Abstract: it was studied the effects of sucrose and inorganic nitrogen on multiplication of (nh4no3 and kno3) "in vitro" culture of poncirus trifoliata (l.) raf. apex buddings from successive multiplications in ms medium added with bap l.0 mg/l and ana l.0 mg/l were placed into new ms media where different tested combinations of sucrose (0; 7.5; 15; 30; 45 and 60 g/l) and inorganic nitrogen levels (0 ms; 1/4 ms; 1/2 ms; 1 ms and 2 ms) present in ms medium were tested. the buddings were maintained under the 2,500 lux for 16 daily hours at 27 ± 2°c. after 45 days they were evaluated according characteristics of total number of buds and number of buds higher than 1 cm long. the sucrose and inorganic nitrogen doses affected the rated characteristics. the best responses observed were between 30 to 45 g/l of sucrose associated with double (2 ms) dose of inorganic nitrogen.

Abstract: the research aimed at evaluating the physical alterations of the yellow passion fruit (passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa degener), produced in different seasons in the south of minas gerais state, brazil. the experimental design used was a completely randomized one, with three treatments (seasons): gs1 (may to july/1995), low temperature and rainfall; gs2 (october to december/1995), moderate temperature and rainfall, and gs3 (january to march/1996), high temperature and rainfall, ten replications and five fruits per plot. the fruits produced in gs2 were significantly better for mass, length, diameter and number of seeds, but gs1 provided the smallest rind thickness and highest juice content
Development of globular embryos from the hybridization between 'Pêra Rio' sweet orange and 'Ponc ' mandarin

Abstract: This research was undertaken to study the influence of different concentrations of the MT medium, sucrose, vitamins, activated charcoal and gibberellic acid (GA3) on the culture of immature embryos from the crossing between 'Pêra Rio' sweet orange and 'PONC ' mandarin. The embryos were excised under aseptic conditions and inoculated in 15 mL of the MT medium according to the following experiments: 1) MT concentrations (0%, 50%, 100%, 150% and 200%) supplemented with 0, 30, 60 and 90 g.L-1 of sucrose; 2) vitamins concentrations of the MT (0%, 50%, 100%, 150% and 200%) supplemented with 0, 30, 60 and 90 g.L-1 of sucrose; 3) activated charcoal concentrations (0, 0.5, 1, 1.5 and 2 g.L-1) supplemented with GA3 (0, 0.01, 0.1; 1 and 10 mg.L-1). After the inoculation, the embryos were kept in a growth room for 90 days at 27 ± 1oC, in a 16-hour photoperiod with 32 μmol.m-2.s-1 of irradiance. The best development of embryos at the globular stage was achieved using 50% and 100% of the MT medium plus 60 g.L-1 and 90 g.L-1 of sucrose, respectively, supplemented with 0.01 mg.L-1 of GA3. The addition of activated charcoal or vitamins in the MT medium has shown to be unnecessary to the development of globular embryos.
Fenologia e escalonamento da produ??o do abacaxizeiro 'Smooth Cayenne' no cerrado de Mato Grosso

Abstract: the objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of planting dates and of floral induction age on phenology, harvest period, and production scheduling of 'smooth cayenne' pineapple, in the cerrado of the state of mato grosso, brazil. the experiment was carried out at tangará do serra, mt, from november 2005 to september 2008. six planting dates - january, march, may, july, september, november -, and five ages of floral induction - 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 months after planting -, in addition to natural flowering, were tested. the analyzed variables were: periods from floral induction to flowering, flowering to harvest, induction to harvest, and from planting to harvest; mass of fruit with crown and crown mass; and d leaf length. there was no interaction between planting dates and floral induction periods. floral induction held in may and july, period with low temperatures and precipitation, promoted the elongation of plant cycle and lowered fruit mass and d leaf length. the induction held in september and november led to the harvest in seasons with favorable prices, regardless of the planting month, with no interference in fruit mass.

Abstract: data about the viability and germination of pollen grains are essential for the success of on-field controlled hybridizing. the purpose of this work was to study the stigmas receptivity period of citrus flowers under different stages and adjust the protocol to the in vitro pollen grain germination. six essays were carried out with the aim to define the stages for collection and pollinizations, and to establish the ph and ideal sucrose, agar, calcium and boron concentrations, and temperature, for germination. for the pêra, natal and valência sweet orange varieties, manual pollinization can be performed using flowers at the "balloon" stage. for the pollen grains germination of the natal, pêra and valência varieties, the medium should be made of 100g·l-1 sucrose, 800mg·l-1 calcium, 200mg·l-1 boric acid and ph= 6.5, exception made of the pêra variety, whose germination was better at ph 5.0. a temperature of 25oc provided the best percentage of germinated pollen grains for all varieties.

