Abstract: organogenic cultures were induced from zygotic embryo and megagametophyte explants of the chiapas state (méxico) endangered cycad species, dioon merolae. the litz induction medium consisted of b5 major salts, ms medium minor salts and the organics glutamine (400mg·l-1), arginine (100mg·l-1), asparagines (100mg·l-1), sucrose (60g·l-1), gellan gum (4g), and supplemented with 0, 0.45, 2.26, 4.52 and 9.05μm 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-d) and 0, 2.32, 4.60, 9.30, 13.90μm kinetin (k), arranged as a 5′5 factorial in a randomized block design. cultures were maintained in darkness at 25°c, and callus was subcultured onto fresh medium at 4 week intervals. callus initiation occurred on a wide range of plant growth regulators (pgr) combinations from megagametophyte explants. in comparison, callus initiation from explanted zygotic embryos occurred on few pgr combinations. adventitious shoot induction occurred from callus on formulations with k and 2,4-d. through the histological analysis of longitudinal sections of zygotic embryos were detected apical meristematic cells of the shoot and root and in megagametophytes the formation of elements similar to tracheids and coralloid roots. this technique has a great potential for preservation of the highly endangered cycads.
L-arabinose production by hidrolysis of mesquite gum by a crude extract with α-L-arabinofuranosidase activity from Aspergillus niger

Abstract: a crude enzymatic extract from aspergillus niger 10 with α-l-arabinofuranosidase activity (ec 3.2.1.55) was obtained and its effect on the hydrolysis of mesquite gum was determined and compared to that of a commercial α-l-arabinofuranosidase from a. niger. the growth parameters of a. niger 10 obtained were xmax = 3.03 g l-1 and μmax = 0.07 h-1. the maximum enzymatic activity obtained was 65.93 u l-1. optimum temperature and activation energy for the crude extract were 50°c and 46.15 kj mol-1 and for the commercial enzyme 40 °c and 52.76 kj mol-1, respectively. the apparent kinetic parameters km and vmax for the crude extract were 4.87 g l-1 and 0.15 μmol min-1 g-1, and for the commercial enzyme 76.45 g l-1 and 3.85 /mol min-1 g-1, respectively. yields of l-arabinose recovery for the crude extract and the commercial enzyme were 17.04 % and 2.78 %, respectively, based on the reported average content of l-arabinose in mesquite gum.

Abstract: the mesquite gum (mg) production from prosopis laevigata cells suspension culture in a stirred tank type bioreactor, with characteristics similar to those of mg obtained from wild trees are reported. the cells showed a specific growth rate (μ) of 0.08 1/d and a viability of over 60 %, reaching a maximum biomass of 16.6 g dry mass (dm)/l after 14 d. the cells produced a gum made up by 83.5% of carbohydrates (l-arabinose, d-galactose and glucuronic acid) and 8.1% of protein, also detected arabinogalactan-proteins (agps) as constituents of the gum. oil-in-water emulsions were p repared usmg as continuous phase aqueous solutions of mg obtained from wild trees and that produced in bioreactor (mgb). the emulsifying capacity of mgb was slightly superior, but the emulsion stability lower, than that obtained with mg.
Sistema único de Saúde: modalidades de atendimento e suas inter-rela es, um olhar da enfermagem

Abstract: O presente estudo teve como quest o pesquisa as modalidades de atendimento das institui es de saúde do SUS e as suas inter-rela es. Desta maneira, objetivou-se, identificar as diferentes modalidades de atendimento ao cliente do SUS oferecidas pelas institui es/organiza es/servi os de saúde do município do Rio Grande, assim como compreender as rela es que mantêm entre si e de que forma se processam as suas inter-rela es nos servi os e a es de saúde. Construiu-se um referencial teórico capaz de dar sustenta o para o desenvolvimento da pesquisa, na perspectiva da saúde como um sistema, tendo como ponto de referência a teoria de sistemas com abordagem de Bronfenbrenner (1996), dentre outros. Para obter as informa es utilizou-se como caminho metodológico a pesquisa qualitativa, descritiva e exploratória. A coleta de dados processou-se através do método da entrevista semi-estruturada, aplicado de agosto a setembro de 2006, a quatorze sujeitos: coordenadores dos diversos servi os de entrada e encaminhamento de clientes do SUS do município do Rio Grande. A última quest o da entrevista era aberta, deixando espa o para os entrevistados propor sugest es que julgassem pertinentes. O processo de análise levou em considera o as categorias estabelecidas previamente: modalidades de atendimento, equipe multiprofissional e inter-rela es das modalidades de atendimento. Evidenciaram-se na análise e interpreta o dos dados as diferentes modalidades de atendimento oferecidas aos usuários do SUS, mostrando que cada uma apresenta peculiaridades próprias e que o desconhecimento de outras, talvez, seja o motivo do n o oferecimento, pois as mesmas poderiam auxiliar na oferta de mais a es e servi os para esta clientela, trazendo solu es para a demanda reprimida e diminuindo o custo com a interna o hospitalar. Percebeu-se no oferecimento das modalidades de atendimento, a presen a constante da equipe multiprofissional como elemento fundamental na execu o das a es e servi os, destacando-se a forte participa o do profissional enfermeiro. Embora pressupondo, inicialmente, que as institui es/organiza es/servi os oferecem as modalidades de forma desarticulada, constatou-se ao longo deste trabalho, que nem sempre acontece dessa maneira. Existe por parte dos trabalhadores das três institui es de saúde um grande empenho para conseguir tanto o encaminhamento do cliente para exames como para a possível interna o ou outro atendimento a ser oferecido pelas institui es integrantes do SUS. Abstract: El presente trabajo se propone problematizar la Sociedad del Conocimiento y el carácter dominante que asume ésta frente a las "necesidades educativas", al mismo tiempo que preguntarse acerca de cuál es la racionalidad que le subyace y le da sentido a la "necesidad" de unos conocimientos y la redundancia de otros. Nuestra atención pretende ser focalizada en las interpelaciones que se le hacen a la universidad pública en este contexto y cómo esta asume ser interpelada a la luz de sus propias tradiciones. Abstract:

