MyE-Wall: Design of a Web Portal Fully Customizable and Ontology Based
Roberto Paiano,Andrea Roggerone
Brain. Broad Research in Artificial Intelligence and Neuroscience , 2011,
Abstract: Web is a measureless growing information source. Here we could have the common user that surf the web for fun, and the particular user surfing the web to work, for instance, the financial analyst that hopes to find some financial information. These users are similar in their habit to visit ever a pool of 10-15 websites where they are sure to find interesting information. In this paper, we introduce the architecture of a Rich Internet Application (RIA) that uses the power of Semantics to create a new type of Web Portal fully customizable that we will call MyE-Wall. In this portal, the user can’t attach widget, but modules containing each one the section of a particular web site. Therefore, the idea is allow a user to create of a new website composed by a patchwork of different website’s sections selected by himself. Here we use semantics for two reasons: (i) to process the structure of a particular website and create the corresponding module to attach on the portal (ii) to provide the application of a set of features (reasoning engine, swrl rules, etc...) to reason on the information collected, according the preferences that the user could have specified in his own profile.
Semantic Integration of Information Systems
Anna Lisa Guido,Roberto Paiano
International Journal of Computer Networks & Communications , 2010,
Abstract: In the previous years Information System manage only information inside the company, today a companymay search and manage information of the other companies. In this scenario the problem ofcommunication between Information Systems is of the highest importance. Up to the present moment, several types of integration have been used but all were founded on the agreement (about data to shareand the exchange format) between the interested Information Systems. Today, thanks to the newtechnologies, it is possible that an Information System uses data of another Information System without aprevious agreement. The problem is that, often, the Information System may refer to the same data butwith different names. In this paper we present a methodology that, using ontology, and thus the intrinsicsemantic of each data of the Information System, allow to create a global ontology useful to enable asemantic communication between Information Systems.
Semantic Data Integration: Overall Architecture

Communications of the IBIMA , 2009,
Abstract: The information has always been a valuable patrimony for the information systems that every company tries to capitalize as much as possible. With the web, the amount of information is increased and several problems arise for instance for the safety of the exchanged data but also to the semantic heterogeneity: the same information is very often represented in different ways in different information systems. In this paper we present an architecture of interchange of data both within the same information system and among different information systems founded on the ontologies in order to overcome the problem list of the heterogeneity. Ontologies, today, they seem to be the best tool useful to resolve the problem of heterogeneity, but that has not now been exploited fully.
MA-IS: Design of Information System in a Multi-Agents Environment
Roberto Paiano,Anna Lisa Guido,Enrico Pulimeno
Journal of Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics , 2009,
Abstract: The complexity of the information systems has recently had a remarkable increase, mostly thanks to the enormous impact that it has had in the multi-agent system (MAS) area; hence the need to integrate two systems and obtain an IS that takes advantage of the potentialities of the MAS. To this purpose, a methodology to analyze and design a multi-agent system is needed. In order to define such a methodology, which should take into account all the aspects of the MAS, first we need to establish not only a conceptual model of the system but also a communication level model. In this paper we propose the use of DDS framework for the communication level and the use of the BWW ontology for representation and design of the domain knowledge base. The idea of the above-mentioned methodology was conceived in the SISTDE project, which uses the ontology for the description of the domain, so as to provide the agents with a knowledge base that concurs to define their behaviour according to external events. In addition to this, the experience we have matured in the IS modelling using the BWW ontology is a key-point of our approach.
Collaborative Business Applications: A New Methodological Approach
Roberto Paiano,Andrea Pandurino,Leonardo Mangia,Palmalisa Marra
IBIMA Business Review , 2011,
Abstract: The introduction of the Enterprise 2.0 philosophy is to make the companies more flexible by improving the collaboration between the employees. The real application of this concept doesn’t concern about a simple adoption of a new technology but a more complex change that involves all company’s sectors. Today, there is not a unique and well-know methodology to design this innovation inside the business process and applications. The collaboration aspects were not properly considered in the panorama of the traditional methodologies to model collaborative business applications. Thus, in this paper in order to fill this gap, we introduce a new methodological approach supported and explained through real case studies.
Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry Analysis of Perfluorooctane Sulfonate and Perfluorooctanoic Acid in Fish Fillet Samples

Journal of Analytical Methods in Chemistry , 2012, DOI: 10.1155/2012/719010
Abstract: Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic (PFOA) acid are persistent contaminants which can be found in environmental and biological samples. A new and fast analytical method is described here for the analysis of these compounds in the edible part of fish samples. The method uses a simple liquid extraction by sonication, followed by a direct determination using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The linearity of the instrumental response was good, with average regression coefficients of 0.9971 and 0.9979 for PFOS and PFOA, respectively, and the coefficients of variation (CV) of the method ranged from 8% to 20%. Limits of detection (LOD) were 0.04?ng/g for both the analytes and recoveries were 90% for PFOS and 76% for PFOA. The method was applied to samples of homogenized fillets of wild and farmed fish from the Mediterranean Sea. Most of the samples showed little or no contamination by perfluorooctane sulfonate and perfluorooctanoic acid, and the highest concentrations detected among the fish species analyzed were, respectively, 5.96?ng/g and 1.89?ng/g. The developed analytical methodology can be used as a tool to monitor and to assess human exposure to perfluorinated compounds through sea food consumption. 1. Introduction Perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) are a large group of chemicals characterized by a fully fluorinated hydrophobic chain and an hydrophilic head. Such properties, in combination with a high chemical stability, make these compounds unique for their ability to repel both water and oils. Over the last 40 years PFCs have been produced for a large number of applications, such as surface treatments for coatings, clothes, carpets, packaging products, cookware, and food contact papers. Nowadays they are global contaminants which have been detected in environmental and biological samples from different areas worldwide [1–8]. Among these compounds, perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) seem to meet the criteria of persistence, biomagnifications, and long-distance transport to be included in the definition of persistent organic pollutants (POPs), under the Stockholm Convention; moreover they cause particular concern because they have been shown to be carcinogenic in experimental animals [9–11]. Detailed toxicological studies have suggested that peroxisome proliferation, hepatotoxicity, carcinogenicity, immunotoxicity, lipid metabolism, and developmental toxicity may be associated with chemical exposure to PFOS and PFOA [12–15]. Despite the fact that an increasing number of

Acta Scientiarum : Animal Sciences , 2007,
Two trials were carried out to study the energy restriction (3200, 2960 and 2720 kcal of ME kg-1) for late finishing pigs, by means ofadding dietary fiber (ground rice hull). Experiment I - 36 pigs were used (69.39 ± 5.38 kg). The variables studied (performance, carcass traits and PUN) were separated according to the slaughter weight (70-90 kg and 90-115 kg). 12 pigs weighting 87.55 ± 3.12 kg and 15pigs weighting 115.41 ± 6.20 kg were slaughtered. None of the variables studied were influenced by the different levels of ME. Experiment II -15 barrows were used (84.8 ± 4.5 kg) and kept on metabolism crates. There was a linear increase of total feces, dry matter (DM) and organic matter output, according to dietary energy reduction, without causing an increase in total phosphorous (P) and nitrogen (N) excretion. Digestibility coefficient of DM and crude protein decreased, which led to a decrease in daily weight gain and anincrease in feed: gain ratio. Results suggest the possibility to slaughter high lean meat pigs, weighting up to 115 kg, without impairing performance and carcass traits, regardless dietaryenergy level. However, total feces output increased without causing an increase in N and P excretion, as
