Abstract: natural fiber reinforced plastics (nfrp) have awakened considerable interest in the area of polymer composites, because of the need to develop new, environmentally friendly materials. one of the most complex ways of manufacturing this type of material is in the form of ultrathin laminar layers; however, this process hinders mechanical testing, mainly three and four-point bending. the present investigation faces this challenge and shows the influence of parameters, such as the grammage of reinforcing fabric and lamination process, on strength, stiffness and fracture characteristics for three-point bending in this type of structural element. the industrially manufactured laminas were composed of orthophthalic polyester resin reinforced with licuri fibers. macromechanical and micromechanical analyses were conducted in the study of fracture characteristics for all the parameters. the mechanical behavior in the three-point bending of the laminar composite showed that the use of licuri fiber to obtain natural fiber-based plastic is completely viable.

Abstract: background: isokinetic dynamometry is becoming increasingly important for the assessment of muscle function in individuals with intermittent claudication. however, there is still little information available about the cardiovascular responses of these patients during this type of assessment. objective: to assess and compare the cardiovascular responses recorded during the assessment of muscle strength and endurance for two exercises commonly used in patients with ic (plantar flexion/dorsiflexion and knee flexion/extension). methods: the sample consisted of 17 claudicant patients with stable disease for at least 6 months. during the isokinetic dynamometer testing, non-invasive measurements of heart rate, blood pressure and double product at rest and at peak exertion were obtained according to specific protocols established for muscle strength and endurance assessment. results: except for diastolic blood pressure, heart rate, systolic blood pressure and double product values rose during the exercise compared to the resting stage (p < 0.05). elevations in heart rate and double product values were higher during knee extension/flexion than during plantar flexion/dorsiflexion (p < 0.05). increases in heart rate were also higher during the endurance assessment protocol than during muscle strength assessment. conclusion: isokinetic strength and endurance testing in patients with ic results in elevation of heart rate, systolic blood pressure and double product values during the exercises. these increases are higher during the muscle endurance exercises and in those involving greater muscle mass, suggesting that strength testing of small muscle groups causes less cardiovascular overload in these patients.

Abstract: Objectives: To evaluate the spiritual well-being of nurses; to appraise their opinions as to the importance of offering patients spiritual assistance, and to verify whether nurses received any specific type of preparation during their professional training for giving spiritual assistance to patients. Methods: This is an exploratory and descriptive study, carried out with a sample of 30 nurses who worked at the Stepdown Unit and Oncology Unit of Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, using the application of the Spiritual Well-Being Scale (SWS) and a questionnaire prepared by the authors. Results: On the Spiritual Well-Being Scale, 76.6% of nurses produced positive scores. On the Existential Well-Being subscale, 80% had positive scores, and on the Religious Well-Being subscale, 76.6% had positive scores. On the SWBS, the general average score was 107.26, and for the Existential and Religious ones, the average scores were 54.4 and 53.2, respectively. Most nurses responded affirmatively as to the importance of offering patients spiritual assistance, and 40% of nurses offered as rationale “to provide well-being and comfort to the patient”. Most nurses reported not having received professional training for giving spiritual assistance to patients in any of the nursing courses they had done. Conclusions: The results indicate the need for professional training and/or continued education courses in nursing to extend the reflection and discussion on spirituality and spiritual assistance to patients.
Para uma fenomenologia da identidade pessoal

Análise Psicológica , 2006,
Abstract: this work attempts to introduce the subject of description methods and eidetic analysis as well as to set the foundations for the hermeneutic approach to the dasein as "being-in-the-world", because it proposes to articulate the transcendental ego and the dasein?s analytic with the dimension of possibility and passivity inherent to them. the philosophical approach implies therefore the psychological analysis where subjectivity, identity and incarnation are appreciated, and in opposing each other, take part in a common challenge.

Revista Brasileira de Ciência do Solo , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-06832006000500013
Abstract: lime mobility and soil acidity correction can be influenced by liming management and the quantity and quality of soil organic matter. acidity neutralization in function of the lime incoporation and surface liming was evaluated in a red latosol (oxisol) under different antecedent vegetation covers (eucalyptus, forest, pasture and pine). the study was carried out from november 2002 to january 2003 at the soil science department of the lavras federal university. after 30 days of incubation of soils with lime, the contents of ca2+ e al3+, ph and base saturation levels were quantified at the 0-5, 5-10, 10-20 and 20-40 cm sample depths. at the depth of 0-5 cm, surface liming promoted an increase in ph, base saturation and ca2+ to levels above those considered optimal for cotton growth, thus characterizing overliming. compared to the area without liming, the levels of ph, ca2+ and base saturation were higher in layers beneath those of lime incorporation, mainly in the samples with highest organic matter content. no such effects were verified in the subsoil layer (20- 40 cm).

Abstract:

The aim of this study was to evaluate methods for breaking dormancy of seeds Neonotonia wightii (perennial soybean), Macrotiloma axilare (archer), Pueraria phaseoloides (tropical kudzu), Calopogonium mucunoides (calopo), which were subjected to the following treatments for physical breaks and physiological dormancy: 1) control; 2) scarification with sandpaper; 3) immersion in H2SO4 98% for five minutes and subsequent washing in water; 4) preheating at 60°C for 150 minutes in an air circulating oven; 5) 0.2% KNO3; and 6) gibberellic acid (GA3 0.5%). The results showed that using H2SO4 to break seed dormancy archer and perennial soybean and calopo scarification with sandpaper were the most recommended treatments. Tropical Kudzu presented physiological response to treatments with the use of gibberellic acid and physical treatment using immersion H

Abstract: The analysis of wave effects above salinity is important in order to define mixing processes and their potential to change density gradients, since action in the region of the Patos Lagoon plume is highly dynamic. This paper aims to evaluate the influence of waves on the mixing pattern of the adjacent continental shelf. Constantly marked by tides and circulation variations, changing from flood to ebb tide, salinity stands as a major parameter for analysis. The study is based on hydrodynamic numerical modeling experiments using the TELEMAC3D model and waves generated by the wind using the TOMAWAC coupled model. The comparison between the situations considering the waves generated by the wind and without waves was made through time series analysis, stratification series, transversal cross sections, longitudinal cross sections, salinity mean fields and diagrams by Richardson and Brünt-V?is?l?s frequency parameters. With the cross sections analysis, the mixing effect generated by the waves was observed, demonstrating clearly that the waves were capable of raising the superficial salinity in regions far from the Patos Lagoon entrance, while at the entrance, the wave effects enhanced the mixing on the deepest layers, decreasing the saline intrusion and expanding the plume more radially on the surface. The space-temporal diagrams were effective to demonstrate the modulation effect of the waves over the salt mixing of saline waters, revealing that wave effects decrease the stratification as well as the Brünt-V?is?l?s frequency and increase the period of buoyancy, due to the mixing increase.
