Abstract: this paper presents the design and implementation process of a speed and position control for a direct current motor using double loop and four algorithms: classical pid, fuzzy pid, fuzzy, and a heuristic-based nonlinear pid, which is proposed by the authors. there is a special emphasis on the development of the power stage, the development of algorithms for measuring variables, the modeling stage and, finally, the real time control using matlab.

Abstract: in this paper we develop a back-propagation learning algorithm for feedforward neural networks trained online. three neurocontrollers are designed for three systems. those systems are an rc circuit, a dc motor (electronically emulated) and a sphere-tube system. the first implemented strategy is a standard pid controller, which is used in order to compare the performance of the neurocontrollers. the first neurocontroller leads the system in parallel with a pid; the next one is trained online to work alone, and the last one is a neural pid, which strives to make the controller adaptable to the dynamics of the plant trough changes on the pid gains. the control is carried out in real time by using simulink and a pci 6024e data acquisition card. the results for each system are also included.

Abstract: the performance of pid and fuzzy controllers is compared in a commercial device normally used in model airplanes: the s3004 futaba servo. the controller circuit, the power amplifier and the sensor are modified, and then the motor is observed. next, a root-locus method is used to tune a pid for angular position control. simulations and control are made in matlab's simulink, and also a data acquisition card (pci 6024e) is used. results are analyzed at the end of the document: although the pid controller works better, the fuzzy controller shows a similar performance.

Abstract: an enormous number of solutions have been proposed from the field of artificial intelligence in order to endow machines with the ability to make plans without human guidance. in this paper, we suggest emulated emotions to endow machines with the skills to make human-like decisions. the model is described using dynamical systems. emotional states are defined in terms of the difference between a reference model and the trajectories of the system. for example, calmness is defined as the ideal emotional state, where there is agreement between the state of the system and the reference model. finally, a basic architecture for this kind of emotional-based controller is provided together with some experimental results that illustrate its use.

Abstract: while linear control techniques for dynamic systems have been widely tested, systems are not linear in practice. this means that controllers must be re-tuned to make them useful in an experimental setup. this article presents the tuning and re-tuning process for two control strategies: a pid and an algorithm based on the choice of overall transfer function controlling a dc permanent magnet motor. the algorithms' performance is evaluated and some recommendations are made.
