THE VALUE OF SANCTIONS AS AN INSTRUMENT OF PUNISHMENT INTHE VOCATIONAL TRAINING OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Rosangela Rabello
Ulbra e Movimento : Revista de Educa??o Física , 2010,
Abstract: Freedom of conscience (the last point in the process of development of moral judgments) should be the goal of all education, however, it is important to pass through a stage of heteronomous morality, because it is from the rules, although the source external to the individual, they are placed. The two moral (of heteronomy andautonomy) are essential sources of moral development and that is why we should not neglect any of them. Thus, it is understood that the action of the "other" for the education of man is paramount. Therefore, this article aims to analyze the extent to which punishment serves as a support for the moral development of physical education professional, contributing to the restructuring and rehabilitation of adult moral judgments in specific cases. It was, in addition to achieving this end may also serve to provoke a moral dilemma, triggering the process of moral development and an understanding as to the probable significance of the pedagogical applicability of the penalty for those who suffer it.
Research proposal: evaluation of the ART approach in elderly patients
Rabello, Tiago;
Journal of Applied Oral Science , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S1678-77572006000700007
Abstract: with the increase of life expectancy in the world's population, oral health care of elderly people has attracted considerably more attention over the last years. many elderly may benefit from oral health promotion measures that involve the atraumatic restorative treatment (art) approach. the purpose of this study will be to evaluate, over 3 years of follow-up, the clinical behavior of atraumatic restorations placed in elderly patients. the study will comprise a structured interview, intraoral clinical examination, oral hygiene instructions and the atraumatic restorative treatment. intraoral examination will be carried out as recommended by the world health organization (who). small to medium size class i, ii or v cavities without pulp involvement and spontaneous painful symptomatology will be selected to undergo the atraumatic restorative treatment. the restorations will be evaluated by direct observation at baseline and after 6, 12, 24 and 36 months, using modified usphs criteria. two dentists with training and expertise in the art approach, but who will not participate in the art procedures, will evaluate the restorations.
Acute human schistosomiasis mansoni
Rabello, Ana;
Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz , 1995, DOI: 10.1590/S0074-02761995000200026
Abstract: the acute schistosomiasis is the toxemic disease that follow the schistosoma cercariae active penetration trough screen in the immunologicaly naive vertebrate host. the clinical picture starts two to eight weeks after the first contact with the contaminated water. susceptible patients present a syndrome comprising fever, diarrhea, toxemia and hepatosplenomegaly. diagnosis is based on epidemiological and clinical features, presence of schistosoma eggs in the feces, enlargement of abdominal lymph nodes by ultrasonography and by detection of high antibodies levels against the antigen keyhole limpet haemocyanin. different rates of cure have been observed with specific medication and for the most severe clinical presentations the use of steroids reduces the systemic and allergic manifestations.
A contribui??o da história dos conceitos à ciência da informa??o: dimens?es categórico-abstratas e analítico-causais
Rabello, Rodrigo;
Ciência da Informa??o , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-19652010000300003
Abstract: the history of concepts, albeit still little explored by information science, can provide important contributions for the study of key concepts that constitute the theoretical-conceptual framework in a scientific context. thus, the history of concepts is presented as a tool for the study of diachronic and synchronic features of the scientific concept in information science. for such, it was imperative to understand the intersection of the categorical-abstract and analytical-causal dimensions, both relevant for constituting the very proposition of the history of concepts elaborated by reinhart koselleck.
A Ciência da Informa??o como objeto: epistemologias como lugares de encontro
Rabello, Rodrigo;
Perspectivas em Ciência da Informa??o , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-99362012000100002
Abstract: information science (is) counts on a singular investigative place where interdisciplinarity operates as a device to study phenomena related with its fuzzy object: information. it is one of the causes originating an "identity crisis" reflected in the demarches of validation, along with this productive setting, in epistemic terms of its disciplinarity. in order to introduce spaces where such theoretical efforts are produced, this paper aims to: a) introduce perspectives of analyses, or places of observation, where narratives within the field of is are produced; b) bring a theoretical framework containing explanations and/or controversies illustrating a search for the disciplinary construction of is. for such, three epistemologies were used as analysis categories: i) specific; ii) particular; and iii) global. these categories, taken from hilton japiassu, helped identifying the position of the subject, i.e. the philosopher, as for the study object - in this case, is. the narratives produced within the field have been directed in well defined epistemological spaces, although, at times, they seem to follow a transversal trajectory in intermediate sites, providing productive epistemological meeting spaces.
