The aim of this paper is to focus on the new perspectives which are offered by the advent of genomics (nutrigene-tic) and their potential on individual nutrition recommendations. Moreover, this article examines the influence of polymorphism on the response to dietary patterns which is the key player in the nutrigenetic field. It is clear that genetic variation influences nutritional requirements, therefore it will influence personalized nutrition recommendation. This paper also focuses on consumer population perspectives concerning nutrigenetics and examines the academic training of future health professionals.

Abstract: objectives: circannual variation in morbi-mortality for ischemic heart disease is well-known but there are few data focusing on chronic heart failure (chf). this report analyzes seasonal variations in chf hospitalizations and mortality in vigo, northwest of spain. methods: data on hospital discharge reports with a diagnosis of chf (3-digit icd9 code 428) were obtained from the clinical documentation service at hospital meixoeiro (419 beds, population: 167.000 inhabitants 14 years old). data were divided in three 4-months periods: winter (november-february, years: 1997-98, 98-99 and 99-00), spring (mars-june, years: 97, 98 and 99) and summer (july-october, years: 97, 98 and 99). hospitalization rates and mortality were also studied at cardiology, internal medicine and geriatrics (attending to 81% of patients with chf). results: a total of 1.472 chf hospitalizations were registered (52% male, 83% 65 years, mean inhospital stay: 13.8 days). significatives winter increases were noted in global hospitalizations -4.9% (winter) vs. 3.2 ? (summer)and overall medical services admissions -9.3% (winter) vs. 6.2? (summer). these increases also were observed at specific medical services (cardiology: +4.9%, internal medicine: +6.5%, geriatrics: +3.2%). there was not seasonal differences in letality or attributable mortality for chf. death in patients with a diagnosis of chf was 4 times more likely. (or:3.81; 95% ci: 3.28-4.42). conclusions: there are a striking increase in winter hospitalizations for chf. this diagnosis is associated with an excess of inhospital mortality. preventive and therapeutic measures taking in account this observation are warranted to reduce the burden of this growing problem.

Abstract: we report a case of lymphoepithelial cyst of the thyroid gland in a 31 year-old-man with chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis and history of multinodular goiter. the lesion was resected and the histopathologic examination showed that the cystic mass was lined by squamous and focally columnar epithelium, an it was surrounded by follicular lymphoid tissue. to our knowledge only twenty cases of this lesion have been reported in the medical literature. an association with chronic thyroiditis has been noted in 10 cases.

Food and Nutrition Sciences (FNS) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/fns.2013.45076
Abstract:

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the physicochemical properties, presence of water and aflatoxin M1, as well as the effect of the time of year (dry or rainy season) to value the quality and safety of conventional and organic raw milk samples. Samples were collected of conventional (n = 12) and organic (n = 11) raw milk from Tizayuca, Hidalgo and from Tuxpan, Veracruz, respectively. Infrared spectrophotometry and other analytical techniques were employed, approved by the International Dairy Federation for the analysis of the physicochemical properties, the cryoscopy technique for the detection of water addition, and high performance liquid chromatography for the determination of aflatoxin M1. Results showed that there are no significant differences in the components of conventional milk in the season of the year, whereas in organic milk a significant difference (P < 0.05) was observed in acidity during the seasons of the year (rainy and dry), as well as a decrease in the percentage of lactose in the dry season, with a significant difference (P < 0.05). The means of the cryoscopic point of the milk samples complied with the limits established in the Mexican Official Norm (0.530,

An update in the structure, function, and regulation of V-ATPases: the role of the C subunit

Abstract: vacuolar atpases (v-atpases) are present in specialized proton secretory cells in which they pump protons across the membranes of various intracellular organelles and across the plasma membrane. the proton transport mechanism is electrogenic and establishes an acidic ph and a positive transmembrane potential in these intracellular and extracellular compartments. v-atpases have been found to be practically identical in terms of the composition of their subunits in all eukaryotic cells. they have two distinct structures: a peripheral catalytic sector (v1) and a hydrophobic membrane sector (v0) responsible for driving protons. v-atpase activity is regulated by three different mechanisms, which control pump density, association/dissociation of the v1 and v0 domains, and secretory activity. the c subunit is a 40-kda protein located in the v1 domain of v-atpase. the protein is encoded by the atp6v1c gene and is located at position 22 of the long arm of chromosome 8 (8q22.3). the c subunit has very important functions in terms of controlling the regulation of the reversible dissociation of v-atpases.

Abstract: Cuba represented a real possibility for Galitian exiles from the Civil War, largely because of previous favored relations mantained by the social networks set up by emigrants. Exiles from all walks of life arrived, either on a temporary or permanent basis, creating a further link in the historical relations enjoyed by both countries.

Abstract: in this paper we offer a normative evaluation about the universal basic income proposal (ubi) face to the most important justifications of "guarantee job" and "right to work" proposals. firstly, we present the main arguments that justify a ubi. secondly, we examine some of the most relevant reasons to believe that a ubi can be a desirable redistributive plan face to the current job guarantee policies. thirdly, we analyse the idea that an unconditional and universal income redistribution policy violates the reciprocity principle. in this sense, we argue that a redistributive policy like ubi is a better way to achieve the objectives put forward by "guarantee job" promoters, especially by those advocates with the present workfare policies. thus, the objective of this paper is to show some relevant and useful normative arguments in order to think about the existing and potential redistributive resources schemes

In this paper we offer a normative evaluation about the Universal Basic Income proposal (UBI) face to the most important justifications of "guarantee job" and "right to work" proposals. Abstract: Myiasis is the term used to describe infestations, both obligatory and accidental, in vertebrate animals and humans by dipteral larvae. The oral cavity is rarely affected by this infestation and the circumstances which can lead to oral myiasis include persistent mouth opening together with poor hygiene, or facial traumatism. We present a case of oral myiasis by larvae of Lucilia sericata, a species present in the Iberian Peninsula, in a hospitalized patient with surgical problems.
