This research aimed to investigate the conception that teenagers have about their own sexual behavior, as well as verify which evaluation they make about their first sensual contacts and what they think of the experiences reported by friends. In order to reach the results, we contacted male and female students from 7th grade students in elementary school to 2nd grade of high school in a public school in t

Abstract: studies that investigate the acceptance of learning disabilities student point out that they present negative sociometric status, indicating an inappropriate social skills repertorie. this work has evaluated the improvement of social skills in social status of these students. the participants were divided in to one intervention group gi (6 learning disabilities students) and two without intervention group gc1 e gc2 (6 and 12 students with or no learning disabilities, respectively). the students were evaluated before and after the intervention with sociometric indication protocol. the social skills training was included 10 sessions of one hour and a half. the comparison between the evaluations showed improvement in social status of five gi participants and two of gc1. the results obtained show the importance of social skills in the production of a positive sociometric status.

Abstract: population aging is a worldwide phenomenon which is particularly acute in brazil. regular physical exercise by the aged may improve physical capacity, provide gains in self-esteem and confidence, and contribute to reducing the number of falls, which are common among the elderly. this study aimed at comparing fall risk between sedentary and active elderly subjects, by assessing how the regular practice of physical exercises is reflected by subjects' performance at the berg balance scale. seventy elderly subjects were divided into 2 groups, sedentary (n=35) and active (n=35), and submitted to the berg test. the sedentary group mean score at the berg scale was 47.7±5.6, and the active groups', 53.6±3.7 (p<0.0001). the odds ratio analysis showed that fall risk was 15.6 times higher for the sedentary group as compared to the active group (p=0.002). since the performance of the sedentary group at the berg scale was worse than the active group's, it may be said that regular practice of physical activities affects such performance, and that physically active subjects present less fall risk than sedentary ones.
Thin film of ZnAl2O4:Eu3+ synthesized by a non-alkoxide precursor sol-gel method
Martins, Renata F.;Serra, Osvaldo A.;
Journal of the Brazilian Chemical Society , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-50532010000700028
Abstract: europium-doped zinc aluminate (znal2o4:eu3+) films were prepared by the dip-coating technique using a non-alkoxide precursor sol-gel method in ethanolic medium. photoluminescence spectra displayed the main excitation bands at 270 and 393 nm. the emission spectra of the film heated at 500 oc displayed bands at 578, 590, 612, 650 and 698 nm, assigned to the 5d0 → 7fj (j = 0, 1, 2, 3, 4) transitions. the films are transparent above 320 nm.

Abstract: screening for the bacteriocin production of strains of lactic acid bacteria from various meat and meat products resulted in the detection of a bacteriocin-producing lactococcus lactis ssp. hordniae ctc 484, isolated from chicken. the bacteriocin inhibited not only closely related lactic acid bacterium (lactobacillus helveticus), but also pathogenic microorganisms (staphylococcus aureus, listeria monocytogenes, bacillus cereus, clostridium perfringens, and enterococcus faecalis). this compound was inactivated by a-chymotrypsin, trypsin, pronase e, ficin, pepsin, papain, and also by lipase. it was heat stable even at autoclaving temperature (121°c/10 min) and was produced under refrigerated storage. it was also active over a wide range of ph values (2-10), although the highest activity was observed in the lower ph range. the effectiveness of strain ctc 484 as well as that of its bacteriocin in reducing population levels and growth of listeria monocytogenes in sterile beef were studied. the results indicated that the inoculation of this bacteria into the meat contributed to the safety improvement and the shelf life extension of this food.

Abstract: studies in social skills area have established relations between social and academic performance, although the data regarding the nature and the functionality of this relationship remain somewhat controversial. the present study aimed to evaluate the empirical relationship between these two aspects through two pathways: a) promoting social skills and evaluating their effects on academic results; b) promoting academic results and evaluating their effects on social skills. an experimental group design was adopted (one control and two experimental groups) with students' academic and social skills evaluated before and after the intervention. sixteen 7 to 13 years-old students, with reading and writing learning disabilities participated. the social skills training program consisted of pedagogical play activities organized from a lower to a higher level of complexity goals. the academic intervention consisted of teaching 51 words of two and three simple syllables. the students' academic results were assessed by the evaluation of reading, naming and dictation skills. the social skills results were assessed by self-evaluation and peer and teacher evaluation. the results showed that the academic intervention group produced reading and writing skills improvement. on the other hand, the social-skills intervention group improved both social and academic skills. the results reinforce the idea of a functional relationship between social and academic abilities.
