It was found that children born through caesarean section hada higher prevalence of maternal of maternal breastfeeding than those born vaginally.
Estado protrombótico en estadios tempranos de la enfermedad de Chagas crónica: Su asociación con factores de riesgo trombótico
Herrera, Ramón N;Díaz, Elba;Pérez Aguilar, Rossana;Bianchi, Jorge;Berman, Sofía;Luciardi, Héctor L;
Archivos de cardiología de México , 2005,
Abstract: objective: the aim of this study was to explore the presence of prothrombotic state in early stages of chronic chagas' disease with serum markers of thrombosis and fibrinolysis, and to investigate it's association with thrombotic risk factors for venous thromboembolic disease. patients and methods: forty two patients with chronic chagas' disease were compared with 21 healthy volunteers. thrombotic markers used were fragment 1 + 2, atm complex, fibrinogen/fibrin degradation products, d-dimer and β-thromboglobulin. fibrinolysis was evaluated with euglobulin lysis time, tissue plasminogen activator and it's inhibitor levels. a thrombophilic screening was performed. antithrombin and protein c were determined by functional methods, as well as free fraction of protein s, resistance to activated protein c, factor v leiden r506q mutation, prothrombin g20210a mutation, homocysteine and antiphospholipid antibodies: lupus and anticardiolipin antibodies isoforms igg and igm. results: in chronic chagas' disease patients, statistically significant differences were observed in thrombotic markers: fragment 1 + 2 (p < 0.0001), atm complex (p < 0.0001), fibrinogen/fibrin degradation products (p < 0.05) and d-dimer (p < 0.05). β-thromboglobulin did not reach statistically significant difference (p = 0.06). statistically significant differences (p < 0.0001) were found only in euglobulin lysis time, a non specific fibrinolytic marker. specific fibrinolytic markers tissue plasminogen activator and it's inhibitor, however, did not show statistically significant differences among studied groups. conclusions: eighty six percent of patients had positive thrombophilic screening for at least one thrombophilic risk factor. thrombophilic risk factors were inherited in 39% and acquired in 83% of the patients.
Análisis de deleciones en 15 exones situados dentro y fuera del hot spot mutacional del gen de la distrofina en pacientes con distrofia muscular de Duchenne

Revista Ciencias de la Salud , 2009,
Abstract: introduction. duchenne and becker muscular dystrophies (dmd/dmb) are x-linked recessive diseases characterized by progressive muscle weakness and wasting, loss of motor skills and death after the second decade of life. deletions are the most prevalent mutations that affect the dystrophin gene, which spans 79 exons. objective: identify deletions on the dystrophin gene in 58 patients affected with dmd. methods: through multiplex pcr identify deletions on the dystrophin gene in 58 patients with dmd and observe the frequency of this mutation in our population. results: we found deletions in 1.72% of patients (1 of 58 persons). deletions were not the principal cause of disease in our population. it is possible that duplications and point mutations caused this illness in our patients. conclusions: the frequency of deletions in the 15 exons analyzed from the dystrophin gene was low. the predominant types of mutation in our patients` samples were not deletions as has been observed in the literature worldwide, therefore, it is important to determine other types of mutations as are duplications and point mutations.
Sociabilidad, inseguridad y miedos: Una trilogía para pensar la ciudad contemporánea
Reguillo, Rossana;
Alteridades , 2008,
Abstract: in this essay we examine and reflect about the influence of contemporary fears in the uses and perception of urban spaces. observing the anthropomorphic bodies and specific places adjudicated to fears, we discuss the findings of the investigation called "fear as a social construction" (la construcción social del miedo) and its political and social implications.
Saber y poder de representación: la(s) disputa(s) por el espacio interpretativo
Reguillo, Rossana;
Comunicación y sociedad , 2008,
Abstract: the article deals with the analysis of the relations between knowledge and power of representation, which is defined here as the one power that, is able to build and configure visibility and sense of reality, stabilizing some senses on the social world and its operation. i want to locate the discussion in the context of neoliberalism / neo-conservatism, under the assumption that these forms sharpen the dispute over the "ownership" of interpretive space. through two major analyzers (authoritarian representations and therapeutic representations), we discuss some changes in the status of knowledge and forms of legitimacy and the central role of various actors in this play: media communication, schools, and cultural industries, among others.
Las culturas juveniles: un campo de estudio; breve agenda para la discusión
Reguillo, Rossana;
Revista Brasileira de Educa??o , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-24782003000200008
Abstract: the present paper aims to discuss ways by which youth cultures have been presented, from cultural point of view. it argues that youth cultures have mobile and multiple senses, incorporating, mixing and inventing symbols and emblems, in a continual movement that makes it difficult to represent them. we firstly build on the assumption that there is a great diversity within the "youth" category, comprising: students, bands, punks, popular protestant religious people, small businessmen, ravers, unemployed people, "traffic dealers", all being children of the modern age with its crisis and disenchantement; secondly, we take into account the complex and highly changeable contemporary context, in which these young people live. the article is organised in three thematic axes: a) analysis of the discourses of those that have produced knowledge about youth; b) discussion of "new" sceneries of youth cultures, as well as its material and symbolic territories; c) perspectives and challenges that the field of studies concerning youth cultures has been posing to social sciences.

CASTIGLIONI,ROSSANA;
Revista de ciencia política (Santiago) , 2010, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-090X2010000200004
Abstract: in spite of michelle bachelet's high levels of presidential popularity, and similarly high levels of popular approval for the performance of her government, in late 2009 and early 2010 the concertación coalition to which she belongs suffered a historic defeat. the result was an alteration in power, reversing 20 years of consecutive concertación governments. this article analyses the headline social, economic and political events of the electoral campaign that finally produced victory for sebastian pi?era's coalición por el cambio (coalition for change).
Reforma de pensiones en América Latina: orígenes y estrategias, 1980-2002
Castiglioni,Rossana;
Revista de ciencia política (Santiago) , 2005, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-090X2005000200009
Abstract: this research note offers a revision of the structural pension reforms that took place in latin america from 1980 to 2002 and of the main institutional and political explanations of why these countries adopted such dissimilar reform strategies. the revision analyzes the eligibility rules, levels of benefits, and structure of old age, disability and survivability of contributory pension programs. moreover, it examines the main variables that the political science literature identifies when explaining this variation: regime type, the pressure of international financial institutions, the distribution of governmental authority, the ideological positions of the relevant political actors, and the role of veto players.
Thoughts on basic training for the design: relationships with research innovations
Rossana Raiteri
Techne : Journal of Technology for Architecture and Environment , 2011,
Abstract: If research, also in the technology field, produces interesting results, little attention has devoted to education and to the relationship between the first and the second. But the wealth of knowledge now available (even for web accessibility) is profoundly changing the approach to design and, therefore, to university education. This contribution is to open up a debate and to encourage a confrontation on this issue. One critical point concerns the alternation between the conceptualization and the experience throughout the process that must see the student as the protagonist: from first ideas up to the actual execution and to the expected life of what has been designed. This implies that we are favoring a complex approach to simple themes rather than the reverse.
