Abstract: the rice crop demands high nutrient input. in most areas where rice is cultivated, nitrogen is the main limiting factor to yield and nitrogen fertilization represents the largest fraction of the total production cost. this study aimed to assess the effect of low and high nitrogen rates on flooded rice cultivars sown in a lowland soil without a controlled flooding system. nine flooded rice cultivars were used in the experiment: brs-ja?an?, metica-1, best-2000, brsgo-guará, brs-alvorada, bra-01381, an-cambará, brs7-taim and epagri-109. nitrogen at the rates of 20 and 120 kg ha-1 were used to simulate environments of low and high n levels, respectively. the following characteristics were evaluated: plants height, grain yield and 100-grain mass. genotype epagri-109 was the best statistic group for both low and high nitrogen levels and the environment with high nitrogen level produced the highest plant heights.

Abstract: This paper presents a tool stack for the implementation, specification and test of software following the practices of Behavior Driven Development (BDD) in Python language. The usage of this stack highlights the specification and validation of the software's expected behavior, reducing the error rate and improving documentation. Therefore, it is possible to produce code with much less defects at both functional and unit levels, in addition to better serving to stakeholders' expectations.

Abstract: LAND USE AND ITS SOCIO-ENVIRONMENTAL IMPLICATIONS IN THE WETLANDS OF THE ARAGUAIA RIVER (STATE OF GOIáS, BRAZIL). The Araguaia River is one of the largest in Brazil and certainly the most significant for the state of Goiás. It played a central role in the discovery of, and settlement in, the hinterlands of central Brazil. The Aruaguia river basin, in between its source and its mouth, is usually divided into three segments – High, Middle and Lower Araguaia – to which correspond different types of landscape. The present study focuses on a segment of the Middle Araguaia that stretches from the Registro do Araguaia district (municipality of Montes Claros) to the southern tip of the Bananal island (municipality of S o Miguel do Araguaia). The study area occupies an area of 4,430 km2 and is characterized by its smooth relief and hydromorphic soils, which are associated with a discontinuous strip of flood plain. Occupation of the study area intensified from the 1960s onwards, and was driven mostly by pastoralists who were attracted to the area by the low price of the land, the public policy of colonization and the physical characteristics of the region. This article presents an environmental characterisation of these wetlands, based on the interpretation of data acquired through remote sensing and a field work. It then discusses the predominant types of land use and their socio-environmental implications. The analysis refers to the year 2007 and indicates the existence of a number of serious threats to the integrity of the wetlands of the Araguaia River, whose relevance in terms of natural heritage has been acknowledged at the national level. In particular, the results show that 61% of the study area is allocated to either cattle farming or agriculture, and that the predominant economic activity, cattle farming, takes up 42% of that area.

Abstract: drug-induced lupus (dil) has been described as the development of idiopathic systemic lupus erythematous-like symptoms, temporarily associated to the exposition to drugs, and as a rule, the condition is improved with the suspension of the triggering medication. the most classical association is with procainamide and hydralazine. recently, with the introduction of new drugs in the clinical practice, an increase on the number of medications associated with the occurence of the disease has been reported, and the current list includes almost one hundred drugs associated to the occurrence of dil. the basic dil immunologic mechanism, although described for more than 60 years, is not yet fully understood. there are several hypotheses for the drug-induced autoimmunity process, and the phenomenon is generally interpreted as an inappropriate activation of the immune system. among the several theories proposed, the most accepted ones are: the inhibition of the dna methylation by some drugs, what would allow the activation of t-cells; the oxidation of some substances by monocytes, what would generate active metabolites that in turn would lead to the activation of antigen-presenting cells and/or the interference of the metabolites of some drugs with the immune system tolerance. further studies should be conducted in order to elucidate the dil immunopathogeny with the objective of developing specific treatments based on the better knowledge on the pathogenic mechanisms.
