Abstract: in this paper, we address the issue of territorial interdependencies in the case of portugal. given the lack of previous scientific work on inter-regional exchanges, the topic is approached from a broad perspective, by referring to the development synergies that can be found between the various regions. in particular, we discuss the specific relations that arise both from proximity and from regional similarities. using data at the nuts iii level, we argue that, beyond the consolidation of a specific mode of development in the lisbon metropolitan region, a sustainable articulation between demography and economy can hardly be found anywhere in the country. we conclude that the complex nature of inter-regional relations in portugal calls for further methodological work.

Abstract: the article presents results from a research on the school experience of youngsters/pupils of a public secondary school in s?o paulo. the aim was mainly of investigating the relations established by these youngsters with the knowledges offered by the school institution, and their interpretations of the work carried out to appropriate such knowledges. the students are analyzed as youngsters, from the standpoint that they bring into school their knowledges and experiences; and as pupils, due to the fact that they are at school to widen their cultural repertoire as a result of a specific work. the methodology employed is that of the local approach which, according to van zanten, presupposes the inter-crossing of data coming from methods adequate to the ethnographic approach. the instruments of the research are knowledge inventories and interviews, apart from other devices used in the action-research in which this study is immersed: a questionnaire on the school climate, discussions with groups of youngsters, observations in the classroom. the study concludes that the youngsters/pupils start secondary education with a positive image of the school, but, in spite of that, the experience at school does not allow their understanding of specific aspects of the appropriation of knowledges. problems were also identified regarding the rules of sociability constructed at school, and that the ways in which pupils experience such challenges are not homogeneous: for some, the expenditure of energy occurs because they want to be recognized by their colleagues; for others, the biggest challenge is to overcome the difficulties in their studies. at any rate, these youngsters seek to attribute meaning to this stage of their schooling. the questions raised here point to the importance of the educative work that must be achieved in secondary education.

Abstract: two biopsychosocial metatheories are identified and characterized: the hierarchical or interactionist, has been the background conceptual framework for health psychology in the last two decades, and the integrative or dialectical, that is proposed as the inspiration to this discipline. a theoretical and methodological contrast between these two metatheories is presented with reference to several items: cross-disciplinary work and team work, mind-body relationship, person's conceptual-affective autonomy, therapist-client relationship, compliance with preventive/cura-tive regimens and health and disease didactics, in order to understand their implications to health psychology.

Abstract: Este artigo resulta de uma retrospec o em minha experiência como formadora de professores com um grupo composto em sua maioria por professores de língua estrangeira que cursaram uma disciplina de Inicia o à Pesquisa em 2001. Recordando-me dos objetivos da disciplina e da metodologia adotada, dos resultados dos alunos e das possíveis causas para esses resultados, meu propósito é estender minhas reflex es a outros envolvidos com a prepara o de professores para realizar pesquisa. This article results from retrospection into my experience as a teacher educator with a group mostly formed by foreign language teachers attending a discipline of Initiation in Research in 2001. By recalling the aims and the methodology adopted in the subject, the outcomes of students and the causes possibly related to these results, my purpose is to extend my reflections to others involved with the preparation of teachers to do research.

Abstract: La creación de la Biblioteca de Catalunya el a o 1907, fue obra de la Diputación de Barcelona presidida por Enric Prat de la Riba, que respondía así a la demanda general plasmada en el movimientoThe creation of the National Library of Catalonia in 1907 was due to the Diputació de Barcelona, presided over by Enric Prat de la Riba. It was a response to the call made by the noucentista movement for a library for advanced studies that would cater for the intellectual needs of university students, scholars and specialists in Catalan science and culture. Both the creation of the library and its subsequent development took place in a political and social context in which the Catalan language and culture played a major role. In this process of national construction, the recovery and promotion of the historical, documentary and bibliographic heritage were key elements. From the beginning, the aim of the National Library was to involve citizens in the creation of a repository for Catalan culture from all periods which, at the same time, would promote advanced study in all scientific areas. The National Library became a symbol of the recovery of Catalan culture and language; it was born with the support of the Catalan institutions, and it developed and consolidated itself to a large extent thanks to the enthusiastic participation of civil society.

Abstract: La creació de la Biblioteca de Catalunya, l'any 1907, va ser obra de la Diputació de Barcelona presidida per Enric Prat de la Riba, per fer efectiva la demanda general plasmada en el moviment noucentista d'una biblioteca d'alts estudis que servís les necessitats intel·lectuals d'universitaris, erudits i estudiosos de la ciència i la cultura catalanes. Tant la formació de la Biblioteca com tot el desenvolupament posterior van tenir lloc dins un context polític i social en què els valors de la llengua i la cultura catalanes van prendre una gran rellevància. El sentiment de construcció d'un país passava per la recuperació i valorització del patrimoni històric, documental i bibliogràfic, i per aquest motiu l'objectiu de la Biblioteca va ser des del principi, en gran part, involucrar la ciutadania en la creació d'un gran receptacle de la cultura catalana de tots els temps que servís alhora per als estudis més avan ats en tots els camps de la ciència. La represa cultural, aparellada amb la recuperació i normalització lingüístiques, es va veure simbolitzada en la formació de la Biblioteca Nacional, que va néixer de les institucions pròpiament catalanes i que es va desenvolupar i mantenir en gran part gràcies a la participació entusiasta de la societat civil.The creation of the National Library of Catalonia in 1907 was due to the Diputació de Barcelona, presided over by Enric Prat de la Riba.
