Abstract: Microbial infections are one of the leading diseases which are responsible for millions of deaths every year because of lack of effective antimicrobial therapy and this situation becomes more complicated because of microbial resistance towards conventional antibiotics. Quinoline derivatives have proved their medicinal importance by having broad spectrum of pharmacological activities like antimicrobial, anticancer, antiviral and anti-inflammatory activities etc. This review article deals with the antimicrobial potential of novel quinoline derivatives as an effort to provide better treatment for microbial infections.

Abstract: Chalcones are 1, 3-diphenyl-2-propene-1-one, consist of two aromatic rings linked by a three carbon α, β-unsaturated carbonyl system. The chemistry of chalcones has generated intensive scientific studies throughout the world. Especially interest has been focused on the synthesis and biodynamic activities of chalcones. These are considered to be precursors of flavonoids and isoflavonoids. The aim of this review is to summarize chalcones and their diverse pharmacological activities like anticancer, antimicrobial, analgesic and antiviral activities etc.
Low blood glutathione levels in acute myocardial infarction.

Abstract: BACKGROUND: Although experimental studies have demonstrated that reduced glutathione (GSH) is involved in cellular protection from deleterious effects of oxygen free radicals in ischaemia and reperfusion, there are controversial data on the correlation between levels of GSH and the ischaemic process. AIM: The present study was planned to evaluate erythrocyte GSH levels in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). SETTING & DESIGN: Erythrocyte GSH levels were determined in 22 patients with AMI and 15 age matched healthy volunteers served as control. MATERIAL & METHODS: Erythrocyte GSH levels were measured by using Bentler in AMI and control patients. Also lipid profile was analyzed enzymatically in these subject. STATISTICS: The values were expressed as means +/- standard deviation (SD) and data from patients and controls was compared using student′s ′t′-test. Results and CONCLUSION: GSH levels were significantly decreased in AMI as compared to control (p<0.001). Also, total cholesterol and triglycerides were higher is AMI subjects (p<0.05). These finding suggest that depressed GSH levels may be associated with enhanced protective mechanism to oxidative stress in AMI.
Activity of Extracellular Superoxide Dismutase in Gestational Diabetes

Abstract: Recent studies indicate that Extracellular Superoxide (EC-SOD) may not be as scarce in some tissues as was initially believed. The EC-SOD is the major isoenzyme of SOD in the umbilical cord and is a major source of SOD activity in the uterus. The possible role of EC-SOD in gestational diabetes has not been reported. Hence, the present study was planned to study EC-SOD in healthy non-pregnant, healthy normotensive pregnant women and women with gestational diabetes. The present study was carried out in twenty healthy Non-Pregnant (NPW) controls (in age group 18-35 years), twenty healthy age-matched normotensive pregnant women (28-36 weeks gestation) and twenty (age-and parity-matched) women with gestational diabetes. Serum Extracellular Superoxide Dismutase Activity (EC-SOD) and superoxide generation was analyzed in these women. The EC-SOD levels were significantly decreased in G-DM as compared to HPW, NPW controls (p<0.001) and superoxide generation was raised in G-DM as compared to HPW (p<0.001). A significant negative correlation was observed between EC-SOD levels and superoxide generation (r = -0.175, p<0.05) in G-DM. These findings indicate that radical scavenging antioxidants are consumed by enhanced levels of free radicals produced during glucose induced oxidative stress.
Association Between Rheology and Lipoproteins in Menopausal Womens

Abstract: Lipid profile, haematocrit, fibrinogen, and blood viscosity were studied in 26 healthy volunteers (15premenopausal, 11 post menopausal). Menopausal women had significantly higher total cholesterol,fibrinogen, hematocrit and blood viscosity levels as compared to premenopausal women. Also, triglyceride,LDL-cholesterol and HDL-cholesterol levels were higher in menopausal women, but the difference wasstatistically insignificant. Since these parameters are considered to be risk factor for the development ofcoronary artery disease (CAD), menopausal women are at an increased risk of developing CAD.

Abstract: Partial single and double differential cross sections with their sums through direct and dissociative ionization of PF3 have been evaluated at fixed electron energies 100 and 200 eV, by using modified Jain-Khare semi-empirical approach. To the best of my knowledge no other data of differential cross sections are available for the comparison. I have also calculated integral ionization cross sections with their ionization rate coefficients by using M-B distribution. No other data of partial ionization cross section are available till now. The sum/or total of evaluated partial cross sections reveal good agreement with available theoretical data.
Serum biochemical markers in carcinoma breast.

Abstract: BACKGROUND: Despite the extensive research for many years throughout the world, the etiopathogenesis of cancer still remains obscure. For the early detection of carcinoma of various origins, a number of biochemical markers have been studied to evaluate the malignancy. AIM: To analyse serum gamma glutamyl transpeptidase (GGTP), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) in carcinoma breast patients. SETTINGS & DESIGN: The serum biochemical markers were estimated in twenty five histopathologically confirmed patients with carcinoma breast and equal number of healthy age- matched individuals served as control. MATERIAL & METHODS: Serum gamma glutamyl transpeptidase (GGTP), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were estimated and their sensitivity determined. Statistics: Data was analysed with student′s ′t′-test and sensitivity score of these markers was determined. RESULTS & CONCLUSIONS: The mean serum GGTP, LDH and SOD activities in patients with carcinoma breast were tremendously increased as compared to controls, and a steady increase was observed in their activities from stage I through stage IV as well as following distant metastasis. Serum GGTP, LDH and SOD might prove to be most sensitive biomarkers in carcinoma breast in early detection of the disease.
The parsec-scale central components of FR I radio galaxies

Abstract: A majority of a complete sample of 3CR FR I radio galaxies show unresolved optical nuclear sources on the scales of 0.1 arcsec. About half of the 3CR FR II radio galaxies observed with the HST also show Compact Central Cores (CCC). These CCCs have been interpreted as the optical counterparts of the non-thermal radio cores in these radio galaxies (Chiaberge, Capetti, & Celotti 1999). We show that the optical flux density of the CCCs in FR Is is correlated with the radio core prominence. This correlation supports the argument of Chiaberge et al. that the CCC radiation is of a non-thermal synchrotron origin, which is relativistically beamed along with the radio emission.

Abstract: A wireless ad-hoc network is a self-organized wireless network without fixed or backbone infrastructure. All nodes have routing capability and use peer-to-peer packet transmission or forward packets to other node using multi hop communication. Now days mobile ad-hoc networks are being used for different applications and traffics, so it require quality of service (QoS) support in routing protocol. In this paper, a modified QoS routing protocol using directional antenna has been proposed. High and normal priority can be assigned based on type of traffic. All the nodes in the path used by high priority flow are reserved as high priority flow for that flow and normal priority flow will avoid the paths used by high priority flows. If no disjoint paths are available, there may be two possibilities: Normal priority flows are blocked and other is, normal priority flows are allow using the coupled path with high priority flow. Blocking the normal priority flow, QoS routing protocol improves the performance of high priority flow. This concept may be use in emergency communication. Simulation results show that by assigning the priorities to flows, performance of high priority flows are improved and it will further improved by blocking the normal priority flow.
