International Journal of Microbiology , 2013, DOI: 10.1155/2013/760969
Abstract: The crude extracts of plants from Asteraceae and Lamiaceae family and essential oils from Salvia officinalis and Salvia sclarea were studied for their antibacterial as well as antibiotic resistance modifying activity. Using disc diffusion and broth microdilution assays we determined higher antibacterial effect of three Salvia spp. and by evaluating the leakage of 260?nm absorbing material we detected effect of extracts and, namely, of essential oils on the disruption of cytoplasmic membrane. The evaluation of in vitro interactions between plant extracts and oxacillin described in terms of fractional inhibitory concentration (FIC) indices revealed synergistic or additive effects of plant extracts and clearly synergistic effects of essential oil from Salvia officinalis with oxacillin in methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis. 1. Introduction Staphylococcus epidermidis belongs to the group of coagulase negative staphylococci (CoNS). It is commensal microorganism that constitutes a major component of the normal skin and mucosal microflora of humans [1]. However, in recent years these bacteria have emerged as an opportunistic pathogen, important causative agents of bacteremia, and the leading cause of nosocomial infections particularly associated with indwelling medical devices (e.g., prosthetic joints and heart valves) and in individuals with a compromised immune system (e.g., cancer patients and neonates) [2, 3]. Staphylococcus epidermidis pathogenesis relies on the ability to adhere and form biofilms on the surfaces of the medical devices mentioned earlier [4]. Staphylococci are considered as naturally susceptible to almost all antimicrobial agents developed but at the same time have a reputation of rapidly developing resistance [5]. CoNS, especially S. epidermidis, are often multiresistant, including resistance to methicillin. Resistance to methicillin is at 75–90% among hospital isolates of S. epidermidis, which is even higher than the corresponding rate for S. aureus (40–60%) [6]. In addition to methicillin resistance, S. epidermidis strains have acquired resistance to several other antibiotics. Most antibiotic resistance genes are plasmid-encoded and are more often found in methicillin-resistant than methicillin-susceptible strains [7]. These facts together with the ubiquity of S. epidermidis as a human commensal microorganism render this bacterium an optimal carrier and reservoir for antibiotic resistance genes and for the transfer of genetic elements to pathogenic bacteria. The increasingly growing rate of antibiotic resistance of
How Do the Evolution and Innovation of Social Network Analysis Matter to Computer Science and Communications?  [PDF]

Social Networking (SN) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/sn.2013.23013

This paper provides a comprehensive overview of evolution and innovation in social network analysis to the paradigm of social networking. It explains how the development of sociological theory and the structural properties of social groups matter to computer science and communications. Authors such as Moreno, John Barnes and Harrison C. White provide evidence of a growing body of literature addressing the networking of people, organizations and communities to explain the structure of society. This perspective has passed from sociology to other fields, changing understandings of social phenomena. Social networks remain a potent concept for analyzing computer science and communications. This paper shows how and why this has occurred and examines substantive areas in which social network analysis has been applied—mainly how the advantages of graphic visualization and computer software packages have influenced SNA in different audiences and publics leading to the unfolding of social networking to different audiences and publics.

Katrin Schütz: Geschlechterentwürfe im literarischen Werk von Lou Andreas-Salomé unter Berücksichtigung ihrer Geschlechtertheorie. Würzburg: Verlag K nigshausen & Neumann 2008
Romana Weiershausen
querelles-net , 2009,
Katrin Schütz’s study of gender conceptions in Lou Andreas-Salomé’s early work considers those literary texts often ignored by scholarship. The study is constructed as an overview, in light of which a differentiated reflection on the individual theses falls short: Schütz intends to formulate a typology. The expanded textual basis allows for the creation of something new, which will in turn provide inspirational impulses for turn-of-the-century research.

