Abstract: the present study is a descriptive qualitative research that was developed in a clinical surgery unit of a university hospital. one aimed to identify elderly people vulnerability factors related to falls whose consequences were hip fractures. the subjects were thirteen caregivers of elderly patients with hip fractures after falls, hospitalized in the period from april to november 2008. the instruments of data collection were searching the promptuary of the elderly and structured interviews. data were analyzed based on vulnerability referential and were categorized under individual/biological, social and programmatical/institutional dimensions. thus, concluded that the planning of public health professionals should include the individual and collective aspects of this population, to mitigate the incidence of hip fractures after falls.

Abstract: Este estudio tuvo el objetivo de conocer la dinámica del trabajo en un servicio de hemodiálisis del interior de Río Grande do Sur, Brasil, y la percepción de los trabajadores de enfermería acerca de los pacientes en hemodiálisis. Se trata de una investigación en la que se utilizó la entrevista semi-estructurada. La recolección de los datos se hizo de marzo a abril de 2009, de la cual participaron doce trabajadores de enfermería. Se utilizó la técnica del análisis temático para el análisis de los datos. El trabajo de enfermería en el servicio de hemodiálisis posee una dinámica resolutiva, compleja y rutinera. Los trabajadores afirmaron que a los pacientes se les hace difícil aceptar la enfermedad a causa de la dependencia del tratamiento, poseen relaciones sociales y familiares perjudicadas por la enfermedad y buscan esas referencias afectivas en el equipo de enfermería. Se evidencia la complejidad de las relaciones afectivas entre los trabajadores de enfermería y los pacientes en hemodiálisis, así como la necesidad de investigaciones futuras sobre el trabajo en servicios de hemodiálisis.
Gerontological practices in hospital environment: experience report

Abstract: Objective: to raise awareness the family / caregivers and the elderly hospitalized on the aging process, guiding them, to promote the health of this binomial. Methods: this is a descriptive study, an experience report, which resulted from a final paper of the Nursing School in a Federal University in South Brazil, organized into three steps: aging awareness, orientation on the aging process, and daily visit aiming to reassure the orientations. The information was recorded in a field diary. The inclusion criteria were elderly at 60 years old or more who were with a family member/accompanying and who accepted to take part of this study. Results: the sample was composed by 28 seniors and 36 family members/accompanying who took part in moments for experience exchanging and awareness for aging process. Conclusion: the spaces for learning-teaching enable the participants to report their doubts, express their feelings and experiences, also being a space for health education. The experience has provided commitment and responsibility of the nurse regarding senior health care and gerontology.
Night shift pros and cons in nursing: qualitative study

Abstract: Working at the night shift interferes with the worker personally, socially, and with family matters. The objective of the following qualitative research, conducted in a university hospital in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, was to identify the pros and cons faced by nurses in performing nocturnal work. The data collection was made from March to April 2008 through semi-structured interview. The transcription and theme analysis on the data originated pros such as interaction among nursing team and more time availability for personal life; as well as categories for cons, like lack of supporting services and social/work isolation, among others. It is suggested that managers promote collective activities for reflection, stimulating workers to identify benefits and difficulties in the working process, favoring work satisfaction.

Abstract: Este estudo objetivou analisar os fatores de prazer e sofrimento no exercício gerencial do enfermeiro no contexto hospitalar. Trata-se de uma pesquisa exploratório-descritiva com abordagem qualitativa, que utilizou como técnica de coleta a entrevista semiestruturada. Foi realizada em um hospital universitário, e os dados foram analisados mediante análise temática. Os 19 enfermeiros que participaram do estudo revelaram que a gerência é fonte de prazer quando há crescimento pessoal e profissional, reconhecimento dos colegas e satisfa o do paciente; e fonte de sofrimento em fun o das dificuldades de relacionamento com a equipe de trabalho e da sobrecarga de trabalho. Ressalta-se a necessidade de os enfermeiros gerentes compreenderem a dualidade sofrimento e prazer na busca de um trabalho mais construtivo e realizador, por meio de maior articula o da atividade gerencial, com a experiência de vida, além do respaldo institucional e apoio dos colegas de trabalho. Investigación exploratoria-descriptiva con enfoque cualitativo, que utilizó como técnica la entrevista seme-estructurada. Se llevó a cabo en un hospital universitario y los datos fueron examinados utilizando el análisis temático. Los 19 enfermeros que participaron revelaran que la gerencia es una fuente de placer cuando hay crecimiento personal y profesional, reconocimiento y satisfacción en el trabajo, y una fuente de sufrimiento debido a las dificultades de relación con el equipo y la sobrecarga de trabajo. Se evidencia la necesidad de que los enfermeros gerentes entiendan la dualidad sufrimiento y placer de una manera más constructiva y satisfactoria, mediante una mayor coordinación de las actividades gerenciales, con la experiencia de la vida, más allá del respaldo institucional y del apoyo de sus compa eros de trabajo. This study aimed to analyze the factors of pleasure and suffering at work in nursing management in the hospital context. This is an exploratory-descriptive study with qualitative approach, which was used as a technique for collecting semi-structured interview. Abstract: this is an exploratory and descriptive study, with a qualitative approach conducted with nursing professionals of a university hospital. it aimed to search for the meaning of being an elderly person and identify the pleasures and sufferings in taking care of elderly people. the data were collected through a semi-structured survey. the content of the surveys was analyzed by theme analysis. the data were analyzed based on three axes: the meaning of being an elderly patient; factors of pleasure; and factors of suffering in elderly health care. the overcoming of limits, valuing of health care rendered, and experience exchanges gave pleasure to the workers. the suffering of workers happened before situations like abandonment, lack of attention, and brewing death of the elderly people. the organization of supportive groups and spaces for workers to share the pleasure and suffering in elder caretaking.

