ReCIBE , 2013,
Abstract: The research field of Computer-Supported Cooperative Work has been reflected fundamentally in theoretical contributions. This contributions have constitute the base to carry out several intents to facilitate the work of the collaborative systems developers, however, current tool-kits, APIs or class libraries only eliminate partially the gap between the technical aspects that impose the information technology and the stressed social character of the process of collaboration in the World Wide Web. In this paper is presented the framework freeTribe, which involve the domain of the distributed groupwares leaning on the Cooperative Model of the methodology AMENITIES, in the middleware platform ICE and in RIA technologies; freeTribe has been designed as a software framework, to maximize its reusability and adaptability with a minimal programming effort. Support for synchronous group tasks in the Web context is increasingly recognized as a desideratum for collaborative systems and several tools have emerged recently that help groups of people with the same goals to work together, but many issues for these collaborative systems remain under studied. We identified synchronous awareness as one of these issues in collaborative systems, and updated freeTribe with four well-accepted kinds of awareness (group awareness, workspace awareness, contextual awareness, and peripheral awareness) by the community focusing our interest in its synchronous mechanism for efficient interaction in Web contexts.

Scientia Et Technica , 2007,

Abstract: apanteles gelechiidivoris is a larvae parasitoid of tuta absoluta (lepidoptera: gelechiidae), an important pest for crops such as tomatoes and potatoes. the use of this insect as a controller has not been implemented efficiently due to the lack of knowledge of their biology, specifically their life cycle and the effect of external factors, such as the temperature in its parasitic capacity. the development and reproductive capacity of a. gelechiidivoris was evaluated in four thermal conditions: 14, 20, 26 and 32 °c. for the development assessment a cycle description was performed to determine the total cycle duration. thermal thresholds for each state were estimated using the lactin model and day degrees were found. to assess the reproductive capacity, different densities of the host were offered to a pair of recently emerged wasp of 5 until 160. the number of emerged adults was counted, and longevity and fertility of the emerged was evaluted. additionally, an adjustment of a functional response model was made. duration of the life cycle for temperatures was evaluated: from 39 days at 14 °c, 34 to 20 °c, 19 to 26 °c and 17 to 32 °c. the longevity was 7.5 (14 °c), 7 (20 °c), 5 (26 °c) and 2.4 (32 °c) days. the temperature at which you can optimize reproductive parameters of this wasp is between 20 and 26 °c.

Revista chilena de pediatría , 1998, DOI: 10.4067/S0370-41061998000200003
Abstract: objective:, to determine if intragastric mucosal ph [phij measurement offers useful information on hemodynamic conditions and contributes to delineate prognosis in children with shock. portents and methods', seven parents cged 4 to 14, mean 8.5 years with shock and requiring pulmonary artery catheter were included. all of them underwent phi determinations simultaneously with arterial ph (pha], oxygen delivery index [idc^i, oxygen consumption index |ivo2|, mixed venous saturation [svojl and arterial blood lactate concentration which were measured every 6 hours along a 24 hour period. results: a significant inverse correlation was found between ido2 and phi (r = -0.85) (p ~ oo1). there were not relationships between blood lactate, pha, or svo2 and phi. mean arterial blood lactate concentration was higher in non survivors (3.53 vs. 1.59 mmol/l; p = 0.051). conclusion: a significant relationship between phi and idc>2 was found, but -n the opposite direction of what was "physiologically" expected. phi did not correlate with mortality in this particular series of patients.

Revista Colombiana de Entomología , 2011,
Abstract: in 2003 the number of hectares with tomato crops in colombia, was over 16.000. with the increase of the cultivated area, the number of plagues such as the white fly of the greenhouses, trialeurodes vaporariorum, also increased. the most common methods for the control of the white fly are the use of insecticides, cultural practices like defoliation, yellow sticky traps and, the use of natural enemies like encarsia formosa. although the efficiency of this parasitoid has been demonstrated, the determination of the maximum distance in which the parasitism reaches effective levels, was needed. in order to reach this objective, e. formosa was released based on its functional response, and according to the distribution and density of the plague in each sampling point. in those areas were higher densities of white fly were found, more parasitoids were released. as a result the percentage of parasitism was higher compared with the rest of the area. a radio of action between 8 to 10 m was found for this parasitoid, with a maximum parasitism of 47.27%.