Technológia vzdelávania , 2010,
Abstract: The report mediates the selected results of the wider conceived research ROSE by using the same-name questionnaire. The research sample consisted of 184 pupils of the nine year- class of primary school. The aim of the research was to find the pupil's interest of the biology subject (natural science), the popularity of individual content or themes of science education with the focus on biology, to map a picture about the level of pupil's interest of science education, about student's attitudes towards the difficulty their studies at primary school and the importance of the knowledge of science education for the future careers of pupils. The considerable findings are the priority preference of biology subject in science education of the pupils of the ninth class, as well as their preferences for topics of the human- biology. In conclusion, we recommend the teachers, that they focus the pedagogy on the pupil's themselves with the strong application of constructivist approach and the internal motivation in their recognition to make the science education more attractive.Príspevok sprostredkuje vybrané vysledky ir ie koncipovaného vyskumu ROSE s vyu itím rovnomenného dotazníka. Gustave Guillaume in Romanian: Translation Problems
Studii de Stiinta si Cultura , 2012,
Abstract: Fifty years after Gustave Guillaume’s death (1960), the translation into Romanian of his works is still entirely justified. He created the method of linguistic analysis called psychomechanics of language, the application of whitch to several languages obtained pertinent results. After a short presentation of the main basic principles of psychomechanics, this contribution examines the difficulties encountered in translating certain specifical terms.
Interpretation of Rumanian neuter by the number system of Gustave Guillaume
Studii de Stiinta si Cultura , 2013,
Abstract: This contribution proposes an explanation of Rumanian neuter – a result of the interference of gender and number – by the dynamics of these categories in Gustave Guillaume’s vision. Psychomecanics of language, essentially operative, helps us to understand the main fact needing explanation: why and by whitch mechanisms masculine nouns change their gender to feminine in their plural? The explanation of this phenomenon involves mainly several analogous systems as: internal plural / external plural, minor animate / major animate, construction of word, conception (imaginary) of space.
U inki sistema referen nih cen na oblikovanje cen zdravil = The Effect of the Reference Price System on Prices of Medicinal Products
Romana Kajdi?,?tefan Bojnec
Management , 2010,
Abstract: The reference price system in Slovenia is used with the aim of managingand reducing public expenditures for medicinal products. Weaim to investigate whether the reference price system has had an effecton real price reductions for medicinal products. We present thereference price regulation system for medicinal products and empiricallyestimate the effect of price regulation on the development of realprices for medicinal products and its economic rationale. The mainthesis that the nominal and real prices for medicinal products have declinedduring price regulation is revealed by the Laspeyres index andWilcoxon signed ranks test, by confirming the existence of statisticallysignificant differences in prices for medicinal products. Therefore, weadopt the alternative hypothesis that prices for medicinal productshave declined during the price regulation system. The reference priceregulation system, with an efficient use of medicinal products and theirefficient supply, could have positive effects on management and reductionof public expenditure for medicinal products.
Change Management in Adult Educational Organizations: A Slovenian Case Study
Romana Martin?i?
Managing Global Transitions , 2010,
Abstract: Successful implementing andmanaging of change is urgently necessary for each adult educational organization. During the process, leading of the staff is becoming a key condition and the most significant factor. Beside certain personal traits of the leader, change management demands also certain leadership knowledges, skills, versatilities and behaviour which may even border on changing the organizational culture. The paper finds the significance of certain values and of organizational climate and above all the significance of leadership style which a leader will adjust to the staff and to the circumstances. The author presents a multiple qualitative case study of managing change in three adult educational organizations. The paper finds that factors of successful leading of change exist which represent an adequate approach to leading the staff during the introduction of changes in educational organizations. Its originality/value is in providing information on the important relationship between culture, leadership styles and leader’s behaviour as preconditions for successful implementing and managing of strategic change.

Abstract: The modern concept of singing education is based on the book Resonance inSinging by Donald Gray Miller. The research is realized using the VoceVistaProfessional software, which analyzes the individual components of each tone anddetermines its fundamental frequency and further higher harmonics (H1, H2, etc.) Italso shows the presence of other formants contributing to the quality of the tone. Theindividual components are quantified by their frequency (Hz) and intensity (dB). Theresult of the tone displayed in this manner is an objective description of the tone and avisualization of tone components that can help both singing teachers (for voicediagnostics) and students when studying singing.
