Memories of science education in Brazil: the physics education research

Abstract: Recordings made in the last few decades, like as papers, congresses proceedings, research groups reports and interviews recently taken among researchers, allowed to rescue some details of the path drawn by the Physics Education research in Brazil. The interpretation of certain sense effects conferred by the interviewees and other in the recordings analyzed, allows us to perceive the plurality of this area of study, the diversity of factors considered important to its constitution and some characteristics of the research in this area.

Abstract: this paper is part of a broader research on astronomy education and teachers' education, presenting a national overview about this subject. it tries to set up a classification system for brazilian astronomy institutions and other enterprises, taking into consideration their aims, such as formal, informal, non-formal education, as well those addressed to the popularization of this science. we comment, in a brief essay, the importance of the contextual performance of these instances for the astronomy education, raising a challenge to be considered, related to the study of possible relations among these institutions and enterprises, aiming the advancement of the astronomy education, in a motion against the local and punctual activities dispersion and pulverization. we argue that the research in astronomy education has potential to exert this joint role.
Interpreting future physics teachers reflections on their professional practice during initial formation: the search for teaching autonomy construction

Abstract: This research intends to answer the following main question: which traces of teacher autonomy construction are possible to achieve during reflective formative processes in disciplines like Methodology and Physics Teaching Practice carried out during three semesters, in an undergraduate program designed to physics teachers′ initial education? Using an analytical device based on teachers education research assumptions, which we called convergent formative triangulation for progressive teaching autonomy, we had as a main objective the search for the chance to achieve progressive levels of teachers autonomy, according to its three teacher professionalization models, present in a critical and transformative perspective, relating them to the current formative paradigms: the contents based one, the humanist, the activist, the reflective and the technical (approaches we called CHART). Taking into consideration future physics teachers′ collective reflections about their own teaching practice, this research was supported by the following methodological instruments: focus group, coaching, self-confrontation and formative assessment, taking the discourse analysis as background. The outcomes of this research, which followed a sample of 40 future High School physics teachers during three semesters, through the use of five formative steps (planning, implementation, reflection, socialization, involvement and continuity), revealed the evidences of teachers autonomy construction, probably provided by their own teaching practice collective reflections, according to the analytical device used. This research showed that the reflections brakes provided during the process can allow the future teachers to position themselves critically in relation to their future pedagogical activities, even after their initial training. This experience leads us to rethink how subjects like Methodology and Teaching Practice have been teaching in the teachers’ education programs at the universities, where usually theory and practice are dissociated.

Abstract: Emergency Medicine is known as a high stress specialty. The adverse effect of constantly rotating shifts is the single most important reason given for premature attrition from the field. In this work problems tied with night shift work will be taken into account and some solutions to reduce the impact of night work on the emergency physicians will be proposed.

Abstract: Hospitals must develop programs to prevent aggressive events on work. It is necessary to create multidisciplinary work teams to identify risk factors and to elaborate strategies for prevention and management. It is essential to make health workers aware and adequately trained to face the risk to be victim of violence. They should know strategies to reduce the risk too. Hospital organisations must activate precise procedures to assure sanitary, psychological and legal support for whom has suffered violence at work.
Communication in the Observation Units

Abstract: Communication between doctors and patients in the Observation Units has peculiar characteristics, shared with emergency psychology and in-ward relationships. The emergency physician must keep in mind that a good relation with his patients is an important part of the cure process. One should leave time to listen to the patient, understand his anxiety, not to separate him from his relatives. This behavior will reduce conflicts between doctors and patients improving the quality of their relations. The dynamics among doctors themselves, nurses and sanitary technicians must be considered too.

Abstract: We describe in this paper, an experiment to be carried out in the Departament of Physics, Universidade Estadual de Londrina. In this experiment, a self-tutorial method, where the use of microcomputers as an auxiliary aid is employed for the teaching of Basic Physics. Methodology, underlying of the basic phylosophy the method, and the programming techniques to be used, are here discussed. No presente trabalho uma experiência em ensino a ser realizada no Departamento de Física da Universidade Estadual de Londrina. A experiência utiliza um método autotutorial para ensino de Física Básica através do uso de microcomputadores como meio auxiliar de ensino.

Abstract: the present article reports partial outcomes of a study that aimed to verify future high school teachers' performance. a group of undergraduates were taking a course called "teaching practice" where they were required to plan, elaborate and teach, in classroom settings, topics relating to thermology to a class which included students with visual impairments. data that was collected showed that, on the one hand, the main difficulties presented by future physics high school teachers were related to the approach to understanding phenomena in physics in a visually dependent way. on the other hand, these future teachers demonstrated creativity in overcoming passive attitudes relative to this educational problem and were able to develop methodological strategies unhindered by the knowing/seeing relation.
