Abstract: Con la revisión por expertos una revista intenta garantizar que los artículos publicados tienen calidad. Este artículo pretende analizar el difícil trabajo de evaluación en el ámbito de la enfermería espa ola. Presentamos algunas sugerencias sobre cómo desempe ar esta función, a la vista de datos recogidos de revistas espa olas, y así contribuir a la mejora de las publicaciones en enfermería. Se presenta asimismo una encuesta realizada por contacto personal con revistas relevantes con unas recomendaciones puntuales para los profesionales de enfermería. Angordans, Jordi Piqué;Puig, Ramón Camao;Noguera, Carmen Piqué;
Revista Latino-Americana de Enfermagem , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-11692009000300017
Abstract: this research focuses on the analysis of how nursing journals publish their papers. basically, two models are analyzed, vancouver, by the international committee of medical journal editors, and apa by the american psychological association. their advantages and disadvantages are discussed. in view of how research papers are currently published and how research is judged, the authors propose that nursing journals adopt their own model, irrespective of how medical professionals publish.

Abstract: The gran Catharro (1580) is considered the first influenza epidemic. The analysis of various testimonies of the time may offer some doubts about whether or not it was so; and data strongly support that it was a pertussis epidemic.
Dyslipidaemia in HIV-infected women on antiretroviral therapy. Analysis of 922 patients from the Spanish VACH cohort

Abstract: Observational, multicentre, cross-sectional study from the Spanish VACH Cohort. 922 women on stable ART without lipid-lowering treatment were included.Median age was 42 years, median CD4 lymphocyte count was 544 cells/mm3, and 85.6% presented undetectable HIV-1 viral load. Median total cholesterol (TC) was 189 mg/dL (interquartile range, IQR, 165-221), HDL cholesterol 53 mg/dL (IQR, 44-64), LDL cholesterol 108 mg/dL (IQR, 86-134), and triglycerides 116 mg/dL (IQR, 85-163). Mean accumulated time on ART was 116 months; 47.4% were on NNRTI-based regimes, 44.7% on PI, and 6.7% on only-NRTI therapy. 43.8% were also hepatitis C (HCV) coinfected. Patients on PI treatment presented higher TC/HDL ratio than those on NNRTI (p < 0.001). Significantly higher HDL values were observed in NNRTI-treated patients. HCV-coinfected patients presented lower TC/HDL ratio than the non HCV-coinfected. In multivariate analysis, factors independently associated with TC/HDL ratio were age, triglyceride levels and HCV co-infection. PI treatment presented a non-significant association with higher TC/HDL ratio.In HIV-infected women, the NNRTI-based ART is associated with a better lipid profile than the PI-based. Factors unrelated to ART selection may also exert an independent, significant influence on lipids; in particular, age, and triglyceride levels are associated with an increased TC/HDL ratio while HCV co-infection is associated with a reduced TC/HDL ratio.The increase in cardiovascular risk (CVR) observed in HIV-infected patients is a cause for concern. Most clinical studies have detected a relationship between cardiovascular disease and traditional risk factors, among which age, male gender, smoking, hypertension and diabetes are the most important. There is far less information concerning CVR in HIV-infected female patients. For years, some inequalities in female participation in clinical studies have been observed. In HIV infection, women have been under-represented as participants as t
Hypersensitivity to Aspirin as a Factor for Poor Control in Hereditary Angioedema  [PDF]

Abstract: Background: Hereditary angioedema (HAE) is a primary immunodeficiency disorder characterized by C1 complement inhibitor deficiency and unregulated activation of complement. Aspirin hypersensitivity is related to an increase in the amount of leukotrienes with eosinophil and mast cell activation and increased levels of glandular kallikrein with upregulated local conversion of bradykinin. Both conditions can be present in the same patient. Objectives: We present five patients with HAE; they were all being treated in similar ways according to the therapeuthic options available in our institute (danazol). However, three of them had recurrent episodes of angioedema; in these cases, it was identified aspirin hypersensitivity as a cause of poor disease control. A review of the literature is included. Case Presentation: We present the cases of four females and one male (age range 21 - 58 years) with type I HAE. Subjects were all ISSSTE beneficiaries (state workers) treated at the National Medical Center “20 de Noviembre”. Aspirin hypersensitivity was identified in three patients. Elimination of NSAIDs along with dietary elimination of high salicylate-containing foods improved control of angioedema crisis (severe and/ or recurrent episodes). Discussion: Aspirin hypersensitivity was identified as a factor for poor control in our patients with HAE. Such cases improved with dietary elimination of high salicylate-containing foods and avoidance of NSAIDs. Conclusions: This is the first report of patients with HAE and aspirin hypersensitivity as a cause of poor control. We recommend a deliberate search of these comorbidities, especially in cases of poor disease control. Further studies are needed to continue the investigation on this topic.
