Espa?o Jurídico : Journal of Law , 2010,
Minorias. Open Journal of Animal Sciences (OJAS) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ojas.2013.31003
Abstract: This study aimed to analyze the possible metabolic disturbances caused by creatine supplementation on aerobic capacity of rats, inferred by the maximal lactate steady state. Forty male Wistar rats (90 days old) were distributed into two groups for eight weeks: trained group (T): rats that were submitted to a training protocol, and supplemented-trained group (TCr): rats that were submitted to a training protocol and received balanced diet supplemented with 2% creatine. The blood lactate concentrations equivalent to maximal lactate steady state during treadmill running were analyzed at the beginning and also at the end of the experiment. At the end of the experiment were done comparing the test results MLSS between the two groups. At the beginning of the experiment, prior to groups division, the majority of animals obtained MLSS at a speed of26 m/min, blood lactate concentration of 3.79 ± 0.76 mmol/L. At the end of the experiment, most of trained rats in T presented MLSS at the speed of28 m/min, blood lactate concentration of 3.37 ± 0.68 mmol/L. Most TCr had MLSS at the speed of28 m/min, blood lactate concentration of 3.52 ± 0.69 mmol/L. We conclude that creatine supplementation was not the cause of the improvement in the aerobic capacity of rats in the tread-mill exercise.
Ctenodontina Enderlein, 1914 (Diptera, Asilidae, Asilinae): First Record for Brazil and Description of a New Species
Rodrigo Vieira
ISRN Zoology , 2012, DOI: 10.5402/2012/517410
Abstract: Ctenodontina Enderlein is reported for the first time in Brazil. A new species Ctenodontina nairae sp. nov. is described from the Amazonas state, Brazil. The habitus, wing, and structures of terminalia are described, and illustrated and a key to species is presented. 1. Introduction Ctenodontina Enderlein is characterized by the epandrium narrowed apically (usually terminating in a finger-like lobe) and distinctly shorter than sternite 8 [1, 2]. In the female, the ovipositor with apical ventral comb of spines, and with tergite 8 broadly expanded laterally, densely setose and cupped beneath, completely obscuring sternite 8 in profile [1, 2]. Ctenodontina is a Neotropical genus (Figure 1), comprising 4 species [3]: C. martini. Fisher [4]. This species was described by Fisher in Fisher and Hespenheide, 1992 [1] (Mexico and Guatemala), C. maya Carrera and d'Andretta [5] (Peru), C. mochica Lamas [6] (Peru), and C. pectinatipes Enderlein [7] (Colombia). Furthermore, Artigas and Papavero [8] illustrated a male hind femur of Ctenodontina sp. from Argentina, Jujuy, La Legua (Figure 2(e)), but they did not described the specimen. The same illustrations used by Artigas and Papavero [8] were used by Papavero et al. [9]. Figure 1: Map of distribution of Ctenodontina species (blue square Ctenodontina martini Fisher; black triangle Ctenodontina pectinatipes Enderlein; black cross Ctenodontina nairae Vieira sp. nov.; red circle, Ctenodontina mochica Lamas; green triangle, Ctenodontina maya Carrera and d'Andretta [ 5]). Figure 2: was built with (a) male terminalia in lateral view of Ctenodontina martini Fisher (modified from Fisher [ 8]); (b) male hind femur of Ctenodontina maya Carrera and d’Andretta (modified from Papavero et al. [ 9]); (c) male hind femur of Ctenodontina mochica Lamas (modified from Lamas [ 6]); (d) male hind femur of Ctenodontina pectinatipes Enderlein (modified from Enderlein [ 7]); (e) male hind femur of Ctenodontina sp. (modified from Papavero et al. [ 9]); (f) male hind femur of Ctenodontina nairae Vieira sp. nov. In this work a new species for Ctenodontina from Amazonas state, Brazil, is described and illustrated and a key for all species presently in Ctenodontina is provided. 2. Material and Methods This study is based on the examination of specimens housed in the following Brazilian institutions: CZPB—Cole??o Zoológica Prof. Paulo Bührnheim, Departamento de Biologia, Universidade Federal do Amazonas, Manaus, Brazil, and Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amaz?nia (INPA), Amazonas, Manaus, Brazil. Abstract: the fertility and trace elements diagnosis of soils is important for agricultural and environmental purposes, because there is little data available on the pantanal-cerrado-floresta amaz?nica transitional areas. this work evaluated many parameters relative to the fertility, fe, mn, zn, cu and b bioavailability, and total content of as, cd, hg and pb in soils of the vale do guaporé, in the south-western region of mato grosso. soil samples were collected in depths of 0-0,2 and 0,20-0,40 m in native vegetation, pasture, annual crop and gold mineration areas. these samples were analyzed for fertility according to embrapa methodologies and trace elements by the sw3051 methods; and the average results were compared with quality reference values (vrq) of soils of s?o paulo stipulated by the company of technology of environment sanitation (cetesb). the pb contents in the majority of samples were below the vrq. in relation to as, many samples showed contents above the vrq: 45,8% in native vegetation areas; 60% in the gold mineration areas; 28% in annual crop areas; and 44% in the pasture areas. the cd contents too were above the vrq: 20,8; 50; 55,5; and 22% for native vegetation, gold mineration, annual crop and pasture areas. similar behavior was observed for hg, which presented 75; 65; and 67% for native vegetation; gold mineration; and annual crop and pasture areas, respectively, with mean contents above the vrq. about ph, around 68% of the samples presented values between 6,1 and 7,0 and the values of base saturation (v) were high (60-80%) for 51,5% of the points sampled. however, the mean p content was short in the whole area. the comparison of as, cd and hg contents with the vrq of soils showed that it is necessary to determine these values for the state of mato grosso, keeping in view that the total contents of these elements observed in native areas were superior to the vrq.

Revista Brasileira de Parasitologia Veterinária , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1984-29612010000300005
Abstract: toxoplasma gondii infection has been diagnosed in pigs all over the world. economical losses are generally related to reproductive disorders. toxoplasma infection is also a matter of public health because tissue cysts of the parasite may remain in pork and pork products, and become sources of human infection. the objective of this study was to evaluate the frequency and risk factors associated with toxoplasma infection in certified and non-certified pig breeding farms in the toledo microregion, in the state of paraná, brazil which includes the cities of toledo, nova santa rosa, sao josé das palmeiras and sao pedro do igua?u. relative frequency of infection was 13.4%, independently of the type of farm. logistic regression analysis showed that the following factors were associated with infection: absence of workers exclusive for each area of the farm, access of other animals to feeders and drinkers, lack of lids in drinkers, lack of rodent control measures, mean piglet number and weight at weaning per female.