Diagnosing Schistosomiasis
Rabello Ana
Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz , 1997,
Abstract: The ideal diagnostic method for schistosomiasis detection seems to be still far from available. Paucity of egg output in low prevalence situations, low levels of circulating antigens in individuals with low intensity of infection and inadequate specificity of antibody detection systems outline pieces of a puzzle that challenges scientific efforts. Estimated prevalence, financial resources and operational reality must be taken into account when deciding the diagnostic method to be used. A combination of a screening step, using a fast strip test for antibody detection with a parasitological ratification step such as Kato-Katz repeated stool examination may serve as a diagnostic approach for a previously untreated low level endemic area. However, when eradication is the aim, and high financial investment is available, re-treatment may be based on the association between multiple stool examination and circulating antigen detection. Ethical aspects as well as cost-benefit rates between treatment and diagnosis approaches lead to the conclusion that in spite of the recent advances in simple administered and relatively safe drugs, treatment should only be performed when supported by appropriated diagnosis

Abstract: Background In a previous study, we detected the presence of a Mycobacterium avium species-specific insertion sequence, IS1245, in Mycobacterium kansasii. Both species were isolated from a mixed M. avium-M. kansasii bone marrow culture from an HIV-positive patient. The transfer mechanism of this insertion sequence to M. kansasii was investigated here. Methodology/Principal Findings A linear plasmid (pMA100) was identified in all colonies isolated from the M. avium-M. kansasii mixed culture carrying the IS1245 element. The linearity of pMA100 was confirmed. Other analyses suggested that pMA100 contained a covalently bound protein in the terminal regions, a characteristic of invertron linear replicons. Partial sequencing of pMA100 showed that it bears one intact copy of IS1245 inserted in a region rich in transposase-related sequences. These types of sequences have been described in other linear mycobacterial plasmids. Mating experiments were performed to confirm that pMA100 could be transferred in vitro from M. avium to M. kansasii. pMA100 was transferred by in vitro conjugation not only to the M. kansasii strain from the mixed culture, but also to two other unrelated M. kansasii clinical isolates, as well as to Mycobacterium bovis BCG Moreau. Conclusions/Significance Horizontal gene transfer (HGT) is one of most important mechanisms leading to the evolution and diversity of bacteria. This work provides evidence for the first time on the natural occurrence of HGT between different species of mycobacteria. Gene transfer, mediated by a novel conjugative plasmid, was detected and experimentally reproduced.
Machado de Assis: um homem genial?
Rabello, Ivone Daré;
Journal of Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1676-26492008000400009
Abstract: introduction: this article is derived from the lecture given in september 9th 2008, during the celebration of the "latin american day of epilepsy", which was organized by the brazilian association of epilepsy, under the presidency of doctor laura guilhoto, and took place in the state congress of s?o paulo, at the franco montoro hall. methods: by presenting some aspects of machado de assis' life, the aim here is to understand the structure of brazilian society in the 19th century, as well as the critical unveiling strength of his work. results: the biography of the writer allows us to have a model of a man and an artist, who surpassed his imposed social and personal barriers in a specific historical circumstance, including the relative questions to his health. the effort and the fight of machado de assis are very significant, and we must always remember that until nowadays it is not "natural" to win preconceptions, to move socially or to get equal opportunities. conclusions: the achievements made by machado de assis during his life are exemplary. he has never surrogated, as the "rest of the consecrated personalities" do, which comfortably installed in the fame and surrounded by the conformism, always forget about the problems of the common people.
Privatiza??o, especializa??o e individualiza??o: um outro mundo (acadêmico) é possível?
Castro, Lucia Rabello de;
Psicologia & Sociedade , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-71822010000300023
Abstract: the present work discusses the framework of scientific policies for graduate education in the brazilian context in view of the modes of subjectivization engendered for university researchers/lecturers. privatization, specialization and individualization seem to constitute three main dimensions of these policies establishing collective identifications and actions conducive to an acceptance of the status quo, and to an attitude of 'reconciliation' with the system of scientific development in the country. the paper evokes the place of the intellectual, as seen by russell jacoby and edward said, as a necessary counterpoint to the academic task which has become engulfed today by policies of good management. two issues are brought forward to illustrate the argument: the relation of graduate with undergraduate courses and the internationalization of graduate education.
Juventude e socializa??o política: atualizando o debate
Castro, Lucia Rabello de;
Psicologia: Teoria e Pesquisa , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-37722009000400003
Abstract: the present work analyses from a critical point of view the notion of political socialization and its current issues about the distancing of youth in relation to politics. the political socialization concept is analyzed according to two main aspects: first, it is discussed its assumptions in relation to an identity theory of subjectivity that essentializes subjective positions related to age, and it is based on a developmental perspective on human trajectory. second, it is discussed how political socialization studies presuppose a division between public and private spaces, where the relations of intergenerational transmission are restricted to the private space, and thus, do not take into account youth contribution to the decisions of collective life.