Radiochromic film with a dye incorporated into the radiation sensitive layer [Gafchromic EBT2, Ashland, Inc.] may be digitized by a color transparency scanner, digitally processed, and calibrated so that a digital image in units of radiation absorbed dose is obtained. A transformation from raw scanner values to dose values was developed based upon a principal component analysis of the optical densities of the red, green and blue channels of the color image of a dose of 0.942 Gy delivered by a Sr-90/Y-90 disk-shaped source. In the order of increasing eigenvalue, the three eigenimages of the principal component analysis contained, by visual inspection, 1) mainly noise; 2) mainly a pattern of irregular streaks; and 3) most of the expected dose information along with some of the same background streaking that predominated in the second eigenimage. The combination of the second and third eigenimages that minimized the background streaking was converted into a transformation of the red, green and blue channels optical densities and applied to films with a range of doses from 0 to 63.7 Gy. The curve of dose vs. processed optical density was fit by a two-phase association curve. This processing was applied to a film exposed from its edge by a different Y-90 source in a configuration that was modeled by Monte Carlo simulation. The depth-dose curves of the measurement and simulation agree closely, suggesting that this approach is a valid method of processing EBT2 radiochromic film into maps of radiation absorbed dose.

Abstract:

Segmental arterial mediolysis (SAM) is an uncommon non-inflammatory iatrogenic arteriopathy caused by alpha-1 adrenergic agonists or Beta-2 agonists able to release norepinephrine from the peripheral nervous system. Causative agents include adrenergic agonists used to control blood pressure, B-2 tocolytic agonists, and ractopamine used as a repartitioning agent in animal husbandry. The liberated norepinephrine both injures and stimulates a robust reparative response in the muscular arteries in the abdomen, brain base, and coronary arteries. This response may be augmented by endothelin-1 formed in the arterial adventitia. Three types of arterial lesions develop in the injurious stage: 1) apoptotic induced mediolysis, 2) separation of the outer media from the adventitia and 3) the formation of arterial gaps. The latter enlarge, particularly in elderly patients, to form gap-aneurysms complicated by dissections and dissecting an- eurysms that when ruptured cause the calamitous hemorrhages that clinically announce SAM. The other types of injury remain clinically silent but with repair develop sequelae and can metamorphose into fibromuscular dysplasia. The sequelae are mainly asymptomatic but may cause arterial stenosis and ischemic lesions. The definitive diagnosis of SAM re- quires histological conformation but misinterpreta- tion of smooth muscle vacuolar change has caused di- agnostic errors. Muscular artery cystic necrosis a newly named non-inflammatory muscular artery ar- teriopathy may be confused with SAM both clinically and pathologically. This arteriopathy represents the muscular artery equivalent of cystic media necrosis of the elastic arteries since it exhibits similar morphol- ogic features and can occur concomitantly with this entity. Adrenergic agents to counter hemorrhagic shock in SAM are contraindicated since they may intensify injury and create new lesions. The use of norepinehrine antagonists introduces a new, but as yet untested, treatment option for SAM.

Aplicación de un modelo para la interpretación de espectros de resonancia paramagnética electrónica de sistemas octaédricos de Cr(III)

Abstract: En este trabajo se presenta un modelo para la interpretación de espectros de resonancia paramagnética electrónica (RPE) de espín, S = 3/2 en ausencia de interacción hiperfina. El modelo involucra la diagonalización de la matriz del Hamiltoniano de espín, los campos resonantes y su variación angular con un código de color para asignar el valor de la probabilidad de transición la cual se calculó utilizando la regla de oro de Fermi. Además, se encontró que transiciones prohibidas (por las reglas de selección dipolar magnéticas) no son nulas bajo las condiciones de este cálculo. El método es aplicado a espectros de RPE de: [Cr(TTP)Cl(acetona)], [Cr(TTP)Cl(4- cianopiridina)] y a trans-RSSR-[Cr(ciclam)Cl2]NO3.

Abstract: We present the power spectrum of the fluctuations in the cosmic microwave background detected by the Very Small Array (VSA) in its first season of observations in its compact configuration. We find clear detections of first and second acoustic peaks at l~200 and l~550, plus detection of power on scales up to l=800. The VSA power spectrum is in very good agreement with the results of the Boomerang, Dasi and Maxima telescopes despite the differing potential systematic errors.
