Abstract: Liver lobation and intraparenchymal distribution of the portal vein was described according to studies performed in 10 specimens of Brazilian guinea pigs. The portal vein was cannulated and perfusedwith a vinyl acetate solution and the liver immersed in sulfuric acid solution to obtain vascular casts. The liver presented five lobes, which were named left lateral, left medial, square, right lateral, right medial, and caudate lobes with caudate and papillary processes. The portal vein, entering the portal fissure, divided into two branches, the right and left ones, as it entered the portal fissure. The right branch emitted isolated or common trunk branches to the right lateral lobe and to the caudate process of caudate lobe. On its turn, the left main branch of portal vein divided into two other branches. One of them formed a common trunk for the left lateral, left medial, and square lobes, being the two last ones in a common way. The second branch coursed towards to the right medial branch. Just after its formation, the common trunk of the left main branch emits small vascular branches to the papillary process of caudate lobe.

Abstract: The Galea is a rodent from the Cavidae family. The aim of this study was to describe the intraparenchymal origin and distribuition of the galea hepatic artery considering the inexistence of information in the literature. Animals (n=20) from Centro de Multiplica o de Animais Silvestres Mossoró-RN Brazil were evaluated after dying by natural causes. The animals were incised medially and the thoracic aorta was cannulated for injection of latex or vinyl. The animals perfused with latex were fixed in formaldehyde 10% and dissected after 72 hours. The ones perfused with vinyl acetate had their liver removed and immersed in a 30 % H2SO4 solution until the complete corrosion of its parenchyma. It was observed that the hepatic artery in galea originates from the celiac artery and, along the way toward the liver, it sends off the gastroduodenal artery and then the right gastric artery, continuing as proper hepatic artery. This one is divided into right and left branches or sends off an intermediate branch. The left branch proved to be a common trunk to the vessels destined to the left lateral, left medial and square lobes. The right branch of the hepatic artery sends off branches to right lateral, right medial and caudate lobes. The origin and distribution patterns of the intraparenchymal hepatic artery in galea is similar to other rodents.

Abstract: background and objectives: brachial plexus blockade by the interscalene approach, described by winnie, is one of the most effective techniques in promoting postoperative analgesia in surgeries of the shoulder. diaphragmatic paralysis is one of the consequences of this technique. this paralysis can cause respiratory failure in patients with prior lung dysfunction. brachial plexus blockade by the posterior approach has become increasingly more popular. the objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of diaphragmatic paralysis after interscalene brachial plexus blockade by the posterior approach with 0.2% ropivacaine. methods: twenty-two patients who underwent interscalene brachial plexus blockade by the posterior approach with 0.2% ropivacaine were evaluated in the postoperative period to identify radiological signs of elevation of the hemidiaphragm that could suggest hemidiaphragmatic paralysis. forty ml of 0.2% ropivacaine were used in 20 patients; inspiratory chest x-rays were done in these patients. twenty ml of 0.2% ropivacaine were used in two patients, with posterior fluoroscopic evaluation. results: there were no complications related to the procedure. the anesthesia was effective in every patient, providing good postoperative analgesia. every patient in this study presented elevation of the diaphragm compatible with hemidiaphragmatic paralysis. conclusions: we observed that brachial plexus blockade by the posterior approach is associated with a high prevalence of diaphragmatic paralysis, even with low concentrations of local anesthetics.
Advances and challenges of psychiatric reform in Brazil 22 years after the Caracas declaration
Domingos Sávio Nascimento Alves,Paulo Roberto Fagundes da Silva
Medwave , 2012,
Abstract: The authors present the psychiatric reform in Brazil (PRB) against the backdrop of the ideological and technical crisis of the care model previous to redemocratization and the Unified Healthcare System (SUS) creation. They emphasize the leading role of Caracas Declaration in 1990 and the normative initiatives taken by the Ministry of Health. The authors place the PRB legal framework in the context of the Federal Act 10.216/2001 and its positive effects. Implementation of community services, expressive reduction in psychiatric hospital beds and financial transition for the new care model are highlighted. Also are discussed the main current challenges concerning alcohol and drug abuse policies, the insufficient availability of psychiatric beds in general hospitals and the increase of hospitalizations covered by private health insurance.

As correla es genéticas entre as características foram: PLEI x CTOR = -0,37; PLEI x AG = -0,62; PLEI x CC = -0,52; PLEI x CT = -0,08; PLEI x DT = -0,12; PLEI x AU = -0,69; IPP x CTOR = -0,05; IPP x AG = -0,37; e IPP x CC = 0,25. As estimativas de correla es genéticas entre produ o de leite e medidas de tamanho corporal, de modo geral, indicam que a sele o para produ o de leite teria, como resposta correlacionada, diminui o do tamanho da vaca.

Abstract: isolate ufv-101 of bacillus cereus was selected in previous studies for promoting growth inducing resistance in plants. in a previous study, supernatant from cultures of the microorganism in a liquid medium was found to induce resistance in tomato foliage against the pathogens pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato, xanthomonas vesicatoria, alternaria solani and corynespora cassiicola. in the present work the microorganism was grown in a minimal medium for 48 h and the cells precipitated for centrifugation. the supernatant was concentrated by lyophilization, dialyzed in a 12 kda cut-off point membrane and fractioned in column containing sephadex g25 balanced in pbs buffer. the fractions corresponding to a protein peak were applied to tomato seedlings. after four days leaflets were collected and inoculated with the pathogen. c. cassiicola. the numbers of lesions produced by the pathogen on leaflets exposed to the bacterial supernatant were similar to those exposed to acibenzolar-s-methyl but fewer than in those treated with water. it is concluded that the supernatant contained protein which induced resistance in the tomato leaves against c. cassiicola.

Abstract: The present work aims to register the occurrence of the fruit flies associated to star fruit (Averrhoa carambola L.) in three counties of the state of Piaui, as well as to determine the frequency and the index of infestation of these insects. The fruits had been collected during the months of August and September 2005, and had been placed in plastic trays with sterilized soil, stored in metal cages, and left in environmental temperature at the laboratory. Until emergency, the adults had been kept in bottles with alcohol 70% and later identified in the species level. The biggest index of infestation (flies/fruit) of C. capitata has occurred in the county of Altos (3.66), followed by Teresina and Parnaiba that had presented index of infestation of 2.18 and 0.016, respectively. C. capitata was the most frequent species in all the counties, presenting frequencies of 100%, 96.5%, and 100% in Teresina, Altos and Parnaiba, respectively. Ceratitis capitata is registered for the first time in star fruit in Teresina, Altos and Parnaiba, state of the Piaui. Anastrepha fraterculus is registered for the first time in the county of Altos. A. fraterculus and C. capitata occur simultaneously in star fruits.
