The MACBA and the CCCB. From cultural regeneration to cultural government
Joaquim Rius
DIGITHUM , 2006,
Abstract: Twenty-five years on from the idea to open cultural institutions in Barcelona's Raval district, and ten years since they opened their doors, it is now time to take stock of the MACBA (Barcelona's Museum of Contemporary Art) and the CCCB (Barcelona's Contemporary Culture Centre).Why were two important cultural institutions, the MACBA and the CCCB, opened in the Raval, a district in the old town with serious social problems? How did a vague idea based on traditional models for art museums and multidisciplinary centres become two unique models and points of reference both locally and internationally? The explanation that we have is that it went from a project based on cultural regeneration to models for unique cultural institutions that are the launch pad for what we call cultural government.This article is the result of research into the cultural policy system in Catalonia and the transformation of the Raval district, which has led to the PhD thesis entitled "A new paradigm for cultural policy. The case study of Barcelona" under the supervision of Arturo Rodríguez Morató (UB) and Pierre-Michel Menger (EHESS).
Hasta cuándo la religión?
Rius, Mercè
Isegoría , 2012,
Abstract: A hot sociopolitical issue today is the extent to which religions should be publicly represented. This text discusses the state of the question critically focusing on the main and common argument used by all the experts: liberty of conscience understood as freedom of choice. We are not allowed to identify both kinds of freedom without erasing the necessary division between religion and politics. Nevertheless, the elimination of this division not only occurs in practice but also in the theoretical outlines of the advocates of secularism based on freedom of choice. As the whole question concerns the monotheism of reason , the philosophical discourse should not be a simple mediator between the different parts.
Symmetry Non-restoration at High Temperature
N. Rius
Physics , 1998,
Abstract: We discuss the (non)-restoration of global and local symmetries at high temperature. First, we analyze a two-scalar model with $Z_2 \times Z_2$ symmetry using the exact renormalization group. We conclude that inverse symmetry breaking is possible in this kind of models within the perturbative regime. Regarding local symmetries, we consider the $SU(2) \otimes U(1)$ gauge symmetry and focus on the case of a strongly interacting scalar sector. Employing a model-independent chiral Lagrangian we find indications of symmetry restoration.
Del Movimiento de Trabajadores Desocupados a la cooperativa social: Trabajo y formas de militancia en la economía social
Rius,Pía Valeria;
Trabajo y sociedad , 2011,
Abstract: this article studies forms of work and militancy practices in desocupados' (unemployed workers') movements (mtd). it compares the militants' and the non-militants' conceptions of work observed in the same social milieu. it analyzes a textile cooperative in the city of berisso between 2003 and 2007. from an ethnographic standpoint, the article explores the relationships established between members and non-members, in particular, links between families, acquaintances and vecinos (neighbors). the analysis does not focus on the movement as political actor but conceptions of justice, notions of work and economic activity. political activities turn into work. work remains at the heart of representations of worthy activity but encompasses new practices. finally, the way discourse and the spoken word are apprehended by members and non-members within the groups signals a form of publicity supported by mutual, albeit fragile, agreements, through which discussion emerges in the workplace.
Veredas and their use by birds in the Cerrado, South America: a review
Tubelis,rius Pukenis;
Biota Neotropica , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1676-06032009000300031
Abstract: in the cerrado, veredas are linear physiognomies that occur on hydromorphic soil usually along narrow water courses. they often growth on flat terrain or near headwaters. they are characterised by the abundance of buriti palms (mauritia flexuosa) that growth over other trees, numerous shrubs and a dense herbaceous stratum. despite being common landscape elements through the cerrado's extension, the use of veredas by birds has not been examined in detail. this study aimed to review studies of birds and veredas in the cerrado. publications (n = 25) reported the use of veredas by 261 bird species. only 13 of them had aspects of their biology (reproduction and feeding) studied in detail. veredas are poorly used by cerrado's endemic species, but are the major habitat requirement of several species. the richness of bird species found in veredas is increased by their inclusion in the home range of forest, savanna and grassland species. this study also discusses the values of veredas to the regional biodiversity, and the major threats to their conservation inside and outside the system of nature reserves. suggestions for future research on birds and veredas in cerrado also are provided.
Proposal of a Geographic Information System for modeling zoonotic fasciolosis transmission in the Andes
Parasitología latinoamericana , 2004, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-77122004000100010
Abstract: the present study describes the basis for the development of a geographic information system (gis) for conducting an epidemiological analysis of human and animal fasciolosis in the andes. the methodology proposes the use of various data bases - those derived from epidemiological mutidisciplinary studies and environmental data derived from terrestrial stations and remote sensing
?Violencia invisible o del éxtasis al dolor?
Fernández Rius, Lourdes;
Revista Estudos Feministas , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-026X2008000100015
Abstract: the values and roles for each gender are not socially recognized in an impartial way. it is a cultural construction that seeks, relying on the differences and, on a dichotomous hierarchy and power, to establish an inequality that reinforces the supremacy of masculinity as a value. in patriarchal culture - as a trend - men tend to be the most violent, and women to have a behavior of dependence and docility. therefore the coupling relationships associated with fantasies of love are a space of power and are constantly harassed by experiences of servitude and domination. difference - hierarchy - inequality - discrimination - violence, invisible feedback circuit that culture reedits daily and which expresses itself from psychological form to extreme damages primarily toward women on the amorous relationship.
