Microlinfocitotoxicity assay is one of the serological methods used to classify human major histocompatibility complex. In this technique the rabbit′s serum as complement source, plays an essential role in antigens determination and in lymphocytes cross match assay as necessary stage before the selection of the best donor-receiver pair to realize the organ transplant. Three experimental lots of normal rabbit serum were developed with excellent indicators of efficiency, biological activity and stability. Rabbit's blood was obtained through jugulating technique and serum was separated by centrifugation in controlled environment and temperature′s conditions. The sterilization process was performed by filtration and the samples were taken for quality′s control assays. Stability studies showed that the product kept the biological activity at least during 18 months after it was processed and cytotoxicity's values were adequate for its employment in histocompatibility pre-transplant assays.

The risk of contamination with Toxoplasma gondii via blood transfusion is increased by the incidence of this parasite in donors and its tolerance to blood processing and storage processes, which turns it into a hazard for risk groups. This disease is not notifiable in Cuba. The interest in learning about the epidemiological behavior of this parasitosis led us to study 562 blood donor samples from the province of Guantánamo, 47.0 % of which tested positive for anti-T. gondii IgG, with over 62 % positivity in the municipalities of Baracoa and Maisí, and higher prevalence in rural areas. Neither the seropositivity values found in the age groups studied nor their sex distribution were significant, though contact with the parasite was higher in the 18-40 age group. These seroepidemiological data point to the need to propose control actions for the use of blood products in risk groups.

Abstract: In hydrogeology it is of great interest to examine the temporal and spatial evolution of aquifers. There are different ways of modeling an aquifer: physical models, models based on analog and mathematical techniques. Usually, mathematical techniques involve complex operations difficult to understand for some people, such as differential or partial equations. In contrast, our method requires only a basic knowledge of geometry and trigonometry. Moreover, it is only necessary to know the static level of the aquifer at three different dates. Of course, the results may be limited compared to those that use advanced mathematical methods; however, our method provides a first approximation to determine the behavior of the aquifer through time. Overall, our results allowed us to follow the evolution of the aquifer in detail of various areas of increased extraction and in which removal has been increasing, but also of areas with a considerable recharge during the study period.

Revista MVZ Córdoba , 2009,
Abstract: objective. to establish antinutritional factors in uvito (cordia dentata poir), and the effect of its dietary inclusion in animal’ health as assessed by gas production experiments. materials and methods. leaves of c. dentata were collected at the codazzi municipality, cesar, colombia during the dry (march) and rainy (september) seasons. leaves of colosuana (bothriochloa pertusa), a grass widely available in the region, were also collected and used as control diet. the content of tannins, saponins, alkaloids, nitrates and nitrites was determined in all samples. gas production experiments were carried out in order to assess dry matter degradability and the nutritional impact of nitrates, a major dietary component in uvito. results. our results suggest that uvito is a degradable forage and a good protein source (crude protein content = 16.8%); the content of saponins, alkaloids and tannins should not be considered as antinutritional factors in this species. however, nitrate content were high enough that they could be classified as potentially toxic and thus this condition should be monitored if uvito is to be included in the diet of ruminants. conclusions. we show that gas production was increased by the addition of nitrates present in c. dentata leaves.

Abstract: culture continuously impacts the way human beings adapt to their particular social group. this is due to the fact that it establishes models that determine the property of emotional expression, the way to interpret situations and the correct behavior for each ecosystem (bruner, 1986). one of the most important contributions of díaz-guerrero (1967, 2003) is the idea that a socio-culture is a system of interrelated beliefs that regulate feelings, ideas, personal relationships, social roles, interaction rules among individuals and situations. to assess the socio-cultural rules and beliefs of emotional expressions, we designed and validated five measures of historic-socio-cultural premises of emotional expression (phsc'see premisas historico-socio-culturales de la expresión emocional in spanish) of happiness, love, sadness, anger and fear. findings show the existence of five valid and reliable tests that allow us to recognize conceptually clear and statistically robust factorial configurations depicting emotions in the mexican culture.