Abstract: objective. to compare the brody, gompertz, logistic and von bertalanffy nonlinear regression models in their ability to describe the growth in nellore cattle raised in confinement, receiving a feed supplement and subjected to experimental manipulation. materials and methods. the parameters for each model were estimated using the procedure for nonlinear models proc nlin of sas, based on weight data collected from 352 to 833 days of age. results. mean square error, coefficient of determination and durbin-watson statistic allowed to concluding that all functions had similar ability to adjust the weight-age data observed; however, the normality test for the residuals showed that the logistic model was the one that did not meet this assumption (p<0.05), limiting its predictive ability under current experimental conditions. conclusions. the normality condition in the residuals of brody, gompertz and von bertalanffy models (p>0.05) ensured that the inference about the parameters was adequate, regardless of weight changes resulting from the implementation of various feeding levels. for the biological interpretation of the parameters, the brody model was the one that best described the recorded growth in nellore males. the highest mature weight and the lowest mature index obtained indicate that animals reached asymptotic weight at older age because of their slower growth, as consequence of their manipulation during the experiment.

Revista médica de Chile , 2002, DOI: 10.4067/S0034-98872002000700008
Abstract: background: close to one half of patients with hemolytic uremic syndrome (hus) will require a dialytic therapy, mainly peritoneal dialysis (pd). in some cases, pd may have relative or absolute contraindications, usually when hus is associated to severe intra-abdominal complications. aim: to report the results of continuous hemofiltration use, in children with abdominal complications of hus. material and methods: retrospective review of the files of 40 patients that were admitted to our pediatric unit with hus, since 1995. six children had relevant intra-abdominal complications and were treated with continuous hemofiltration (chf). four additional children, with similar hus related complications and treated with chf before 1995, were included in the analysis. results: the age of the patients ranged from 5 to 66 months old. an arterio-venous chf was performed in four and veno-venous chf in six children. the duration of chf was 93.2 hours in average. adequate control of volemia was achieved in every patient; diafiltration with peritoneal dialysis solution was added in five patients, to improve azotemia. four patients had complications related to the vascular access or the anticoagulation procedure. the procedure was terminated due to improvement of diuresis in five cases, transfer to pd in four and a cardiorespiratory arrest in one. only one patient developed a chronic renal failure during the follow up. conclusions: chf is an effective and safe alternative of acute renal replacement therapy in the management of renal failure in pediatric cases with hus, aggravated with abdominal complications (rev méd chile 2002; 130: 768-72).

Objectivez: to asses usefulness of high frequency oscillatory ventilation in children with "adult type" acute respiratory distress syndrome. Patients and methods: eleven infants and children aged 3 days to 8 years (mean 22.1 month) with diffuse lung injury and oxygenation index over 20 [42 ± 1 2.2), were non randomly ventilated with high frequency oscilatory ventilation and a high pulmonary volume. Results: a significant decrease in oxygenation index to 22 ± 9.6 was recorded in the first four hours under high frequency ventilation and this reduction was sustained. Eight out of 1 1 patients survived, all of them were able to be returned to conventional mechanical ventilation and were eventually extubated. Three patienis died, no deaths were due to respiratory failure. Predicted mortality among these patients was 70%, however 72.7% survival was recorded. There were no side effects attributable to nigh frequency oscilatory ventilation. Conclusion: in pediatric patients with severe adult type respiratory distress syndrome of different causes, high frequency oscilatory ventilation may be a safe and effective tool.
