International journal of odontostomatology , 2011, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-381X2011000200003
Abstract: the objective of the present case report is to present the experience of the maxillofacial surgery team of the hospital san jose in the management of atrophic mandible fracture, through the medical-surgical treatment and post-operatory evolution of two clinical cases. we studied two women with systemic conditions, edentulous with a diagnosis of atrophic mandible fracture subsequent to fall injury. in all treated cases the surgical team achieved satisfactory results through an integral treatment of patients with this type of fracture, based on actual literature reported protocols. the treatment of choice for this type of fractures is an anatomical open reduction, by internal fixation with osteosynthesis plates and screws on the basis of favorable results and functional rehabilitation of patients. the multidisciplinary management is fundamental for treatment of this type of patient due to the concomitant systemic conditions of these patients.
An In-Reflection Strain Sensing Head Based on a Hi-Bi Photonic Crystal Fiber
Sergio Rota-Rodrigo,Ana M. R. Pinto,Mikel Bravo,Manuel Lopez-Amo
Sensors , 2013, DOI: 10.3390/s130708095
Abstract: A photonic crystal fiber-based sensing head is proposed for strain measurements. The sensor comprises a Hi-Bi PCF sensing head to measure interferometric signals in-reflection. An experimental background study of the sensing head is conducted through an optical backscatter reflectometer confirming the theoretical predictions, also included. A cost effective setup is proposed where a laser is used as illumination source, which allows accurate high precision strain measurements. Thus, a sensitivity of ~7.96 dB/me was achieved in a linear region of 1,200 μe.

Abstract: objective: a retrospective study analysed results and prognostic factors regarding patients suffering from stage iib-iiib cervical carcinoma treated with cisplatin-based chemotherapy concurrently with standard radiotherapy. material and methods: 164 patients were admitted to the hospital from september 1999 to december 2002 who had been diagnosed with cervical cancer; 83 patients suffering from stage iib-iiib were selected. treatment consisted of radiotherapy plus weekly cisplatin-based chemotherapy lasting five weeks. results: 89.15% of the patients received 5 cycles of chemotherapy. median overall survival rate was 41 months, with 68.8% 3-year overall survival, 66.3% disease-free survival and 83.1% loco-regional disease-free survival rates. prognostic factors for survival were: stage iiib, ≥ 7 cm clinical tumour diameter, patients who had not undergone brachytherapy and biparametrial disease conclusions: a radiation treatment and concurrent weekly cisplatin therapy regimen in patients suffering from stage iib-iiib cervical carcinoma proved feasible in the carlos van buren hospital (chilean public health system) having good tolerance, results and prognostic factors similar to those reported in the international literature.
Gender, age and brand in Children's Christmas request: A Content Analysis of Chilean Children's Letters to Santa
Uribe Bravo,Rodrigo; Martínez,Carolina;
Innovar , 2009,
Abstract: this study examines children's consumption request in the context of a latin american country. concretely, this paper analyzes the amount and nature of gifts requested by chilean children in their christmas letters to santa claus in 2005. results suggest, on the one hand, the presence of a small amount of gifts requested (as previous studies have stated), the gendered nature of them (in under-11 year-old kids) as well as a low presence of brands (as compared with figures reported by previous research). on the other hand, this study found a significant role played by age and gender in terms of type of gift and brand usage in the request.

Posmodernidad y Crisis de Identidad
Miquel Rodrigo Alsina,Pilar Bravo Medina
This article examines the concept of identity. Identity is a creative act, but the article shows up the existence of some social imitations. Implicit in this fact lies a latent danger of exclusion. Finally, the origin, traits and the role of national identity are analysed, settingthem in the context of modernity.
