Adenocarcinoma in the jejunum of a dog: a case report
Hernández,Carlos; Restrepo,Rodrigo;
Revista Colombiana de Ciencias Pecuarias , 2005,
Abstract: a 10-year-old male pit-bull was attended for presenting sporadic vomiting and occasional diarrhea. in the last 48 hours the patient had presented multiple vomiting and no oral food was tolerated. during the physical examination an abdominal cranial mass was palpated. survey radiographs of the abdomen and contrast study with barium sulfate suspension showed an accumulation of a radiopaque material causing an intestinal obstruction pattern. during the surgical exploration, the foreign material was extracted from the jejunum using an enterotomy, but an intramural mass was detected occluding the lumen at this point. a complete bowel resection was performed in the intestinal loop affected by the tumor and an end-to-end anastomosis was performed. the histologic examinations revealed an adenocarcinoma involving the entire intestinal wall. the patient recovered from the surgical procedure and no signs of metastasis have been proved nine months after the surgery.

The patient recovered from the surgical procedure and no signs of metastasis have been proved nine months after the surgery.

Iatreia , 1993,
We report on the case of a fisherman who was wounded by a stingray (Potamotrygon magdalenne). As a consequence he developed a femoral arterio-venous fistula that was surgical treated with success. Suture of the vein and end to end anastomosis of the artery were performed. A review of the literature yielded no cases of arteriovenous fistula of this etiology.

Acta Biológica Colombiana , 2009,
Abstract: the purpose of this research was to characterize the flowering phenological phases and to determine the flower visitors in a natural population of drimys granadensis (common name: canelo; winteraceae) in altos de yerbabuena, eastern mountains of sabana de bogotá ( colombia ). floral phenology development lasted 9.5 days when flowering occurred under sunny conditions, 12.5 days under rainy conditions and 16 days when flower visitors were excluded using cloth bags. it was done observations related with the resources used, the phenological phases of visited flowers and the pollen load on the flower visitors. visitors corresponded with 29 morphospecies, 6 orders y 21 families of insects. four species of coleoptera and two species of diptera were considered as possible pollinators taking in account abundance and pollen load. the results are analyzed in relation with those reported for other species in the genus drimys and in the family winteraceae.

Revista Colombiana de Ciencias Pecuarias , 2008,
Abstract: a 5-year-old female schnauzer was attended for being lethargic and having vomit in the past two days. the bitch had been in estrous three weeks ago and the owners noticed a vulvar discharge. during the physical examination, fever and left cranial abdominal pain were found and the presence of bladder stones was suspected. during the exploratory laparotomy a renal and a perinephritic abscesses were found, then a nephrectomy were performed. a cistotomy were also performed and struvite bladder stones were removed. the patient recovered successfully and a commercial diet was prescribed to avoid new calculi formation. histopathological examination confirmed the presence of both renal and perinephritic abscesses, conditions that are uncommon in dogs and in this case were probably related to pyelonephritis and struvite bladder stones.
Hernández,Carlos A; Alejandro,Gaviria; Restrepo,Rodrigo;
Revista Colombiana de Ciencias Pecuarias , 2007,
Abstract: a german shepard dog was attended presenting an infectious gastroenteritis. once the dog responded to treatment, it was noticed that the patient regurgitated frequently. in the barium esophagogram it was detected a big esophageal dilatation in the proximal third of the thoracic esophagus, and the upper endoscopy confirmed an esophageal diverticulum. the surgical intervention included a lateral thoracotomy with esophageal diverticulum resection, thoracic tube drainage with a heimlich valve, and a gastrostomy tube placement for enteral nutrition. the patient recovered satisfactory without any complication. esophageal diverticulum is infrequent in dogs and its rupture can lead to critical conditions as mediastinitis and death. surgical resection is essential in the treatment of esophageal diverticulum in cases were clinical symptoms are important.