Abstract: the study was carried out in order to evaluate the effect of temperature and in vitor stigma receptivity on regeneration of orange cultivar (valência, pêra and natal) pollen. two experiments were carried out, in the first the ideal temperature of germination was assessed. pollen was obtained from flowers at the balloon stage and inoculated in culture medium with 10 g l-1 agar, 200 mg l-1 boric acid, 100 g l-1 sucrose, 800 mg l-1 calcium nitrate, ph adjusted to 6,5 and incubated in a bod chamber at temperatures of 23, 24, 25, 26 and 27oc during a 24-hour photoperiod. after 12 hours of incubation, the best temperature for pollen grain germination was 25oc for all varieties. in a second experiment, in order to test the receptivity of the stigma, flowers were collected at different flowering stages: small bud, balloon and open flower. the stigmas were by immersion exposed to hydrogen peroxide (perioxidase reaction), 3% for 3 minutes. through the technique of zeisler (1938), better results were detected at the balloon stage with 80 to 100% receptivity, while for the open flower the receptivity presented maximum indexes.

Abstract: an experiment was conducted in order to verify the effect of different concentrations of paclobutrazol, ethephon and potassium nitrate in the production of mango cv. tommy atkins at agricultural area of mossoró-assu. the experiment was carried out in 1999, under an experimental design of randomized blocks, with an factorial arrangement of 3x2x3 (dose of paclobutrazol: 0 mg.l-1; 1000 mg.l-1 and 1500 mg.l-1); 2 (potassium nitrate concentrations: 3 and 4%); 3 (dose of ethephon: 0,0 ml.l-1; 0,50 ml.l- and 1,0 ml.l-) with four replicates. the dosage of 1500 mg.l-1 of paclobutrazol caused the largest reduction of plants growth. this product showed good growth inhibition characteristics. the kno3 and ethephon, separately, did not influence none of the evaluated characteristics.

Abstract: in modern fruit culture, the search for cropping methods for reduction of production time is important. in this sense, the use of grafting techniques is fundamental. in the experimental field of the center of agricultural sciences of the federal university of alagoas-ufal, under the nursery conditions, an experiment with soursop tree (annona muricata l.) was conducted. the objective was to evaluate the effects of three grafting methods on the percentage of soursop tree. the grafting methods utilized were by the green strip budding, whip grafting and the top cleft grafting associated with two soursop tree cultivars (gigante das alagoas and crioula) and two containers for seedlings (polyethylene bags and tubes), by employing rootstocks aged 95 days after emergence. it was found that the ‘gigante das alagoas’ showed a better performance than ‘crioula’ concerning graft establishment at 60 and 90 days after grafting. the best grafting method depended upon the container type utilized. when the polyethylene bags were employed the green strip budding grafting method showed a better performance than grafting methods in the evaluations performed at 60 and 90 days after grafting, presenting the average percentage of graft establishment of 100 and 95%, respectively. nevertheless, by utilizing tube containers, all the three grafting methods tested presented average percentage of graft establishment higher than 75% but, they did not differ statistically. these results showed it is possible to reduce the size of the container, without missing the efficiency and quality of soursop trees.

Abstract: aiming to evaluate the effects of different ratios of calcium, potassium and sodium cations on the mineral nutrition of a?ai seedlings (euterpe oleracea mart.), a greenhouse experiment was carried out in the soil science department at the federal university of lavras-ufla. the randomized block design, with nine treatments and four replications, was used. the treatments were nine ratios of calcium, potassium and sodium (4:2:1, 3:3:1, 2:4:1, 1:5:1, 5:1:1, 4:1:2, 6:0:1; 0:6:1, e 4:2:0) in the nutrient solution. the experimental unit was a plastic pot with three liters of solution, containing two plants. the total dry matter and nutrient accumulation were evaluated. the relationship calcium:potassium:sodium influenced all the appraised characteristics, and the solutions containing calcium, potassium and sodium in the ratios 4:2:1 and 3:3:1 resulted in seedlings development with larger production of dry matter and larger accumulation of nutrients.
Sacarose e pH na germina??o in vitro de gr?os de pólen de citros

Abstract: this work was carried out in order to evaluate the effect of sucrose and ph on in vitro pollen germination of cultivars valencia, natal and pera (citrus sinensis osbeck). pollens were distributed in petri dishes containing culture medium with 10 gl-1 of agar 800 mgl-1 calcium nitrate, 200 mgl-1 boric acid, added of sucrose (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 gl-1) in order to verify the satisfactory ph, the pollen were inoculated in culture middle containing 10 agar gl-1 and 800 mgl-1 calcium nitrate, 200 mgl-1 acid bórico,100 sucrose gl-1 and ph values of 3,5; 4,0; 4,5; 5,0; 5,5; 6,0; 6,5. after inoculation, pollen were incubated at 25oc for 12 hours b.o.d. the largest germination percentage was obtained with an aid of optical microscope with lens of 10 x. for all the studied varieties, the largest germination percentage was obtained with 100gl-1 of sucrose and the largest number pollen germinated was verified at ph 6,5, being observed that for larger ph the values of the amount of pollens burst also increased for the cultivars natal and pera and they decreased for valencia.
