Revista chilena de derecho privado , 2010, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-80722010000200001
Abstract: the principle of full reparation is an essential part in the modern civil liability. its content requires the measure of compensation commensurate with the extent of damage caused, leaving out any other consideration. however, in some cases, this principle recognizes limits or exceptions of various origins and various foundations. on the contrary, none of them is a revocation. on the contrary, all are fully compatible with their recognition.

A regional frequency analysis of daily annual maximum rainfall series for an area with poor information is presented. The complex topography mountains and the highlands region in the Cordillera de Los Andes, Bolivia, produce different patterns of daily rainfall. The combination of L-Moments and cluster analysis are adequate to identify the homogeneous regions of the annual maximum series. The work defines 4 homogeneous regions. Region 1 includes the stations located in the highlands and south-east. Region 2 covers the central highlands and La Paz River Basin, consisting of inter-Andean basins. Region 3 clearly defines the Amazonian basin stations and 4 is composed of stations located in the northern mountains. Different distributions were tested for regional frequency analysis using the Index Flood method, the best results were obtained with the Double Gumbel and Gumbel functions. Finally, regional equations are compared with some specified series of each region, in order to verify the applicability of the proposed methodology for hydrological design purposes.
Increased Susceptibility to Pneumococcal Disease in Sjögren Syndrome Patients  [PDF]

World Journal of Vaccines (WJV) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/wjv.2014.42007
Abstract:
Susceptibility to pneumococcal infections in Sj?gren syndrome (SS)―an autoimmune inflammatory disease―patients is not well known, although these patients frequently develop respiratory diseases. The relative risk of developing pneumococcal disease in SS patients versus diabetes mellitus type 2 (DM-2) patients, matched by age, gender, and length of enrolment was studied. From January 1998 to September 2013 the records of Donostia University Hospital were analyzed, which among other patient’s data includes: number and type of hospital admissions and number and type of laboratory determinations. Streptococcus pneumoniae isolates of the same serotype causing recurrent infections were characterized by PFGE. The study comprised 127 patients in the SS group (69 primary and 58 secondary) and 127 in the DM-2 group as control. In 12 SS patients, (9.4%) 22 pneumococcal disease episodes were detected. Two patients (1.6%) with a single episode each one were observed among DM-2 patients, p = 0.01, RR for SS patients 6 (95% CI 1.4 to 26.3). No differences could be demonstrated between the two groups of patients in infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus agalactiae. Most pneumococcal serotypes in SS patients belonged to the 13-valent (50%) and 23-valent (75%) anti-pneumococcal vaccine. SS patients are associated with and increased risk of suffering from pneumococcal disease. Vaccination should be considered in this group of patients.

Scientia Et Technica , 2011,
Effectiveness of Glycyrrhizinic Acid (Glizigen) and an Immunostimulant (Viusid) to Treat Anogenital Warts
José Domínguez Gómez,Ramón Daniel Simón,Alfredo Abreu Daniel,Hana Zelenkova
ISRN Dermatology , 2012, DOI: 10.5402/2012/863692
Abstract: Genital warts are benign proliferations of skin and mucosa caused by the human papillomavirus infection (hereinafter referred to as HPV). It is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases in the world, whose incidence rate has increased in the last three decades. Current treatment involves the physical destruction of the infected cells. The fact that there are many different types of treatment goes to show that none of them are uniformly effective or directly antiviral. Objective. Demonstrate the efficacy of Glizigen in the III-phase clinical trial combined with a food supplement (VIUSID) formulated to boost the immune system when treating external anogenital warts. Design. 100 patients clinically diagnosed with anogenital lesions were included in the trial and assigned to two groups of 50 individuals. Those from one group where treated with Glizigen and Viusid and those from the other group with 25% podophyllin in alcohol, the results from each were then compared. Results. The combined Glizigen-Viusid treatment was seen to have an 87.5% efficacy rate, which was slightly more than that of the treatment with podophyllin, and there were hardly any adverse reactions reported during the treatment. Conclusions. the combined Glizigen-Viusid treatment was effective in treating genital warts. 1. Introduction Genital warts are benign proliferations of skin and mucosa caused by the human papillomavirus infection. These viruses do not have any acute signs or symptoms, just the slow growth of lesions that can be subclinical for long periods of time [1]. They are a group of DNA viruses that belong to the Papovaviridae family, they are nonenveloped, and they cause all kinds of warts and a great deal of tropism on different parts of the body [2]. Up to 150 different types have been identified and around 40 of these infect the anogenital tract in men and women [3]. They are classified as being either high or low oncogenic risk types, the latter includes types 6 and 11, which are responsible of the appearance of condylomata in more than 90% of the cases [4]. Genital warts is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases in the world, its incidence rate has increased in the last three decades; 600 million individuals are thought to be infected and 190 million with clinical infection. There are not any official statistics on the prevalence of the HPV infection in Latin America [5]. In Cuba, 83,521 cases were reported in the period 1990–2003 [6]. It is transmitted through sexual intercourse, trauma with contaminated material, contact with surfaces that are
Genetic Programming and Standardization in Water Temperature Modelling
Maritza Arganis,Rafael Val,Jordi Prats,Katya Rodríguez,Ramón Domínguez,Josep Dolz
Advances in Civil Engineering , 2009, DOI: 10.1155/2009/353960
Abstract: An application of Genetic Programming (an evolutionary computational tool) without and with standardization data is presented with the aim of modeling the behavior of the water temperature in a river in terms of meteorological variables that are easily measured, to explore their explanatory power and to emphasize the utility of the standardization of variables in order to reduce the effect of those with large variance. Recorded data corresponding to the water temperature behavior at the Ebro River, Spain, are used as analysis case, showing a performance improvement on the developed model when data are standardized. This improvement is reflected in a reduction of the mean square error. Finally, the models obtained in this document were applied to estimate the water temperature in 2004, in order to provide evidence about their applicability to forecasting purposes.
Reducing the Energy Demand of Multi-Dwelling Units in a Mediterranean Climate Using Solar Protection Elements
ángel L. León,Samuel Domínguez,Miguel A. Campano,Cristina Ramírez-Balas
Energies , 2012, DOI: 10.3390/en5093398
Abstract: It is known that glazed openings are very important elements in the energetic behavior of buildings, especially in Mediterranean climates where there are many hours of solar radiation. The objective of this study was to determine the influence of solar protection on the energy demand of public housing structures in these climates. To this end, the reduction in energy demand achieved by fixed solar protectors in combination with mobile protectors (blinds) was quantified, including an evaluation of the influence of their geometry, dimensions, degree of openness, and the orientation of the opening. To analyze and quantify energetic demand, a block of public housing units in a neighborhood of Seville (latitude 37°23' N) was used as a model. This block is typical of public housing in the Mediterranean region. Simulated energetic models were created using DesignBuilder, achieving reductions in the annual energy demand from 10% to 27% according to the orientation chosen. The results and conclusions of the study are applicable to new construction, energetic rehabilitation projects, and/or the improvement of existing buildings.
