Production of Hydrogen from Aqueous Phase Reforming of Glycerol: Economic Evaluation  [PDF]
Rodolfo Salazar Pérez, Mariana M. V. M. Souza, Neyda C. Om Tapanes, Gisel Chenard Diaz, Donato A. G. Aranda
Engineering (ENG) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/eng.2014.61003
Abstract:

Glycerol is the main byproduct from the production of biodiesel by transesterification of vegetable oils, and approximately 10% of total biodiesel production volume corresponds to glycerol. The profitability of various chemical processes depends, in part, on the sale of byproducts, which enables a reduction in the production costs and consequently, in the product’s final price. Thus, it is necessary to look for alternatives to solve the problem of glycerol buildup, in order to avoid future environmental impacts and make biodiesel competitive in the growing market of biofuels. In this context, this study’s objective is the development of a low cost and environmental clean technology that allows the conversion of glycerin into a greater value product. In this paper, an economic evaluation of production hydrogen using Aqueous Phase Reforming (APR) was conducted. Firstly, we detailed the technical assumptions in the study. Reactions were performed in batch reformer of 10 liters of capacity, at the temperature of 250℃ and pressure of 38 atm. Finally, a sensitivity analysis was performed. The results from economic evaluation show that APR of glycerol, using nickel catalysts supported on alumina or zirconium oxide, is a promising and competitive technology for hydrogen production.

Pérez Salazar,Mauricio;
Cuadernos de Economía , 2004,
Abstract: even though economics may be one of the social sciences, the relationship between it and the rest of them is often perceived as being problematical. this essay takes some of jesús antonio bejarano′s later work as its starting point for exploring this relationship. following a presentation of what can be considered as the foundations of the economic model of the individual and human interaction, it analyses bejarano′s criticisms of economics as being apolitical, non-institutional and amoral. it points out how bejarano suggests that the way towards revitalising economic thought necessarily involves intermingle with other areas of knowledge such as political science, administration and philosophy. it discuses two possible models for such an approach: economic imperialism and hybridisation. it concludes by making some reflections about the points of convergence between economics and law.
LA GENEALOGíA DEL LIBERALISMO: UNA LECTURA ECONóMICA DEL ?SEGUNDO TRATADO SOBRE EL GOBIERNO CIVIL? DE JOHN LOCKE
Pérez Salazar,Mauricio;
Revista de Economía Institucional , 1999,
Abstract: this paper presents an interpretation of john locke?s theory of political society. after reviewing the differences between locke?s and hobbes? ideas of individual, government and the importance of a rational discussion about the construction of political society, the article shows the role of individual freedom and consent as basis for explaining the situation of men in political society. the analysis of locke?s social contract shows how the creation of governement is the outcome of the search for economic efficiency, because it permits the reduction of transaction costs or what locke calls ?the inconveniences of the state of nature?.
NECESIDADES, DERECHOS Y POLíTICAS PúBLICAS: UNA MIRADA DESDE LA TEORíA ECONóMICA
Pérez Salazar,Mauricio;
Revista de Economía Institucional , 2009,
Abstract: adam smith held that needs comprise, ?not only those things which nature, but those things which the established rules of decency have rendered necessary?. in other words, they are socially determined. needs are not independent of the budget constraints faced by each society. as economic growth displaces the production possibility frontier, both the scope of goods and services considered needs and the material possibility of their satisfaction increase. the doctrine of progressive realization of economic and social rights is an answer to the problem of how to relate the expansion of the scope of these rights with the resources available to fulfill them. it is a deliberative process that also involves a change in social values and preferences that can be illustrated with wagner's law. this change leads to the gradual expansion of the set of goods and services that can be considered merit goods.

Salazar Pérez,Robinson;
Revista de Filosofía , 2009,
Abstract: this essay proposal is to analyze latin american public policies securitization, especially citizen safety ones, that hides inside their arguments, logistic, behavior and preparation, issues related with low-intensity conflict to break the structures and in other cases, eliminate popular and comunitary leaders, and also exerting control of the popular movements with the novel ingredient of the incorportion of organized crime as a support to perform murders, facilitate the arms traffic and negotiate the narco-amnesty to correspond the initiatives of the contrainsurgents plans in latin america, especially in mexico and central america. our reflection is about four issues: non existence governability whit civil disobedience institutionalized violence and legitimated organized crime, preventing wars: colombian plan and centroamerican lab of the police state.
EL ORIGEN DEL PáNICO DE 2008: LA CRISIS DEL MERCADO DE CRéDITO HIPOTECARIO EN ESTADOS UNIDOS
Pérez Salazar,Mauricio;
Revista de Economía Institucional , 2008,
Abstract: this article analyzes the causes of u.s. mortgage backed securities crisis, a crucial market in the financial panic of 2008. it shows that irrational behavior of investors is not infrequent, as evidenced by ponzi schemes and bubbles. a comparison is made between traditional and new models of mortgage financing, where the key difference is the new model that unlinks incentives for different agents in the value chain and the risks they assume. it concludes with some reflections on the lessons that the experience of the colombian mortgage crisis of 1998-2000 may offer for the resolution of the current crisis in the u.s.
La Web 2.0 y la sociedad de la información
Pérez Salazar, Gabriel;
Revista mexicana de ciencias políticas y sociales , 2011,
Abstract: the so called 2.0 web is placed as a phenomenon impelled in good measure by the paradigm of the society of information and how a created term from a fundamentally marketing perspective. the set of services and applications of web 2.0 is conceived as a heterogeneous group on which economic visions that form a part of the digital economy coexists with the focus that favors social aspects and group generation of knowledge. in this context, this article analyzes the resources of interactivity present in two emblematic places of web 2.0: you tube and wikipedia, in which he emphasizes the horizontality of the relationships between the users.
