferreira, Maria Clotilde;
Psicologia: Reflex?o e Crítica , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-79722009000100015
Abstract: foster care of children and adolescents who have had their rights violated is being discussed both in the scientific literature and in agencies involved in the development of public policies. such discussions, which aim to define some guidelines to guarantee the right to family and community inclusion, expose a field under change. this paper focuses on foster care in the brazilian context and presents it as one of the possible alternatives for children and adolescents in risk situations. the (mis)leading influences of some theoretical perspectives that deal with affective bonds in foster care are also discussed. it is argued that a new foster culture requires changes in the conceptions of infancy and youth, in the meanings of affectionate bonds, and in welfare policies for children and adolescents.
Mariano, Fernanda Neísa;Rossetti-Ferreira, Maria Clotilde;
Psicologia: Reflex?o e Crítica , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-79722008000100002
Abstract: the adoption of children needs to be studied in its legal, psychological, social and cultural aspects. the purpose of this study is to characterize the children, the birth and adopting families involved in adoption processes in ribeir?o preto - sp, from 1991 to 2000. one-hundred ten judicial processes were analyzed through descriptive statistics. most of the adoptions that prevailed were those of the "ready" type; in which the adopting ones go through the judicial system for the adoption of a child, who they met through mediators or institutions. the adopting families belong to middle and lower classes and have different motivations for the adoption, like infertility and bond established with the child. the biological families belong to the lower classes and make use their social network to support their children. when this help is worn out, they hand their children over for adoption. this study shows the need to understand of the "ready" adoptions as well as what motivates biological families to give a child up for adoption.
Silva, Ana Paula Soares da;Rossetti-Ferreira, Maria Clotilde;
Psicologia: Reflex?o e Crítica , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-79722002000300012
Abstract: the present paper aims to make a critical appraisal of the developmental psychology literature about the practice of criminal acts by individuals across their life span. the linear cause/effect relationship usually embodied in the studies on criminal behavior is questioned. diverse factors and their association with the involvement in criminal acts are analyzed, the need to understand the network of meanings which permeates the movement of continuity or rupture with a criminal trajectory across the life span, in a specific developmental context, is pointed out. we argue that the factors, by themselves, do not contribute for the criminal/non-criminal trajectory, as much as the personal and collective meanings attributed to them. continuity/discontinuity should thus be understood as constructs that comprise of the same developmental event.
