Empty Soul Syndrome  [PDF]
José Humberto Cardoso Resende
Journal of Behavioral and Brain Science (JBBS) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/jbbs.2018.81002
Abstract: It is a syndrome with a set of signs and symptoms distinct from depression or panic syndrome, which is not characterized by the fear of dying, but by the desire to die in the form of suicide or in another quick way. Unlike depression or panic, it occurs more frequently between 60 and 80 years of age, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) report, which puts Brazil in eighth place among the countries with the highest incidence of suicides in the age range of 70 years. The report estimates a death every 40 seconds in the world, with India ranking first among the countries surveyed, according to the United Nations agency, in the WHO 2012 registries. It can occur in any person, regardless of color, religion, social class or schooling, being more common, however, among men, in the ratio of nine men to two women. It is very common among health practitioners or the self-employed. Causes are related to the general delusion involving body and mind, focusing on the lack of care. By the description of the dictionary, soul is the union of body and spirit, which some prefer to call mind. “Empty Soul” represents the lack of the very essence of life, a total void of wills, a finding of abandonment. For these symptoms or illness, the treatment has followed the line of “antidepressants” aimed at the reuptake of serotonin, such as SSRIs, MAOIs, anxiolytics (benzodiazepines) and painless techniques that reach the brain, used in neurology and psychiatry. We suggest, as a therapeutic idea, the realization of “Healing Workshops”, with the support being given in the form of meetings with motivational orientations, through positive stimuli, daily and constant psychotherapies, which the client will attend until cure is verified. This degree of disorder has presented in alarming proportions, especially after 2015. This work is justified by to the dramaticity of the deaths, such as: knife, shot, fall of great height, hunger strikes and forced isolation in prisons or kidnappings. In addition, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) has estimated, for the year 2025, in Brazil, a population of 32 million elderly people. This manuscript reports signs and symptoms presented by patients who thought it was not worthwhile to continue living.
The determinants of advertising intensity in the Brazilian manufacturing industry: an econometric study
Resende, Marcelo;
Nova Economia , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-63512006000300002
Abstract: the paper econometrically investigates the determinants of advertising intensity in the manufacturing industry of s?o paulo, brazil in 1996 taking as reference an extensive survey carried out by funda??o seade. the preliminary investigation indicated a substantial degree of endogeneity in structure and performance variables. the instrumental variables estimation also considered instruments referring to information technology and organizational practices and indicated relevant roles for industrial concentration, barriers to entry, profitability and prevalence of durable goods in explaining advertising intensity. the results lend some support to an informative role of advertising in the brazilian case.
A escrita de um corpo sem órg?os
Resende, Catarina;
Fractal : Revista de Psicologia , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1984-02922008000100010
Abstract: beginning from the reading of the foucault studies on the self care and of deleuze and guattari on the body without organs, we had for purpose to trace the possible approximations between the self writing and the body without organs diary. this exercise of self writing is an exercise of constitution of bodies that, besides turning back over oneself, provides a self care in order to care for the others. we conceived the body without organs diary as an ethopoietic movement towards an ethical and esthetic dimension, but also political of life.
Profit persistence in Brazil: a panel data study
Resende, Marcelo;
Estudos Econ?micos (S?o Paulo) , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-41612006000100005
Abstract: the paper investigates the persistence of profits for industrial firms in brazil during the periods 1986-98 and 1994-1/1999-3. a simple theoretical framework justifies an autoregressive formulation for excess profits. a strong form of persistence can then be related to the presence of a unit root. recently developed panel data unit tests enable the consideration of short time periods. the results thus obtained for two different measures of excess profitability mostly favour the presence of a unit root. therefore, despite an apparently more competitive environment in the brazilian economy one can still observe extremely persistent profits.
O que pode um corpo? O método Angel Vianna de conscientiza??o do movimento como um instrumento terapêutico
Resende, Catarina;
Physis: Revista de Saúde Coletiva , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-73312008000300011
Abstract: in contrast with the traditional dance teaching, in which dance held together standardized body and movement, the angel vianna method of awareness of movement began its development for the teaching of classical ballet - and afterwards of body expression - that considered body and movement in its singularity. this original and authentic method of dealing with the body turned the awareness of movement also useful from a therapeutic viewpoint, applied to several areas in the health field. however, despite the fact that over the years the awareness of movement showed consistency and efficacy, its therapeutic application still occurs only through experience, lacking formalization of the theoretical-conceptual foundations that could give support to it as a therapeutic method in the health area. so our main objective in this paper was to propose a possible formalization of the theoretical-conceptual foundations that guide the awareness of movement in the health field. the research starts with our own experience, and uses the philosophical-conceptual method that allows us to demolish crystallized beliefs and propose a broader conception of the process health-illness. we believe that a therapeutic like the angel vianna method of awareness of movement can, through the body, help integrate the psycho-soma, amplifying the individual's health in its normative and creative capacity. although this method is a body practice that makes itself powerful in several aspects from its own experience, we found that its formalization, without falling in reductionisms or crystallizations, could bring an even greater vitality to its therapeutic application.
O jornalismo e suas narrativas: as brechas do discurso e as possibilidades do encontro
Fernando Resende
Digressions: journalism and its methodological challenges (Des)caminhos: o jornalismo e seus desafios metodológicos

Galáxia , 2008,
Abstract: LAGO, C.; BENETTI, M. (Org.) (2007). Metodologia de pesquisa em jornalismo. Petrópolis: Vozes. 286 p. Digressions: journalism and its methodological challenges — This review of the book Metodologia de pesquisa em Jornalismo (Methodology of Research into Journalism), organized by Lago e Benetti, ponders the issue of methodology in the field of Journalism based on the premise from which its organizers work, i.e., that every research work, implying as it does the construction of theories and the search for methodologies suited to our purposes, requires an epistemological attitude. We start from the principle that there is a paradox, which is revealed by the antinomy between the terms real and discourse, in objects that are constituted of the symbolic but that must, at the same time, follow the laws of reality as reference. From this perspective, we seek to reflect on the way Journalism is seen, pondering about some of the theoretical, epistemological and methodological aspects brought up by the articles collected for the book. This review introduces the reader to the researches presented and their respective approaches, while simultaneously leading him to reflect upon the methodological paths the book reveals. LAGO, C.; BENETTI, M. (Org.) (2007).

Journalism Discourse and the narrative of resistance
Fernando Resende
Brazilian Journalism Research , 2005,
Abstract: This paper aims at re ecting upon journalistic narratives. The text is intended to carry out the task of reinventing the past, for the purpose of enlarging the notion one has concerning the narrative possibilities in the journalistic eld. The relation between the process of cultural modernization and the history of formation of the journalistic discourse in Brazil somehow makes explicit the predominance of a journalistic way of narrating that has been regulated almost exclusively at a technical level. In this particular matter, learning about the journalistic discourse in its historical perspective and attempting to analyze the so-called “narratives of resistance” complement the purpose, since that aims at the identi cation and acknowledgement of the co-existence and intertwinement of narrative diversity in the contemporary journalistic discourse.
