Abstract: the viability of the use the bovine umbilical membrane preserved in 98% glycerin implanted in the cervical trachea was studied. seven adult mongrel dogs, three males and four females weighting 6 to 14 kg, were used. after the usual anesthesia protocol and asseptic technique, three tracheal rings were partially removed for implantation of a segment of the umbilical membrane. the animals were observed during 30 days and then reoperated for macroscopic observations and for fragment collection for histological evaluation. it occurred a repair of the tracheal lesion, with formation of granulation tissue rich in collagen fibers linking the extremities of the tracheal cartilages. epithelial migration over the tracheal surface was also seen. it is concluded that the segment of the bovine umbilical cord preserved in 98% glycerin can be used in the repair of tracheal defects. it offers a temporary support for granulation tissue formation and epithelization in the implanted area.

Materials Sciences and Applications (MSA) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/msa.2012.36058
Abstract: In the present work a niobium based complex cubic perovskite oxide Ca2AlNbO6 ceramic was produced, characterized and studied its stability in crude petroleum environment for inert ceramic embedding for temperature sensors used in petroleum extraction. Ca2AlNbO6 ceramic powder was prepared through thermo-mechanical processing. Structural characteristics of calcined material was investigated by powder X-ray diffarctometry, which presented a single phase complex cubic perovskite structure with lattice parameter a = 7.6599 ?. Compacted discs of Ca2AlNbO6 ceramics were sintered in the temperature range 1250°C - 1350°C during 24 hours in ambient atmosphere. Microstructure of the sintered ceramics was studied by scanning electron microscopy and mechanical behavior was studied by Vicker’s microhardness testing. Ca2AlNbO6 ceramics sintered at 1350°C presented best results in terms of microstructural homogeneity and mechanical hardness. Therefore these sintered ceramics were submerged in crude petroleum for 60 days. Ceramics were taken out from the petroleum periodically and subjected to structural, microstructural and mechanical characterizations. Results showed that ceramics submerged in crude petroleum did not suffer any change at any stage of submersion. These characteristics make this material suitable for inert ceramic embedding for sensors used in petroleum extraction.
O protesto negro no Brasil contemporaneo (1978-2010)
Rios, Flavia;
Lua Nova: Revista de Cultura e Política , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-64452012000100003
Abstract: the street protest is, in this article, the privileged analytical unit to study the political history of brazilian black movement. the analysis includes the political process since its inaugural act - which would open the curtains of a new cycle of mobilization in the nest of struggles in a democratic society strongly mobilized against dictatorship - to the institucionalization of its demands and its political leaders, who are now agents of the racial equality at the instituted public power.
Letters in a community organisation: a case of powerful literacy
Rios, Guilherme;
DELTA: Documenta??o de Estudos em Lingüística Teórica e Aplicada , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-44502005000300008
Abstract: in this paper i examine discourse in five letters written by executive members of a resident's association in the city of brasilia, by integrating critical discourse analysis and the new literacy studies. these letters were part of a campaign from the association to prevent students of a nearby college from parking their car in the residential street, since the overload of parked cars made difficult the flow of vehicles. a case is made on the efficacy of the discursive and semiotic resources drawn on the letters to have community aims met.

EXPRESS ES FRANCESAS NO DIA-A-DIA DO GOIANIENSE: SUBSíDIOS PARA A PRONúNCIA DO FRANCêS
LUIZ RIOS
Effective interaction dependence of the liquid-gas phase transition in symmetric nuclear matter
A. Rios
Physics , 2010, DOI: 10.1016/j.nuclphysa.2010.05.057
Abstract: The liquid-gas phase transition for homogeneous symmetric nuclear matter is studied in the mean-field approximation. Critical properties are computed using a comprehensive group of Skyrme and Gogny forces in an effort to elucidate the effective interaction dependence of the results. Analytical models for the thermodynamical and critical properties are discussed and compared to an extensive set of mean-field data. In agreement with these models, a tight correlation is found between the flashing and the critical points. Accurate predictions for the critical temperature, based on saturation properties, can only be obtained after the density dependence of the effective mass is properly taken into account. While the thermodynamical properties coming from different mean-fields do not follow a law of corresponding states, the critical exponents for all the mean-fields have been found to be the same. Their values coincide with those predicted by the Landau mean-field theory of critical phenomena.
