ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF BARK EXTRACT OF ACACIA CONCINNA (L)

Abstract: Antimicrobial properties of Bark extract of Acacia concinna (L) were investigated against laboratory isolates of bacteria using well diffusion method. Chloroform extract (13 mm zone diameter of inhibition) demonstrated the highest activity followed by methanol extract (12 mm zone diameter of inhibition.Phytoconstituents present included phenol, tannin, fat and fixed oil, flavanoids, saponin and quinone. The results of antibacterial activity revealed that all the extract showed good inhibitory activity against all the tested pathogens and the chloroform extract showed comparative by better activity than the other extracts against P.aerogenosa and s. aureus. The activities of the extract were compared with standard antibiotics. These results indicate that A. concinna Bark possesses potential broad spectrum antibacterial activity.
SCREENING OF SECONDARY METABOLITES AND ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF ACACIA CONCINNA LEAVES

Abstract: The preliminary phytochemical study and in vitro antibacterial activity of the leaf extracts of Acacia concinna having ethno medicinal uses were investigated. The preliminary phytochemical analysis of the extracts revealed the presence of phenol, tannin, fat and fixed oil, flavanoids, saponin and quinone. The extracts were subjected for screening of in vitro antibacterial activity against various pathogens at the concentrations of 500 and 250 μg/ml by well diffusion assay method. The results of antibacterial activity revealed that all the extract showed good inhibitory activity against all the tested pathogens and the chloroform extract showed comparative by better activity than the other extracts against S.pyogens and s. aureus. The activities of the extract were compared with standard antibiotics. These results indicate that A. concinna leaves possesses potential broad spectrum antibacterial activity.

Abstract: The ability of the activated carbon prepared from Eichornia Crassipes to remove Reactive Magenta B and Reactive Turquoise Blue dyes from aqueous solution has been carried out as a function of contact time,dose (0.1-0.60 mg/50ml for Magenta B and 0.25-2.0 mg/50ml for Turquoise Blue), pH (2-10) and concentration (25, 50, 75, 100mg.L-1). An amount of 0.6 g of the adsorbent could remove 56.0% of the dyefrom 100mg.L-1 Magenta B dye solution and 2.0 g could remove 45.87% of Turquoise Blue dye from 100 mg.L-1 Turquoise Blue dye solution. The amount of dye adsorbed per unit weight of the adsorbent increased from 15.64 to 56.01mg.g-1 with increasing concentration from 25 to 100 mg.L-1. The kinetics of adsorption was discussed in view of the kinetic models, the pseudo-first-order Lagergren model, Langmuir,Freundlich, Tempkin, Harkin’s-Jura, Elovich and the pseudo- econd-order model.
Compounds Identification Using HPLC and FTIR In Eclipta alba And Emilia sonchifolia

Abstract: Engineering modern techniques are used in various fields like drug and medicine. Many plants synthesize substances that are useful to the maintenance of health in humans and other animals. The use ofplants as medicines predates written human history. Medicinal plants are in all way having its own immense importance in current era. All plants produce chemical compounds as part of their normal metabolic activities. These metabolic activities can be measured using HPLC, FTIR etc., The present study reports the phytochemicals present in methanolic extract of Eclipta alba and Emilia sonchifolia, the dentification of these compounds using HPLC and FTIR. The results revealed the presence of a well number of phytochemicals in them responsible for antimicrobial, antioxidant and curing activities against several diseases.

Abstract: Medicinal plants are of great importance to the health of individuals and communities in general. Plants contain some chemical substances that produce definite physiological actions in and on the human body. The main aim of the present study was to evaluate the pharmacognostical properties and screen the bioactive constituents of Asystasia gangetica. Phytochemical screening of different extracts of the plant flower was carried out. The ethanol extract showed presence of maximum bioactive compounds including phenols, flavonoids, alkaloids, glycosides, tannins, terpenoids and saponins compared to other extracts. The yield and colour of the extracts varied with solvents and fluorescence analysis of powder was treated with various chemicals according to standard procedure. The results suggested that the plant flower possesses phytochemical constituents which are helpful to develop natural drugs to treat various diseases.

Abstract: The addition of inorganic spherical nanoparticles to polymers allows the modification of the polymers physical properties as well as the implementation of new features in the polymer matrix. The studyrepresents synthesis and characterization of nano TiO2with PEG using sol-gel method by hydrolysis of titanium tetra chloride with ethanol and water mixture as titania source. The resulting powder was characterized by XRD, SEM-EDAX, TEM, UV-Visible and FT-IR studies. The properties of all polymer nano composites were compared with TiO2. In FT-IR, all the peaks observed were around 460-560 cm-1which shows the presence of metal oxide bonds.
Kinetics and equilibrium studies of Adsorption of DIRECT RED-28 onto Punica granatum carbon

Abstract: An experimental study has been conducted on the adsorption of Direct red-28 dye using activated carbon prepared from Punica granatum (Pomegranate rind) by chemical activation with sulphuric acid. BET surface area of the activated carbon was determined as 1075.6 m2.g-1 and SEM observations showed the amorphous nature of the carbon. Adsorption kinetics, equilibrium and thermodynamics were investigated as a function of initial dye concentration, temperature and pH. First order Lagergren, pseudo-second order and Elovich kinetic models were used to test the adsorption kinetics. Results were analyzed by the Langmuir, Freundlich, Tempkin and fractional power isotherm models. Based on regression coefficient, the equilibrium data was found to fitwell to the Langmuir equilibrium model than other models. Response surface method using the Box-Behnken design of experiments gives a mathematical model for the adsorption of the dyestuff.
SYNTHESIS OF NANO TiO2-SiO2 COMPOSITE USING SOL-GEL METHOD: EFFECT ON SIZE, SURFACE MORPHOLOGY AND THERMAL STABILITY

Abstract: The study presents the synthesis of Nano TiO2/SiO2 composites (NTSC) using sol-gel method by hydrolysis of Titanium tetra isopropoxide with ethanol and water mixture as Titania source and Silicic acidas Silica source, a solid that can advantageously replace bulk titania samples as catalyst support. Comparison of their physical properties with the results presented in literature for bulk samples evidenced that these TiO2/SiO2 solids are promising in term of thermal stability. NTSC particle was characterized by XRD, SEM-EDS, FTIR and TG-DTA studies. From the FTIR results, peaks were observed at 3400 cm-1and 1650 cm-1 in both samples due to stretching and bending vibrations of -OH groups. The particle size of NTSC was found to be 7-10nm. Thermal stability of both samples was analyzed by TG-DTA. TiO2-SiO2 particle was stable upto 1100oC. Addition of SiO2 to TiO2, altered the size, shape, and thermal stability.
