The management of quartz and slate resources in the Iberian Chalcolithic: the case of the “Santuario” at El Pedroso (Trabazos de Aliste, Zamora)
Fábregas Valcarce, Ramón,Rodríguez Rellán, Carlos
Trabajos de Prehistoria , 2008,
Abstract: The analysis of the lithic artifacts from the “Santuario” sector of El Pedroso has allowed us to determine a strategy of exploitation of the local raw materials, mainly quartz and slate. The specific mechanical properties of those materials led the prehistoric people to the adoption of technical solutions such as bipolar flaking, with the aim of overcoming the structural difficulties posed by this type of rocks.
A media luz.
Abstract: The systematic survey of rock art in the area of the town council of Porto do Son (A Coru a) has allowed us to find nearly two hundred carved surfaces, two of them located within rock shelters. Two other examples in the Western regions of Galicia must be added to those. The motifs inside the rock shelters are exactly the same as those found in the open-air petroglyphs, which can be roughly dated to the third millennium BC. These finds attest to the existence of an intentional constraint on the visibility of these graphic manifestations. The coexistence of motifs inside cavities and others located outdoors, even on fairly conspicuous vertical friezes, shows the variability of this phenomenon and allows us to reflect on the different audiences at which the rock sites would have been aimed.
Changes in the proteomic and metabolic profiles of Beta vulgaris root tips in response to iron deficiency and resupply

Abstract: Root tip extract proteome maps were obtained by 2-D isoelectric focusing polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, and approximately 140 spots were detected. Iron deficiency resulted in changes in the relative amounts of 61 polypeptides, and 22 of them were identified by mass spectrometry (MS). Metabolites in root tip extracts were analyzed by gas chromatography-MS, and more than 300 metabolites were resolved. Out of 77 identified metabolites, 26 changed significantly with Fe deficiency. Iron deficiency induced increases in the relative amounts of proteins and metabolites associated to glycolysis, tri-carboxylic acid cycle and anaerobic respiration, confirming previous studies. Furthermore, a protein not present in Fe-sufficient roots, dimethyl-8-ribityllumazine (DMRL) synthase, was present in high amounts in root tips from Fe-deficient sugar beet plants and gene transcript levels were higher in Fe-deficient root tips. Also, a marked increase in the relative amounts of the raffinose family of oligosaccharides (RFOs) was observed in Fe-deficient plants, and a further increase in these compounds occurred upon short term Fe resupply. The increases in DMRL synthase and in RFO sugars were the major changes induced by Fe deficiency and resupply in root tips of sugar beet plants. Flavin synthesis could be involved in Fe uptake, whereas RFO sugars could be involved in the alleviation of oxidative stress, C trafficking or cell signalling. Our data also confirm the increase in proteins and metabolites related to carbohydrate metabolism and TCA cycle pathways. Two different strategies of Fe uptake have been described in plants. The so-called chelation strategy (or Strategy II), which is mainly found in graminaceous plants, is based on the excretion of phytosideropores (PS) to the rhizosphere. Phytosideropores rapidly chelate Fe(III), to form Fe(III)-PS chelates that are subsequently transported into the root cells through a specific transporter. The so-called reduction strategy (or St
Transnationalism between Galicia and Northern Portugal: An Emerging Cosmopolitism  [PDF]

Sociology Mind (SM) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/sm.2017.74010
Abstract: This paper deals with the formation of a transnational society between Galicia and the Northern part of Portugal, analysed from an anthropological point of view. Concepts like cosmopolitism, ethnicity, liminality, and memory are central in the theoretical discussion for interpreting the processes of transnationalism. The suppression of the borders in the post-national European Union made the creation of transnational communities near the states’ borders possible. This process, in the case of the Galician-Portuguese borders, has developed depending on the ethnic processes, once the Spanish and Portuguese states attained democracies. The concept of a cosmopolitan nation has also been central in the discussion of how ethnicity and nationalism intervene in the process of transnationalism.

Acta botánica mexicana , 2009,
Abstract: as a result of recent botanical collections in mexico, manfreda parva is described as a new species from the state of guerrero. it is characterized by its small, linear and falcate leaves. manfreda parva belongs to the m. guttata group and based on leaf characteristics it is similar to m. bulbulifera. however, m. parva has more leaves, the filaments are shorter, the perianth tube is larger and the perianth lobes are smaller than in m. bulbulifera. so far, the new species is known only from the sierra de taxco near the town of the same name.
Abstract: introduction: coronary illness affects a high proportion of affiliated with the seguro social (iss) departamento (=state) valle del cauca. this paper describes the costs in the specialty of interventionist cardiology of the health promoter enterprise (eps) because of this illness among november 2003-december 2004. the costs are larger than the budget of the iss for this illness. this unbalance inside security social system contemporary in colombia , that is a contributive regime, affects to the iss because a high number of affiliated are adults of 45 years. the compensated population of the iss valle del cauca is 423,440 people of which 43% is older 45 years, segment of age that concentrates the risk of coronary illness. metodology: it is a descriptive study. it analyses the distribution of compensated population by age and sex; besides the payment of iss valle del cauca to the health institutions (ips) in the interventionist cardiology specialty. the information was taken of the register made by the ips to the social secure institute and crossed with the individual registers of procedures in health (rips) to identify the patients with coronary illness and to rate them in accordance with the international illness codes (cie 10) likewise the book about activities, processing and interventions of the obligatory health program (mapipos). universe: 1,349 processing. the population was 1,103 affiliated patients with the seguro social with coronary illness diagnoses. analysis and results: the compensated population of iss represents 9.3% of valle del cauca population (4?532,378 inhabitants in the departamento and 423,400 compensated). of them 43% are 45 years old or more and are in risk for suffering coronary illness and need medical intervention. the iss valle del cauca paid out to ips with interventionist cardiology services the total of $5?320,786.046 more of five thousand millions pesos for 1,349 procedures realized to 1103 patients of coronary illness. this money rep
Ense?ar geografía para los nuevos tiempos
Paradígma , 2006,
Abstract: this a documental research?s advances about teaching geography for the new times and it arises from the problematic produces by the lack of implementation of learning strategies that could? promotes a pleasant, collaborative,? solving problems class, that it restrict to adapt itself to the quali-quantitative changes of the venezuelan educative process. one of the problems confronted by teaching geography is, fundamentally, the lack of sufficient motivation in the students, as a results of teacher centered classes, inadequate teaching strategies that don?t allows to integrate each student in the school work. furthermore, the excessive focus in descriptions and memorize facts,? copies, surcharges of tasks, rigidity and slant of the programs, whose? do not pay attention to the expectations of the children, beside the deficient methodology of novel lessons in agreement with the historical-social changes of the country.? this proposal focus in a more dynamic teaching, integrated to the specific reality of the student, it takes him or her to internalize the subjects of social science. particularly we? insisted on locating the teaching? of geography as part of the educative changes of the country, with emphasis in new methodology, contents and strategies of teaching this area. the circumstances and exigencies of a changing world demand a better preparation to accede in equal terms to the technical-scientists requirements of this society,? the teacher is the center of these innovations,? his or her daily contact with the classroom compromise them to a theorical -methodologic knowledge of the subjects that contributes to an innovating class in this discipline and whose aims looks to locate us in the experiential field of the educative task.
