Reclamation of Lithium Cobalt Oxide from Waste Lithium Ion Batteries to Be Used as Recycled Active Cathode Materials  [PDF]

Abstract: Waste laptop batteries (Type-Lithium ion) have been collected and manually dismantled in the current work. Active electrode materials were scraped off from the copper current collector and polyethylene separators. The aluminum current collectors were found to be severely damaged and attached with the electrode material. It was treated with NaOH later to be recovered as Al2O3. The leaching of LiCoO2 was done by 3 M HCl aided by 5% H2O2 at 60°C from the scraped active electrode materials (LiCoO2 and graphite) leaving the graphite completely. Co was precipitated as hydroxide by the addition of NaOH and later converted to Co3O4. The remaining solution was treated with saturated Na2CO3 to acquire Li2CO3 as crystalline precipitate with high purity. The recovery of Co and Li was 99% and 30%, respectively. Co3O4 and Li2CO3were mixed in stoichiometric proportions and calcined around 950°C with air supply to achieve LiCoO2 successfully.

Abstract:

Palm fiber (PF) reinforced acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) composite matrix was prepared by employing Injection Moulding Machine (IMM). Palm fiber was collected from ten different trees of different age group from Comilla region in Bangladesh. Three sets of samples were prepared for three different wt% (5%, 10% and 20%) of fiber contents. The mechanical (tensile strength, flexural stress, micro hardness, Leeb’s rebound hardness) and physical (bulk density and water absorption) properties were measured. The observed result reveals that the tensile strength (TS) and flexural stress (FS) were decreased with increasing fiber contents in the PF-ABS composites except 10% fiber content.

Abstract: Sn-Zn based solder is a possible replacement of Pb solder because of its better mechanical properties. The alloys need to be studied and explored to get a usable solder alloy having better properties. In this work eutectic Sn-9Zn and three Tin-Zinc-Bismuth ternary alloys were prepared and investigated their microhardness and mechanical properties. Microhardness, tensile strength and elastic modulus increase with Bi addition while ductility decreases with Bi addition.

Abstract:

With the aid of Injection Moulding Machine (IMM) Palm fiber reinforced Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) composites (PF-ABS) were prepared. Three sets of samples were prepared for three different wt% (5%, 10% and 20%) of fiber contents. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) experiments were performed to study the surface morphology, microstructure (if it crystalline or noncrystalline) and new bond formation after preparation of the composites. SEM pattern shows that after addition of palm fiber in PF-ABS composites the brittleness increased due to creation of voids in the composites except 10% fiber content in PF-ABS. From XRD pattern it is clear that the palm fiber, ABS and PF-ABS composites are amorphous in nature. Moreover FTIR spectrum shows that there is no new bond formed after addition of palm fiber in ABS polymeric matrix to create PF-ABS composites.

Extraction and characterization of alumina nanopowders from aluminum dross by acid dissolution process

Abstract: A significant amount of aluminum dross is available as a waste in foundry industries in Bangladesh. In this study, alumina was extracted from aluminum dross collected from two foundry industries situated in Dhamrai and Manikgang, near the capital city, Dhaka. Aluminum dross samples were found to approximately contain 75wt% Al2O3 and 12wt% SiO2. An acid dissolution process was used to recover the alumina value from the dross. The effects of various parameters, e.g., temperature, acid concentration, and leaching time, on the extraction of alumina were studied to optimize the dissolution process. First, Al(OH)3 was produced in the form of a gel. Calcination of the Al(OH)3 gel at 1000°C, 1200°C, and 1400°C for 2 h produced γ-Al2O3, (α+γ)-Al2O3, and α-alumina powder, respectively. Thermal characterization of the Al(OH)3 gel was performed by thermogravimetric/differential thermal analysis (TG/DTA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The phases and crystallite size of the alumina were determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. The dimensions of the alumina were found to be on the nano level. The chemical compositions of the aluminum dross and alumina were determined by X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopy. The microstructure and morphology of the alumina were studied with scanning electron microscopy. The purity of the alumina extracted in this study was found to be 99.0%. Thus, it is expected that the obtained alumina powders can be potentially utilized as biomaterials.

Abstract:
Integrated Reporting (IR) stands for organizational reporting which is prepared for public disclosure and includes both financial and important non-financial information. Existing financial reporting standards are inadequate to address issues like the importance of intangible assets, corporate impacts on the environment, human health, societal conditions and corporate influence on the political process. Thus, the concept of IR emerged to deal with these issues that affect corporate success. The traditional reporting model focuses on a relatively narrow account of historical financial performance of the value-creation process. Keeping this in mind, the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) has developed an International Integrated Reporting Framework, the core objective of which is to guide organizations in communicating the broad set of information needed by investors and other stakeholders to assess the organization’s long-term prospects in a clear, concise, connected and comparable format. The IIRC shares the view that the evolution of corporate reporting should be led by the communication of value creation by the corporate entities. This paper focuses on the degree of disclosure of Integrated Reporting requirements by the top eleven multinational companies of Bangladesh as per market capitalization. Using annual report content analysis, the findings show that the companies have lately started providing non-financial information regarding environment, society and governance along with financial figures. But it is prominent that they are still providing these information in disconnected strands and as a part of Corporate Governance or CSR disclosures instead of linking these to financial information and providing it as an integrated report.

Geometric Linearization of Ordinary Differential Equations

Abstract: The linearizability of differential equations was first considered by Lie for scalar second order semi-linear ordinary differential equations. Since then there has been considerable work done on the algebraic classification of linearizable equations and even on systems of equations. However, little has been done in the way of providing explicit criteria to determine their linearizability. Using the connection between isometries and symmetries of the system of geodesic equations criteria were established for second order quadratically and cubically semi-linear equations and for systems of equations. The connection was proved for maximally symmetric spaces and a conjecture was put forward for other cases. Here the criteria are briefly reviewed and the conjecture is proved.
Botrytis cinerea Growth on Kiwifruit of Different Harvest Maturity

Abstract: The hyphal growth of Botrytis cinerea, was approximately the same on kiwifruit stored at 0, 5 or 10 C. Maximum growth rate was recorded at 20 C, this growth rate declined slightly at 25 C. On malt agar (MA) the growth rate at 0 C was the same as in kiwifruit stored at the same temperature. This growth rate was proportional with the increase in temperature from 5 to 20 C, but it declined slightly at 25 C. The hyphal growth rate was faster on MA than on kiwifruit. This faster growth rate on MA may be due to readily availability of substrate. While in fruit, the physical barriers and/ or possible invoking of defense mechanism may have reduced the growth rate of fungus.

Abstract: The present study was undertaken to highlight the gender disparities of Pakistan as well as at regional and international level. The study, measured the comparative outcome of formal and non-formal system of education in Pakistan. To achieve the desired goal, documentary analysis was considered appropriate. The number of schools and enrollment during the years 2001 to 2004 of the formal system for primary, middle and high level was considered and enrollment during the year 198-1999 and 2004 for Secondary School Certificate to Ph.D level of non-formal system was considered. Data was analyzed in term of percentage and average. It was found that enrollment of female is less than male in formal system while enrollment of female is higher than male in non-formal system of education in Pakistan.
