Larionova,María; Menéndez Castillo,Rosa; Valiente Hernández,Oscar; Fusté Moreno,Viviana;
Revista Cubana de Plantas Medicinales , 2004,
Abstract: the results of the preliminary chemical study of aloe vera l. and aloe arborescens miller cultivated in cuba are shown. the polysaccharides from the dry leaves were extracted with boiling water and were subjected to fractioning with cetyltrimethyl amonium bromide and fractioned precipitation. acid hydrolysis of the fractions and detection of sugars were carried out by paper chromatography. the sulfuric phenol method was used to quantify the carbohydrates. a higher content of polysaccharides was found in aloe vera l. the acid hydrolysis of the polysaccharide crude showed the presence of the highest quantities of manosa in aloe vera l. and of glucose in aloe arborescens miller. it was also observed that there is a very small quantity of acid polysaccharides in aloe vera l.

INTRODUCTION: the research works conducted with water extract and gel from Aloe vera (L.) N. L. Burm., administered to mice in a triton-induced acute hyperlipidemia pattern, showed a protective effect against the increase of lipids. OBJETIVES: to study the effect of administration of water extract from A. vera at repeated doses on the lipid indicators of rabbit serum. METHODS: male New Zealand rabbits were treated with water extracts from Aloe vera at doses of 17 and 34 mg/kg of bodyweight, on the basis of whole solids for 6 weeks. An untreated control group was included. Body weight, total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and triglycerides were determined at the beginning and at the end of the experimental period. RESULTS: it was found that cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and triglycerides significantly decreased in serum of animals treated with 34 mg/kg dose of the water extract at the end of the experiment, however, the HDL-cholesterol did not show any variation. CONCLUSIONS: the administration of water extract from Aloe vera to a rabbit for 6 weeks significantly reduced serum lipids.
Tillán Capó,Juana I.; Bellma Menéndez,Addis; Menéndez Castillo,Rosa; Carrillo Domínguez,Carmen;
Revista Cubana de Plantas Medicinales , 2009,
Abstract: introduction: research works performed on experimental animals administered with microencapsulated cucurbita pepo l. seed oil, have demonstrated the antiandrogenic and antiinflammatory activity of this product, so it has been recommended for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. the use of antagonist adrenergic drugs is also recommended. objective: to evaluate the antagonist a-adrenergic activity of the microencapsulated c. pepo seed oil obtained in our center. methods: microencapsulated oil concentrations (0.3; 1 y 3 mg/ml) were evaluated on isolated deferent duct in rats against sub-maximum noradrenaline concentrations (10-8 to 10-5 m), with and without 1 mg/ml of the microencapsulated oil. results: microencapsulated c pepo seed oil was proved to inhibit the contraction induced by the sub-maximum noradrenaline concentration, as well as the cumulative curve of noradrenalin when the oil was present. conclusions: microencapsulated c. pepo seed oil has antagonist a-adrenergic effect on tested concentrations in the isolated deferent duct of treated rats
