Distribution of pteropods (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Thecosomata) in surface waters (0-100 m) of the Western Caribbean Sea (winter, 2007)

Revista de biología marina y oceanografía , 2009, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-19572009000300011
Abstract: the main goal of this survey was to study the vertical and horizontal distribution of the thecosome pteropods in the upper 100 m of the western caribbean sea. zooplankton was collected at 60 stations in january 2007 at stratified depth intervals of 25 m from the surface to 100 m. the community was analyzed for diversity, evenness, species richness, and similarity. we recorded 36 taxa 12 of which are new records for the western caribbean. the most abundant taxa were limacina inflata, l. trochiformis, creseis acicula f. clava, cuvierina columnella atlantica, and hyalocylis striata. in general, these taxa showed a similar pattern, their highest abundances occurred consistently in 0-25 m layer in both night and day samples; abundance decreased with depth. significant day/night differences were found in the composition and abundance of pteropods, differences among depth intervals were non-significant. our results showed that the upper 25 m harbored the highest species richness, diversity, and vertical abundance of pteropods, thus providing unprecedented detail with respect to previous surveys. the local community structure of the pteropods is determined largely by vertical day/night migrations. pteropods tended to be most abundant in the southern and northern sectors of the area, but highest diversity and species richness were recorded in the central sector. overall, the low variability of the hydrographic conditions and the mixed horizontal distribution of the clusters from the similarity analysis suggest that day/night migratory patterns of the most abundant taxa are determinant of the observed variability of the pteropod community.
Summer composition and distribution of the jellyfish (Cnidaria: Medusozoa) in the shelf area off the central Mexican Pacific Composición y distribución de las medusas (Cnidaria: Medusozoa) en la plataforma continental central del Pacifico mexicano

Abstract: The composition, distribution, and abundance of the jellyfish community of a shelf area of the Mexican tropical Pacific were surveyed during August 1988. Zooplankton samples were collected along transects on the outer and inner sectors of the continental shelf to determine the structure of the jellyfish community and its variation in this area during the rainy season. A total of 23 species were recorded, with Aglaura hemistoma, Solmundella bitentaculata, Liriope tetraphylla, Pelagia noctiluca, and Rhopalonema velatum being the most abundant. The total abundance of medusae and of the most abundant species was statistically independent of depth and distance to the coast. Hence, the total jellyfish abundance of the most abundant species, and Shannon's Diversity index had a uniform distribution in both the inner and the outer shelf; furthermore, neritic-oceanic forms and oceanic species occurred indistinctly over the entire continental shelf. On the outer shelf A. hemistoma and S. bitentaculata were most abundant; the former species, together with L. tetraphylla, weakly characterized the inner shelf jellyfish community. The narrowness of the shelf, the wide distribution of the most abundant forms, and the possible effect of local advective processes from the oceanic zone masked a definite gradient across the shelf. Three species have not been recorded previously in the Mexican Pacific: Amphinema dinema (Péron and Lesueur, 1810), Sarsia coccometra Bigelow, 1909, and Clytia mccradyi (Brooks, 1888). The finding of A. dinema is the first in the Eastern Pacific.

Abstract: in this paper, a study of software engineering standards and models to determine similarities between them has been carried out, from the viewpoint of risk management process in the field of software outsourcing. to select and review these standards and models, msss model was used, which was developed from a thorough analysis of different mapping standards and models, leading a series of steps or guidelines to help formalize and organize the study. besides determining similarities, this research makes a comparison of each standard and model, prior selection and classification of them, according to the area it focuses.

Teen Pregnancy in Durango Mexico: A Cultural Perspective  [PDF]
Rebeca Trevi?o-Montemayor
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2018.910136
Abstract: The present research attempts to draw an in-depth understanding of adolescents’ conceptualizations of romantic and gender relationships, which attempted to understand how stereotyped behavior impacts on young girls’ pregnancy decisions. It is a qualitative study that considers own adolescents’ view of marriage and motherhood as an important part of their future life. Qualitative methodology and ethnographic and hermeneutic tools were used to enlighten hidden elements from which statistics and quantitative studies do not show concerning teenage pregnancy, a very important problem in the North West Region of Mexico, particularly in Durango. A comprehensive analysis listening to adolescents themselves can help to reduce adolescent’s fertility and pregnancy rates. Sexual education is officially included in Mexican basic schools; however, it has focused in biological and hygiene issues; the study highlighted the important needs girls and boys have to know about sexual and romantic interaction as a very basic part of sexual education. It was not only about instructing in the use of contraceptive methods but in a real and effective education understanding the cultural context where early pregnancy happens.
História e historiografia nas cartas de Capistrano de Abreu
Gontijo, Rebeca;
História (S?o Paulo) , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-90742005000200007
Abstract: this article analyses the correspondance of capistrano de abreu (1853-1927), considered by many as the most important brazilian historian of the early of the twentieth century. the objective is to recover some aspects about the historiographical exercise, considering the characteristics of the historian’s work in his age, so as to understand a double and simultaneous construction: from the historiography and from the historian.

Abstract: the article explores the relationship between the trajectory of capistrano de abreu in search of a place for itself in a specific social space, and the path in search of brazil and the brazilians. the goal is to understand the question proposed by capistrano about the formation of brazil as a nation, considering the link between historiography and ethnography at the turn of the 19th century.
