Revista Mal-estar e Subjetividade , 2010,
Abstract: The values that are linked to contemporary education, particularly those prevailing in the upper social classes, appear to have important consequences in the way children experience childhood: time and space for spontaneous playing, so important for a healthy mental development of the future adult subject, seem to be often sacrificed to give place to conditions for a future "adult" achievement, through preparatory studies and activities. The conditions of daily life in contemporary cities, particularly the increased occurrence of violence and the values related to individualism and purchasing, play an important role in determining the way children experience and represent their environment. Some related questions are discussed in this paper: the concept of childhood, the function of playing in child's development, the experience of physical space in urban environment and the attitudes towards the others, based on a field research with children belonging to different social classes, that outlines the influence of the conditions of urban life. Children from the upper classes seem to show a greater difficulty to get conscious of a personal sense of their inner experience, while children from working class show more creativity and playing ability in the way they experience the environment.

Brígida Dias Fernandes, Aracelli Ferreira Lírio, Rodrigo Randow de Freitas, Ana Carolina Melchiors
Pharmacology & Pharmacy (PP) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/pp.2013.45062
Abstract: Pharmaceutical services contribute to the rational use of medicines by ensuring the provision of appropriate, safe and effective pharmacotherapies. Thus, it is important to investigate whether the geographical distribution of pharmacies causes inequalities in access in countries like Brazil, where there is no federal law regulating the opening of new establishments (in contrast to many European countries). This study analyzed the accessibility of community pharmacies in the city of Sao Mateus, Espírito Santo, Brazil. The authors obtained the geographical coordinates of pharmacies and healthfacilities, which scanned and georeferenced the study area. The 40 pharmacies included in the spatial analysis presented a heterogeneous distribution, with the existence of neighborhoods with an accumulation of pharmacies and others with no pharmacies. The authors found that only 43.7% of the study area received pharmaceutical service coverage, when buffer zones of 350 meters are incorporated, and that most of the districts have a minimum distance of 100 meters between health facilities and pharmacies. It was concluded that the use of GIS proved to be very suitable for analysis of pharmaceutical services, enabling knowledge of the local situation and serving as a stimulus for future studies.

Using Social Networks to Support Software Ecosystems Comprehension and Evolution  [PDF]
Rodrigo Pereira dos Santos, Maria Gilda P. Esteves, Gleisson de S. Freitas, Jano Moreira de Souza
Social Networking (SN) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/sn.2014.32014
Abstract:

The software industry has evolved to a multiple-product development created on a platform and based on a common architecture integrated to other systems. This integration happens through components and third-party developers networks in Software Ecosystems (SECOs). Since systems and software development processes present challenges beyond the technical side, SECOs have emerged as an approach to improve the Software Engineering (SE) mindset in the industry. This fact changes the software industry as it requires the management of an integrated social-based environment to support a transition from an intra-organizational to an open business model approach towards a SECO approach. In this context, social networks can be important to coordinate a collaborative and distributed environment to develop SECOs platforms. This paper analyses the impact of social networks in SECOs through an integrated framework of the SECO and social network challenges. So, a proposal for a sociotechnical-based architecture to support the SECOs lifecycle is discussed.

Arg.)
Santos, Rodrigo S.;Freitas, Sérgio de;
Neotropical Entomology , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1519-566X2008000500012
Abstract: the rubber tree lace bug, leptopharsa heveae drake & poor occurs in high populations in rubber tree plantations and it is a limiting factor in rubber production due to the loss of photosynthetic tissue. the control of the pest has been made mainly with chemical products, which cause environmental contamination. the alternative would be the use of biological control agents, however, information about l. heveae natural enemies are scarce. the parasitoid erythmelus tingitiphagus (soares) parasitize eggs of the rubber tree lace bug. the aim of this study was to verify the occurrence of e. tingitiphagus in plantations of several rubber tree clones, located in itiquira town, mato grosso state. the plant leaflets of the clones rrim 600, pr 255, gt 1, pb 235 and pb 217 were collected weekly from october 2005 to february 2006. parasitism was recorded during the entire study period. the parasitism rate of l. heveae eggs in the different clones ranged from 16.8 to 20.6%.

Silva, Carlos Francisco Bittencourt;Camara, Eduardo Kastrup Bittencourt;Vieira, Luiz Antonio;Adolphsson, Fernando;Rodarte, Rodrigo Ribeiro Pinho;
Revista Brasileira de Ortopedia , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-36162010000400017
Abstract: objetivo: to radiographically evaluate patients who underwent opening wedge proximal tibial osteotomy in order to analyze the proximal tibial slope in the frontal plane, sagittal plane, and patellar height. method: the study included 22 patients operated on at the instituto nacional de traumatologia e ortopedia (into) for the correction of varus angular tibial deviation using the opening wedge osteotomy (owo) technique with the orthofix monolateral external fixator. we analyzed patients with owo having completed treatment between january 2000 and december 2006. values were measured by using x-rays of the anteroposterior profile with load and lateral profile with 30o flexion of the operated knees. results: no statistically significant differences between the pre- and post-operative indices of tibial slope and patellar height in the patients were found. conclusion: opening wedge proximal tibial osteotomy is a technique that avoids the problems presented by high tibial osteotomy, as it is done without promoting changes in the extensor mechanism, ligament imbalance or deformities in the proximal tibia.
Distinct ultrastructural aspects in different biopsies of a single patient with diffuse cutaneous leishmaniasis
Bittencourt, Achilea Lisboa;Freitas, Luiz Antonio Rodrigues de;Pompeu, Margarida L.;Vieira, Maria Lucia;Barral, Aldina;
Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz , 1990, DOI: 10.1590/S0074-02761990000100008
Abstract: the authors investigated the relation between parasites and host-cells in active and regressed lesions of a patient with diffuse cutaneous leishmaniasis, evaluating the frequency of different cell types, and the location and integrity of amastigotes. no correlation was found between parasite integrity and size of parasitophorous vacuoles. they observed ultrastructural findings characterizing a cell mediated immune response: macrophages lysis, parasitic destruction inside macrophages, close contact between parasitized macrophages and lymphocytes and between parasites and lymphocytes, lymphocytic infiltration and fibrosis. they suggest that in dcl there is a limited cellular immune response, although insufficient to control infection.
