Desarrollos del analisis factorial para el estudio de item dicotomicos y ordinales
Richaud,María Cristina;
Interdisciplinaria , 2005,
Abstract: factor analysis has been used in formulating conceptual models in personality and personality assessment, as well as in the process of construction of personality scales. factor analysis assumes continuously measured interval level data. however, applications of the factor analysis model in the personality literature frequently are conducted using dichotomous or ordinal data obtained at the item level. it has been proposed several solutions for studying dichotomous or ordinal data. christoffersson (1978) introduced a method for factor analyzing dichotomous data using tetra-choric correlations. muthén (1984) extended this method to provide a less computationally heavy approach. standard factor analysis implies two different levels of variables: unobserved factors, and observed indicators for those factors (items). the generalized least squares method to the factor analysis of dichotomous data requires one additional intermediate level between the observed data and the latent variable. thus two levels of abstraction are involved in the analysis: observed dichotomous or ordered categorical items are linked to unobserved latent response variables via tetra-choric or polychoric correlations. these unobserved latent response variables then serve as the indicators for the factors. in this model the factors summarize the relations among latent variables rather than directly among observed variables. another method for the factor analysis of dichotomous or ordered categorical items is that of maximum likelihood. as in the case of the generalized least squares method, the maximum likelihood approach use tetrachoric correlations among items, but approximates a numerical integration of a distribution of observations, assumed to be normal, using weighted sums. there exist also parallel analysis programs (buja, & eyuboglu, 1992; horn, 1965) that produce data sets based in aleatory numbers normally distributed, generated by the computer (o'connor, 2000). another manner of analysis

Abstract: AI[)S has become a very serious tbreat to humanity, because of ita medical, social, and ecological implications. Behavioral workers, including physicians and psychologists, have useful tools to face tbe epidemy and to present solutions. The obstacles encountered are described. Some pmposals are presented eentered on preventionand therapy, based on Arranz and Bayés (1988). The important roles of behavior modification and tberapy for AIDS are pointed out

A Review Study of Psychometric Functioning of a Picture Scale to Assess Joy in Childhood  [PDF]
Laura Beatriz Oros, María Cristina Richaud de Minzi
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2015.63022
Abstract: The early emergence of emotional understanding by means of facial expressions allows the assessment of basic emotions from young ages through pictures or photographs of human faces. This evaluation strategy allows children, with limited language to reveal feelings that neither investigators nor clinicians would be able to obtain verbally. The present work presents a non-verbal activity aimed at testing children’s joy. It is based on a visual analogue scale integrated by seven pictures of infant facial expressions. This scale has the advantage of presenting an animated design, more friendly and appealing than simplified face scales. Its psychometric functioning, revised from different studies, demonstrates that it is a reliable and valid alternative to analyze the experience of joy in small children.
Subjective and objective causality in science: A topic for Attribution theory?
Richaud de Minzi,María Cristina;
Interdisciplinaria , 2004,
Abstract: this paper will examine scientific thinking from the attribution model. according to the classical view, science was defined as the product of objective knowledge of an external reality which followed its own laws, independently from the observer who tried to uncover its secrets. despite that, it is also incorrect to understand science as the consequence of a totally irrational mind, completely immersed in the attribution patterns of the researcher who, against all evidence to the contrary, continues holding exclusively the facts which his perception allows him to see. the cognitive theory of attribution permits a gradual change from the belief or attribution system of people in general and scientists in particular, whenever such beliefs prove to be insufficient or non-functional for explaining an environment that is constantly interacting with the individual, offering feedback and correcting his attributions. it is obviously a slow process, since it implies changing and sometimes substituting beliefs, partially and not wholly or suddenly. this perspective would ground an understanding of science as a construction dependent on a system of knowledge. this system would be warranted by rationality through contrasting tests, and it is not an objective, aseptic, and perfectly rational system; nor is it the reign of pure irrationality, and attribution, reluctant to any clear signs of non-functionality.
Development of coping resources in chilhood and adolescence
Richaud de Minzi,María Cristina;
Interdisciplinaria , 2004,
Abstract: the works here presented show the importance of primary relationships in the development of positive resources to cope with menace and that interactions with peers during childhood and early adolescence reflect patterns learnt within the family. when children feel accepted by their parents they find it easier to adapt; while a relationship which is perceived as inappropriate, particularly if it is experienced as distant, is usually associated with non-adaptive coping, such as inhibition. the most common negative relationship between mother and child seems to be the former's distancing; in the case of the father, once his influence becomes more significant, there is hostility as well as distancing. lastly, social primary interactions appear to have a remarkable influence, especially on impulsiveness, aggressive behaviour and lack of attention in children. apparently, it seems quite clear that parents' the mother's in particular, and peer perception interact to shape the child's behaviour. finally, the relationship with a mother with a permissive style which fosters autonomy, defends adolescents from feelings of deep loneliness.
A critical review of lexical analysis and Big Five model Una revisión crítica del enfoque lexicográfico y del modelo de los cinco factores

Revista de Psicología , 2002,
Abstract: In the last years the idea has resurfaced that traits can be measured in a reliable and valid and this can be useful inthe prediction of human behavior. The five-factor model appears to represent a conceptual and empirical advances in the field of personality theory. Necessary orthogonal factors (Goldberg, 1992, p. 26) to show the relationships between the descriptors of the features in English is five, and its nature can be summarized through the broad concepts of Surgency, Agreeableness, Responsibility, Emotional Stability versus neuroticism and openness to experience (John, 1990, p96) Furthermore, despite the criticisms that have been given to the model, represents a breakthrough in the field of personality assessment. This approach means a contribution to the study of personality, without being the integrative model of personality.