Abstract: the nurse faces factors that favor and hinder the performance of his work and interfere with the feelings before work. this is an exploratory-descriptive study with a qualitative approach. it aimed to sociodemographically characterize the nurses of the services of health attention of a town in the state of rio grande do sul and to identify the factors that favor and hinder the performance of the work. the data were collected from march to july 2007 through a survey. the sample was composed by 24 nurses. the data analysis enabled two build two theme axes: factors that favor and hinder the performance of nurse work. the results suggest that nurses perceive satisfaction at work. however, it is necessary to rethink the process of work of this professional to strength the actions before the user of single health system's and search for resolutivity before the necessities of the community.

Abstract: one of the perspectives on investigations approaching the area of workers' health is the relationship among work, health and sickening. this study aimed to identify the factors which generate pleasure and suffering to nursing workers in a hemodialysis service. it is a qualitative research which was developed with twelve nursing workers. data collection occurred from march to april of the year 2009. the collections consisted of semi-structured interviews. one used thematic analysis technique for data analysis. one could observe that the factors which generated pleasure at work were: appreciating the job, being valued, helping patients and having no complications on duty. the reported factors of suffering were: witness patients' suffering, helplessness feeling, suffering with patients' anger, and relationship problems with co-workers. one could evidence the need of group discussions on the issue of pleasure-suffering factors at work in such services.
ANáLISE QUANTITATIVA DA SATISFA O PROFISSIONAL DOS ENFERMEIROS QUE ATUAM NO PERíODO NOTURNO

Abstract: Estudio de campo, exploratorio descriptivo, de carácter cuantitativo, cuyo objetivo fue caracterizar los enfermeros que ejercen actividades laborales en el período nocturno en un Hospital Universitario de la provincia de Rio Grande do Sul, e identificar el nivel real de satisfacción profesional relacionado a seis componentes del trabajo: autonomía, interacción, estatus profesional, requisitos del trabajo, normas organizacionales y remuneración. Para la recolección de los datos fueron utilizados dos cuestionarios: uno para la caracterización sociodemográfica y otro para el índice de Satisfacción Profesional. Los datos, recolectados en marzo y abril de 2008, fueron procesados en el programa estadístico Statistical Analisys System versión 9.1. Participaron 42 enfermeros, la mayoría del sexo femenino (90,48%), ubicados en la franja etaria superior a 41 a os (64,28%), estado civil casado o con compa ero (64,29%), con hijos (80,96%) y que eligieron trabajar en este turno (90,48%). La autonomía fue el componente que alcanzó el mayor nivel real de satisfacción profesional, mientras que las normas organizacionales, el menor nivel.
Aspects concerning the implementation of the nursing care systematization: descriptive study

Abstract: The following descriptive study aimed to identify the factors that ease and make difficult the implementation of the Nursing Care Systematization in two wards of a university hospital. The collection of data happened from September to October 2008 applying a survey to 16 nurses. The data analysis was supported by the tool Statistical Package for the Social Sciences. The results showed the way factors that ease the implementation of systematization in specific meetings approaching the topic and the desire for professional practice change. As examples of shortcoming factors, it is possible to point the performance of nursing itself and the lack of time. Due to the data, it is suggested the bound of other forms of dialogue that enable a sharper discussion of the uncertainties pointed by the nurses in order to help them conduct the nursing care systematization.
